Intel 9th Gen Processor – Price vs Performance

Intel, with their latest release of 9th gen processors, has made a pretty big impact on the hardware market. These processors are good enough than the previous generations and their price has also gone higher.

If you missed, feel free to check out the Intel 9th processor performance review. Today, we’ll have a look at the “price vs. performance” aspect of the best gaming processors.

In these comparisons, the price of Intel Core i7-7820X is used as the MSRP. The current price is too high for this one, nearly $300 higher! In the charts, the comparisons are performed using processor price only, not including the cooling cost and motherboard cost.

In the chart, it’s visible that the Core i7-9700K is a better choice than the i7-8700K in terms of value. However, comparing to the Ryzen 7 2700X, the value is still nothing.

If you’re concerned about the performance, the Core i9-9900K is the obvious winner. However, due to the fact that the price is way higher than the Ryzen 7 2700X, it’s still a worse value. If money isn’t any problem, then the Threadripper 2 2950X is way better than all of the other options.

HandBrake obviously supports the performance of Intel processors and in this case, Intel 9th gen processors are the bang for your buck.

AMD Ryzen series fall pretty short in this category.

For those who are content creators, the Ryzen 7 2700X is a perfect choice. It offers the best value and Intel processors are nowhere near to the competition here. A pretty disappointing result in Adobe Premiere.

The final thoughts

There are lots of gamers out there and the biggest claim of this launch was “the best gaming CPU”. Intel holds true to their words with the best performance on gaming. However, in the case of “price vs performance”, Intel processors fall pretty short, even without counting the costs of the motherboards and cooling solutions. For enjoying the most performance out of these processors, Z390 motherboards are the best available option. For cooling, you need a very powerful one to handle all those power usage and heat output.

In fact, the latest AMD processors offer very good performance for gaming as well. With the clear victory for content creators and multi-thread workloads, AMD processors offer the best value. With the saved-up money, you can get a better cooling solution and overclock allows you to extract the most performance out of them.

If you can afford Intel processors and money isn’t a concern, you’re good to go with Intel 9th gen processors. If your priority is to get the best out of your money, AMD processors are your best choice.
