How To Install Microsoft Teams on Fedora / Ubuntu / Debian Linux

What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is an application released by the Microsoft to provide the facility of communication to Linux users with different distributions. Teams used for unified communication & collaboration through video conferencing, messaging & chats along-with files sharing & integration with other applications such as git, monitoring tools, CI/CD pipelines etc. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how we can install the Microsoft Teams and enjoy the amazing features of this application. So let’s move forward to start Installing Microsoft Teams on our Linux Operating System. Follow the below steps to install Teams on Your system smoothly.

Installing Microsoft Teams on Fedora:

To install Microsoft Teams on Fedora / CentOS systems simply download the rpm packages which are available at the latest release page.

Follow the link to download for your Fedora / CentOS or Run the command in Terminal.

Download Microsoft Teams

wget https://packages.microsoft.com/yumrepos/ms-teams/teams-1.2.00.32451-1.x86_64.rpm

After downloading this package install it with dnf command.

sudo dnf localinstall teams-1.2.00.32451-1.x86_64.rpm

Allow the process to continue by pressing Y key to finish the installation of Microsoft Teams on Fedora / CentOS

Install Microsoft Teams on Ubuntu / Debian Linux

To install Teams on Ubuntu / Debian we use the .deb package so download it from the release page.

wget https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/ms-teams/pool/main/t/teams/teams_1.2.00.32451_amd64.deb

After downloading run the dpkg command to install Teams

sudo dpkg -i teams_1.2.00.32451_amd64.deb

Note: If you face any dependency problem run the following command

sudo apt -y -f install

Launch & Use Microsoft Teams on Linux

After finishing up installation, launch the application from the command line interface or using the Desktop Environment. You’ll see a welcome screen as shown in image below.

Provide your Microsoft account email to continue to Microsoft Teams.

It will redirect to your browser to create your Microsoft Teams account setup. You’ll be asked to signup for your Teams account. So click on it to signup.

Provide details like name, company, region etc.

After it login to your account with the Microsoft Account Email.

Click Next.

Now you will be redirected to your Teams dashboard to perform actions provided by Teams.

You can now add people, communicate with those you may know or with enterprises for personal and business communication.
