Hello friends. It seems that the discord with the Chromium package has come to an end and the Linux Mint team has already packed it. Now, let’s see how to install Chromium web browser on Ubuntu 20.04 / Linux Mint 20.x
Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all users to experience the web. In case you didn’t know, Chromium is the basis of the well-known Google Chrome and they share many features. They only differ in the support of proprietary multimedia files and small things more.
The problem came when Ubuntu 20.04 included Chromium in Snap fromat. This forced users to use Snap if they wanted Chromium.
Now, this has changed because the Linux Mint team has packaged Chromium in DEB form so it is now easier to do.
Let’s get started.
Install Chromium web browser on Linux Mint 20
The Chromium DEB package has been included in the different versions of the Linux Mint repositories.
Therefore, the installation can be done using Synaptic or from the terminal by executing the following command:
sudo apt install chromium
And it will automatically start the download and installation process.

In the case of Ubuntu, we have the Ubuntu native option which is to use the snap package. If you prefer, this method is the most recommended in Ubuntu.
So, open a terminal, and run:
sudo snap install chromium
and so the download and installation process will begin.
Then, run it from the main menu.

We will also be able to take advantage of the DEB packages that the Linux Mint team has made available to us.
This method, although secure, does not provide automatic updates and therefore these packages must be downloaded periodically.
So, open a terminal and download the necessary packages:
Now, proceed to install them:
sudo apt install ./*.deb
Then, run Chromium from the main menu.
Chromium is a great alternative to Google Chrome although it is true that on Linux, the favorite of many is Firefox.
The good thing is that we continue with many different alternatives, previously, Edge has come to Linux and now we have new alternatives for the installation of Chromium thanks to Linux Mint.
