Developing an application is not easy. So today I will teach you how to install Sublime Text on OpenSUSE 15.2 / 15.1. So you will have a powerful editor ready to use.

Sublime Text is well known in the world of web development. It is a powerful text editor that is widely used to develop applications in many languages. However, its main strength is in the web environment where it shows its main strength. On the other hand, it is a fairly lightweight, customizable, and extensible editor. It has everything you need to make coding a faster process like syntax highlighting, multiple selections, and a command palette.

Therefore, many users need to install it on their main Linux distribution. In this case, OpenSUSE 15.2 / 15.1 is one of the safest options to start developing any application.

Install Sublime Text on OpenSUSE 15.2 / 15.1

Sublime Text is an application that is cross-platform. That is to say, not only we will be able to install it in many Linux distributions but also in Windows or macOS. Then it is an application that is available to many people thus strengthening community support. In the same way, Sublime Text has its own repository for OpenSUSE to keep up to date.

So the first step is to open a terminal and add the GPG key for the repository.

:~$ sudo rpm -v --import https://download.sublimetext.com/sublimehq-rpm-pub.gpg

Then, once we have done the previous thing, it is necessary to choose the software channel that we deem to use. There is the Dev version where the latest version in development is hosted. It is new but can be unstable. On the other hand, the Stable channel provides only versions that are considered stable by the development team. It is the most sensible decision, so we will use this one.

:~$ sudo zypper addrepo -g -f https://download.sublimetext.com/rpm/stable/x86_64/sublime-text.repo
Adding repository 'Sublime Text - x86_64 - Stable' .......................................................................................................................................[done]
Repository 'Sublime Text - x86_64 - Stable' successfully added

URI : https://download.sublimetext.com/rpm/stable/x86_64
Enabled : Yes
GPG Check : Yes
Autorefresh : Yes
Priority : 99 (default priority)

Then you can install Sublime Text on OpenSUSE 15.2 / 15.1.

:~$ sudo zypper install sublime-text

Now, you can launch from the main menu.

1.- Install Sublime Text on OpenSUSE 15.2 / 15.1

So, enjoy it. Remember that Sublime Text has a brother who takes care of GIT. So, you can read our post about Sublime Merge.

Sublime Merge a nice GIT client.

And that is it.

Conclusion

If you develop for the web, it is very likely that you need Sublime Text. It’s a pretty good and fast text editor. Especially in computers not so good that you need to optimize resources.

Have you used it? what did you think of the post? let us know in the comments.

The Linux kernel is the engine of our operating system. It is mainly responsible for running the hardware we have and managing computer resources. Its development is quite active, so we often have new versions. Recently version 5.3 of the Linux Kernel was released. And as we will know, it comes with a lot of new features for our operating systems. So today we will show you how to install Linux Kernel 5.3 on Ubuntu 18.04.

The numbering of the Linux kernel 5

A few months ago Linus Torvald himself announced that there was going to be a change of numbering. Basically, because he didn’t like high numbers and because it was easier to continue the development.

So, what we expected as the Linux Kernel 4.21 was transformed into the Linux Kernel 5. As you can see is quite a leap, although the news is very important, are expected too much by the change of numbering.

What’s New in Linux Kernel 5.3?

Some of the novelties of this version are:

Multiple enhancements to the XFS file system. multi-threaded inode skipping option implemented.

On the other hand, EXT4 has also received a lot of care. Added support for gaps in directories.

Improved support for Intel Icelake Gen 11 graphics.

If you want to see the rest of the news, you can check this link.

And many bug fixes. It is an important version for the number of bugs corrected.

Install the Linux Kernel 5.3 on Ubuntu 18.04

So, if you want to install this kernel for drivers or bugs on your system, you must first download these three files.

The Linux image.

The Kernel modules

Finally, the kernel headers.

So, open a terminal and run these commands if you are using a 64-bit system.

Let us create a folder to save the files:

:~$ mkdir kernel5 && cd kernel5

1.- Create the folder

After that, you can start the download.

And that’s it.

Conclusion

The Linux kernel is an essential part of our system. Therefore, it is advisable to be careful when installing it. In addition, it is only recommended to install it if you have hardware failures or if you have a very recent one.

Knowing what is happening in a network is the most frequent work of computer experts in any company. In this way, you get reliable data on the operation and performance of it. This becomes important because it would make the organization’s work more effective and error-free. In this sense, Zabbix is a reference in this type of applications. With them, you will know what is happening in the network. Therefore, in this post, we will teach you how to install Zabbix on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8.

What is Zabbix?

Zabbix is quite a wonder. It is an open-source application that works under the client-server architecture. In other words, when installed on any server, it requires an agent to be installed on the client computers. In this way, the application will be able to monitor all the behavior of the nodes as well as the performance of the network.

On the other hand, the development of Zabbix is quite positive and constant, which makes it quite safe and functional. In addition to being quite mature in its development supports several database management systems including the popular MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL or proprietary alternatives such as Oracle and IBM DB2.

In this post, we will install step by step the Zabbix server on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8.

Install Zabbix on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8

As expected, Zabbix has precompiled binaries available for RHEL 8 and derivatives. These are available from the official repository, but there are some prerequisites we must meet. One of them is that we need a web server running on our computer. Besides that, a database management system like MariaDB.

Install LAMP on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8

In this case, we have a complete tutorial where you can install LAMP on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8. There, step by step, you will be able to get a web server running as well as the database manager MariaDB.

Read, How to install LAMP on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8?

Create the Zabbix user on MariaDB

Once the server is running correctly. It is necessary to create a new user and database for Zabbix. To do this, open the MySQL console and run:

:~# mysql -u root -p
> CREATE DATABASE zabbixdb;
> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON zabbixdb.* TO 'zabbixuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'zabbixpss';

Install Zabbix on CentOS 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8 (I)

Then we can install Zabbix without problems. We will achieve this by using the official Zabbix repository for RHEL 8.

So as a root user, run the following command to add the GPG key from the repository:

:~# rpm --import http://repo.zabbix.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-ZABBIX

Then add the repository as such:

:~# rpm -ivh https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/4.0/rhel/8/x86_64/zabbix-release-4.0-2.el8.noarch.rpm

Finally, you will see the dashboard. And that is it.

Install the Zabbix agent on the nodes

In order for Zabbix to monitor correctly, it is necessary to install the agents in each of the nodes. Probably, they use different operating systems, so the installation can vary in each of them.

First, you have to add the Zabbix repository for each system. In case you use Ubuntu 18.04:

:~$ wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/4.0/ubuntu/pool/main/z/zabbix-release/zabbix-release_4.0-2+bionic_all.deb
:~$ sudo dpkg -i zabbix-release_4.0-2+bionic_all.deb
:~$ sudo apt update

Then, install Zabbix with the following command:

:~$ sudo apt install zabbix-agent

If you use CentOS 8, add the repository with this command:

:~# rpm -ivh https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/4.0/rhel/7/x86_64/zabbix-release-4.0-2.el7.noarch.rpm

Then, install the agent with the following command:

:~# yum install zabbix zabbix-agent

Finally, if you use Debian 9:

:~$ wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/4.0/debian/pool/main/z/zabbix-release/zabbix-release_4.0-2+stretch_all.deb
:~# dpkg -i zabbix-release_4.0-2+stretch_all.deb
:~# apt update

And you install it with the command:

:~$ apt install zabbix-agent

Conclusion

Zabbix is an important application in any network service. Thanks to it it is possible to do complete monitoring on the operation of the same one. It also verifies the state of the nodes. In this post, you have learned to install it on the server-side.

So, this article will teach you how to install LAMP on Fedora 29 and Fedora 30.

Many web developers use Fedora for their work. It’s not uncommon because we’re talking about a very stable and carefully made Linux distribution. However, it is true that Fedora is not the first choice to install LAMP so many don’t know how to do it.

Install LAMP

A LAMP server as I said before is composed of Linux, a web server as Apache, a database manager in MariaDB and a programming language to interpret and make the application work, in this case, PHP. Together, they form an ideal combination to develop web applications and to run applications.

Let’s start.

Install LAMP on Fedora

1. Install Apache web server

First, you need to install apache web server. It is perhaps the most used web server in the world. It stands out for its ease of use, its great documentation and its compatibility with almost all Linux distributions. In addition, its installation is quite simple. Let’s get to it.

Open a Terminal and run:

:~# sudo dnf install httpd

1.- Install Apache web server

Once the installation is complete, you need to start the service and enable it to run at system startup.

Linux is an open system with many variants. Each one of them with its particularities, advantages, and disadvantages. However, not everyone can install some of them, that’s why today I’ll show you how to install Fedora 29.

Recently Fedora 29 came to light, loaded with some novelties that although not too many are important as Fedora Modularity.

With this in mind, many users plan to download it but do not always have the solid knowledge to do so. Or they just need a little help. That’s why this article will teach you how to install Fedora 29.

Preparing the installation

If you are not sure whether to install Fedora 29 on your main computer or just want to try it out, you can install it on a virtual machine. To do this you must have modern hardware that can withstand the load.

However, to install Fedora 29 in its main 64-bit Workstation version, you need at least 2Gb of Ram, a Dual Core processor that supports 64 bits and 20Gb of hard disk space. Come on, modern hardware can do it.

Let’s install Fedora 29

After downloading it from its official site, it prepares a pen drive with the system and starts booting. You will find this first screen:

1.- Fedora 29 first screen

In it, you must select the first option to start the Live session.

2.- Loading the system

Then, the installer will give you two options. There is an option to try Fedora from an uninstalled Live session. And the other one where you can start the installation. Choose the second one to continue.

3.- Two options: Try or install it.

The next step is to choose the language of the installation. This is up to you. However, I believe that although it is in English, the steps are clear.

4.- Language selection

As you continue, it will give you a summary of the installation. Where you will have to partition the disk and keyboard layout.

5.- Installation summary

Conclusion

As you can see, installing Fedora 29 is not such a complex matter. So I invite you to give this great version of the community distribution sponsored by Red Hat a try.

By the way, speaking of Red Hat, did you know it was acquired by IBM? We’ll tell you about it here.

One of the most relevant new features of Ubuntu 18.10 is its new GTK theme and icons. However, there are other themes to enrich even more the visual aspect of Ubuntu. For example, Nordic Theme.

At the moment there is a great love for dark themes, and an example of this is the implementation of Apple with Mac OS Mojave. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, they improve the productivity and health of our eyes. So, they are a success in this modern world.

In Linux, we have many dark and well-implemented themes like Nordic Theme.

Nordic Theme for Linux

Nordic is a Gtk3.20+ theme created using the awesome Nord color palette. This ensures that your components are subtly careful with design and color matching. Making the subject very delicate for our eyes, thus improving our computer performance.

1.- Nord colors

A great advantage of using this theme is that it is released under the GPL 3 license, i.e. it is open source and can be used and modified to our liking.

Install Nordic Theme on any Linux distribution

As I said before, it’s a GTK theme that requires at least version 3.20. In short, it is compatible with many Linux distributions such as Debian 9, Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 18.10, Linux Mint 19, Arch Linux or Manjaro.

First, download the theme using Git. Open a Terminal and run:

:~$ git clone https://github.com/EliverLara/Nordic.git

2.- Cloning the repository

When you finish downloading the theme, you will have a folder called Nordic in your current location.

Now you must move it to the ~/.themes folder. If the folder doesn’t exist, you have to create it.

:~$ mv Nordic/ ~/.themes/

3.- Moving the Nordic folder to themes folders

Flat-Remix is a pretty simple icon theme inspired by material design. It can be installed on all Linux distributions that use GNOME as a desktop environment. It is also released under the GPLv3 license, which guarantees that you can modify and reuse it.

In addition, the theme is available in several versions (Main, Dark, Light) as well as an icon theme and for GNOME Shell.

As can been noted, the last stable version of this complete theme is 1.32 which was released a few days ago. In this new version, some bugs have been fixed and some icons have been updated.

Install Flat-Remix Icon set on any Linux Distribution

If you want to install Flat-Remix in any Linux distribution, I have the good news that is quite simple.

In the first place, you have to install git to clone the Git repository of the project. Open a Terminal, and then, type:

:~$ sudo apt install git

3.- Installing git to clone the repositories

Now you can clone the first repository (icon set), to do it, run:

:~$ git clone https://github.com/daniruiz/flat-remix

4.- Cloning the repository

Second, clone the other repository (GTK theme).

:~$ git clone https://github.com/daniruiz/flat-remix-gtk

The only thing left to do is to create the local folder where the theme will be.

:~$ mkdir -p ~/.icons && mkdir -p ~/.themes

Then, copy the contents of the cloned folder into the new one.

:~$ cp -r flat-remix/Flat-Remix* ~/.icons/ && cp -r flat-remix-gtk/Flat-Remix-GTK* ~/.themes/

Organizations use special applications for business management. Today, in this tutorial I will show you how to install Odoo 12 on Debian 9.

Odoo is an open source integrated ERP system currently produced by the Belgian company Odoo S.A.

In the first place, what is a ERP? The ERP (Enterprise resource planning) systems are management information systems that integrate and manage many of the businesses associated with production operations and distribution aspects of a company engaged in the production of goods or services. In short, it is a administration system.

Some Odoo modules include inventory management, finance, administration, sales and more. In addition, you can activate the modules developed by community only necessaries for your organization ensuring the proper and efficient functioning of it.

Odoo is compatible with Linux and today i will install it on Debian. It’s easy.

0. Prerequisites

To install Odoo 12 on Debian 9 does not require high knowledge of Linux but a basic knowledge of terminal use. In addition to a user who can run commands as root user.

Under those circumstances, it is convenient to add that, Odoo requires PostgreSQL and Python 3.5.

Let’s start.

1. Upgrade the system

Before starting the installation of applications on our server, it is convenient to update all packages. This in order to have all the security patches and with them make the system more secure and stable. Run:

yu<?2.In this article, I will show you how to install MyWebSQL on CentOS 7. The tutorial is simple to do, but first I’ll tell you a little about this tool.

MySQL is an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). It is very popular among developers for being free, easy to use and very secure. In many cases, it is the entry point to other more robust applications such as Oracle Database or IBM DB2.

Mysql

At the same time, many people who start with MySQL don’t feel comfortable with the way they perform operations because everything is through CLI. With the aim of minimizing the difficulty to visualize data, create a database and perform more actions with MySQL using less time is that tools such as MyWebSQL emerge.

MyWebSQL is an open source, web-based, WYSIWYG MySQL client written in PHP. It utilizes modern day technologies and browsers to provide a fast, intuitive querying and editing interface to the MySQL databases.

It was created with the following points in mind.

Easy deployment and usage.

Fast querying and editing on MySQL databases.

Developer friendly to save time spent on queries and working with results.

Usable with all major browsers without any loss of functionality.

As you can see, it is a software designed to save time with MySQL. Let’s install MyWebSQL on CentOS 7.

0. Prerequisites

The installation is really simple, however, you must take into account the following:

MyWebSQL is also compatible with MariaDB which is a 100% MySQL compatible fork. It is the one I will use.

You have to install LAMP first. It is not difficult.

The commands must be executed as root user.

The packages
wget
and
unzip
, must be installed.

Let’s get to work.

1. Install Apache web server and PHP

The first element that you need is Apache web server. To do this, run:

:~$ su
:~# yum install httpd

2. Install MariaDB

Don’t be confused, MariaDB is a fork absolutely compatible with MySQL. In addition, it comes by default in the official CentOS 7 repositories. It currently has a great support and a very active community, so it is the best option.

To install MyWebSQL this step is vital.

:~# yum install mariadb-server
