Slack is an application to develop communications within an organization. Or even, for teams within one. In addition, it has several features for offering a powerful center for information exchange between many people related to the project.

In many organizations, Slack is a very useful and necessary tool for teamwork. So, in this post, you can learn how to install it in Ubuntu 20.04 using several methods. But all lead to the same thing that Slack can be used in this distribution.

So, let’s start.

Install Slack on Ubuntu 20.04

A big advantage of Ubuntu is that there are several ways to get to the same destination. This applies also to Slack because there are different ways to install it.

First method: using the DEB package

The best way to install Slack is by using the DEB package that the developers provide.

So, go to the download section for Linux and download the DEB package compatible with Ubuntu 20.04

Once the package is downloaded, we can install it by double-clicking on it or using the terminal.

Open a terminal from the main menu or press the keys CTRL + ALT + T and go to the folder where the package is.

In my case, I downloaded the package using Firefox, and therefore, it is in the Downloads folder.

cd Downloads

And it uses APT to perform the installation:

sudo apt install slack-desktop-4.9.1-amd64.deb

And you can run it from the main menu.

Second method: Installing Slack on Ubuntu 20.04 through the Ubuntu store

Slack is also available in Snap format. Therefore it is possible to install it from the Ubuntu application store.

It is as easy as opening it from the main menu. And from the search engine use the keyword Slack.

Then, in the first result, you will have Slack. Click on this first result.

And then you will see all the information about the package as the description, size, and origin. At first, you will see the Install button. Click on it, enter your password and it will start the installation process.

In the end, you will be able to run Slack from the main menu. This method is a little easier for beginners but it consumes a little more memory because the package weighs 140M and the DEB is a little less than 50M.

In any case, Slack is ready to be launched from the main menu.
