Hello! Oracle’s HTTP server is based on the proven Apache open-source HTTP server technology. It also provides a framework for hosting dynamic and static web pages. Additionally, it allows you to manage Oracle Fusion Middleware applications for users. Let’s see how to install the Oracle HTTP server in Windows 10/Server 2019.

Prerequisite

To be able to install and configure this server, it is necessary to have Java JDK installed. For a complete guide to the installation, check here!

Downloading and installing Oracle’s HTTP server

The first thing you have to do is download the installer from this link. Please note that you have to open an Oracle account in order to download. Don’t worry, it’s free. Once the installer has been downloaded, double-click it to start the process. Additionally, a Java console will be displayed verifying the requirements for installation.

If the Java console checks that everything is in order, then the universal installer will be deployed. On the welcome screen, press Next to continue.

Press Next to continue

Then, in the Auto Update window, keep the default options and press Next.

Skip the auto-updates

Then assign a directory for the installation. It is highly recommended placing it at the root of the system. For example, in my case I locate the installation in unit C.

Please assign a directory or create a new one to dump the installation.

At this point, it is necessary to set the type of server installation. That is, you can set up a standalone server managed independently of the WebLogic server. Or set up a Collocated server managed through the WebLogic server. Well, in this case, we’ll use the Standalone server option.

Install the Standalone Server

Then select the JDK home directory.

Select the JDK Home directory.

Then the installer will verify the prerequisites. If some appear with a yellow triangle, they can be corrected after installation.

Checking the prerequisites.

Now the wizard shows a summary of the installation. Please press Install to begin the process.

Now the wizard shows a summary of the installation

Then the wizard starts the process of installing the server.

Finally, the installation has been successfully completed. Please end the wizard.

Successful installation of oracle’s HTTP server

Starting the Configuration Wizard

Now it’s time to start the configuration wizard to set up the domain. This action will be done according to the type of server that has been installed. With this in mind, browse to the next path:

ORACLE_HOME\oracle_common\common\bin

Where ORACLE_HOME is your 12c (12.2.1.3.0) Oracle home. In my case, the address is the following.

C:\web\oracle_common\common\bin

Once there, open a Command Prompt and execute the following command:

Once the installation is completed, we are ready to start services. In the first place, it is imperative to start the node. With this in mind, navigate to the next address.

ORACLE_HOME\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin

Where ORACLE_HOME is your 12c (12.2.1.3.0) Oracle home. In my case, the address is the following.

C:\web\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin

Then open a Command Prompt and execute the following command:

startNodeManager.cmd

It is highly recommended configuring the Node Manager as a Windows service. To find out how to do this, check out our post on WebLogic.

Now it’s time to start the server. With this in mind, from the same directory, execute the following command:

startComponent.cmd system_component_name

Where
system_component_name
is the Oracle HTTP Server system component name you provided while configuring the domain. In my case:

Hi, how are you? Today we will see how to install Weblogic on Microsoft’s operating systems. Indeed, Oracle Weblogic Server is a Java EE application server developed by Oracle. In addition, this product is part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware portfolio. It also supports, Oracle, DB2, MSSQL, MySQL and other compatible databases. It’s a bit of a long process, but with our instructions you’ll get it right. Join us to see how to install Weblogic on Windows 10/Server 2019.

Prerequisite

In order to run this server successfully, it is necessary to have JDK installed and configured. In order to mount this server successfully, it is necessary to have JDK installed and configured. To know how to do it, look here.

How to download Weblogic

This software is currently in its 14c version. In order to download it, you must go to this link. Please note that you must create a free account, as explained in the previous post. The download weighs just under 900 megs. In addition, it is a ZIP file containing a jar file. This type of file is multi-platform so it can be installed on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

How to install Weblogic 14c on Windows

As mentioned, it is necessary to use JDK in order to install the server. Therefore, we will use a Command Prompt as administrator. With this intention, press the Win+E combination and in the search box, type CMD and launch it.

Run a CMD as an administrator.

Then use the CD command until you reach the location of the previously unzipped jar file. Once there, please execute the following command:

java -jar fmw_14.1.1.0.0_wls.jar

Hello friends, the goal of this tutorial is for you to learn how to install Java on FreeBSD 12 so you can enjoy it and use it for different purposes.

We already know that Java is one of the most used programming languages in the world. Besides this, many applications need Java to run and therefore many people need it.

On the other hand, many people use FreeBSD 12 as an operating system for a server. Many dedicated server applications need Java to run as well as to serve applications.

So, let us do it.

Install Java on FreeBSD 12

For this tutorial you need to run sudo. So this program has to be enabled and working properly. For that, read our tutorial about it:

How to enable sudo on FreeBSD 12?

Once you have done it, you can continue with the post.

Next is bscar Java in the official FreeBSD 12 repositories.

:~$ sudo pkg search openjd
bootstrap-openjdk11-11.0.5.10.1 Java Development Kit 11
bootstrap-openjdk6-r450701 Java Development Kit 6
bootstrap-openjdk8-r450802 Java Development Kit 8
openjdk-7.161.01,1 Java Development Kit 7
openjdk-jre-7.161.01,1 Java Runtime Environment 7
openjdk11-11.0.5+10.1 Java Development Kit 11
openjdk12-12.0.2+10.3_1 Java Development Kit 12
openjdk13-13.0.1+9.1 Java Development Kit 13
openjdk8-8.232.09.1_1 Java Development Kit 8
openjdk8-jre-8.232.09.1_1 Java Runtime Environment 8
rxtx-openjdk8-2.2p2_4 Native interface to serial ports in Java

In the image we can see that there are several versions of Java available, but only version 8 contains both JDK and JRE. Therefore, this is the version that we will install.

:~$ sudo pkg install openjdk8
Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue...
FreeBSD repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
The following 27 package(s) will be affected (of 0 checked):
New packages to be INSTALLED:
openjdk8: 8.232.09.1_1
libXtst: 1.2.3_2
libXi: 1.7.10,1
libXfixes: 5.0.3_2
libX11: 1.6.9,1
libxcb: 1.13.1
libXdmcp: 1.1.3
xorgproto: 2019.2
libXau: 1.0.9
libxml2: 2.9.10
libpthread-stubs: 0.4
libXext: 1.3.4,1
libXrender: 0.9.10_2
libXt: 1.2.0,1
libSM: 1.2.3,1
libICE: 1.0.10,1
fontconfig: 2.12.6,1
expat: 2.2.8
freetype2: 2.10.1
dejavu: 2.37_1
mkfontscale: 1.2.1
libfontenc: 1.1.4
javavmwrapper: 2.7.4
java-zoneinfo: 2019.b
giflib: 5.2.1
libinotify: 20180201_1
alsa-lib: 1.1.2_2
Number of packages to be installed: 27
The process will require 234 MiB more space.
89 MiB to be downloaded.
Proceed with this action?
Once Java is installed a few more things need to be done to get it ready for work. Because this OpenJDK implementation requires fdescfs(5) mounted on /dev/fd and
procfs(5) mounted on /proc.

So, to do it, run these commands:

:~$ sudo mount -t fdescfs fdesc /dev/fd
:~$ sudo mount -t procfs proc /proc

This solves the problem temporarily, if we want to avoid running these commands every time we start the system, we have to edit the file /etc/fstab and add the following:

:~$ sudo nano /etc/fstab
fdesc	/dev/fd		fdescfs		rw	0	0
proc	/proc		procfs		rw	0	0

3.- Configuring FreeBSD 12 to work with Java

So, save the changes and close the file.

Now, you can check the Java version.

:~$ java -version

4.- Java version

So, Java is ready for the action.

Conclusion

Java is a fairly popular platform and this makes it necessary for many FreeBSD 12 developers and users to run or serve applications of this type. Today you have learned how to install it without problems.

Configuring Nginx to work with PHP is quite simple. However, many applications also require us to use a server block or as Apache calls it a Virtualhost. This means that we can set specific rules for each of our applications, as well as define different folders dedicated to each of them. It is quite simple and useful. So, in this post, you will learn to establish an Nginx server block on CentOS 8, RHEL 8 and Oracle Linux 8.

So, let us start.

1. Install Nginx

Of course, the first step is to install Nginx. As we well know, it comes in the official repositories so there is a bigger problem in doing so.

Open a terminal and run:

:~$ su
:~# dnf install nginx

1.- Install Nginx on Centos 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux 8

When the installation is finished, the service must be started. It is also recommended to make it start together with the system.

:~# systemctl start nginx
:~# systemctl enable nginx

In order for Nginx to run correctly, it is necessary to open the ports in the Firewall. To do this, run the following:

:~# firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=http
success
:~# firewall-cmd --reload
success

Now, open your web browser and go to your server. http://server-ip.

2.- Nginx default page on Oracle Linux 8

So, Nginx is working.

2) Install and configure PHP

The second step is to install PHP which is also in the official repositories.

:~# dnf install php php-fpm php-mysqlnd php-cli

3.- Install PHP on CentOS 8, RHEL 8, Oracle Linux 8

Now you need to configure PHP to work with Nginx. First, edit PHP file.

:~# nano /etc/php.ini

And change the following value:

cgi.fix_pathinfo=0

Next, edit the
/etc/php-fpm.d/www.conf
file.

And uncomment the following values:

pm.min_spare_servers = 5
pm.max_spare_servers = 35

And change the listen values.

listen = 127.0.0.1:9000

Next, save the changes and close the file.

Now, start and enable the
PHP-fpm
service.

:~# systemctl start php-fpm
:~# systemctl enable php-fpm

3) Create a new Nginx Server Block

Now we will create the new server block. For this also create a folder in
/usr/share/nginx/html/
i will name it
example
.

Inside it, I will make a file called
index.php
that will only contain a phpinfo method.

:~# mkdir -p /usr/share/nginx/html/example
:~# nano /usr/share/nginx/html/example/index.php

And add the following:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

Save the changes and close the file.

Now it is necessary to create the configuration file of the new Server Block. Create the file in
/etc/nginx/conf.d/
and call it
example.conf
.

:~# nano /etc/nginx/conf.d/example.local.conf

And add the following:

server {
   server_name example.local;
   root /usr/share/nginx/html/example;

   location / {
       index index.html index.htm index.php;
   }

   location ~ \.php$ {
      include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params;
      fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000;
      fastcgi_index index.php;
      fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;

The entire ecosystem of the Red Hat Linux Enterprise family is used extensively on servers. Whether enterprise, small, or medium, RHEL-based distributions copy that segment along with Debian and Ubuntu. And in server management, it is common and frequent to use configurations over IP addresses. In this case, you will learn to establish a static IP address on CentOS 8, RHEL 8 and Oracle Linux 8.

How to set a static IP address on Centos 8 / RHEL 8 / Oracle Linux

Linux is a fairly flexible system and this results in several ways of doing the same process. In this case, it is the same, we will be able to establish a static IP address in several ways. To avoid unnecessarily lengthening the post, I will only show one single way.

It is advisable to read about static and dynamic IP addresses. This is because it is not always good to have them, although in an internal network it helps a lot to manage the services of that server. Even, at cluster level and related things, it is necessary to assign a specific address to a node.

So, let us start.

Using the Network scripts to set a static IP address

I think this is the most basic way to set a static IP address in CentOS 8, RHEL 8 and Oracle Linux 8. Because this way we will not have to install or use third-party tools to do the configuration. On the other hand, it is a bit rough for newbies.

First of all, you have to know what the network interfaces you have active are called. Let us suppose that we are going to define a static IP address to the ethernet wired network.

So, open a terminal and run the following:

:~$ ip addr show

1.- The network interface on CentOS 8 RHEL 8 Oracle Linux 8

In the screen output of the command, you will notice that they open several interfaces. In my case, there are only two. The local and another one called
enp0s3
. That is the one we want to change.

Now open the configuration file of that network interface. I will use
nano
for it, if you do not have it installed you can do it.

:~$ su
:~# nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-[network-interface]

The content of the file is quite explicit. However, to configure the static IP, it is enough to modify these elements:

Posted on

TYPE="Ethernet"
BOOTPROTO="none"
NAME="eth0"
IPADDR=192.168.250.105
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
BROADCAST=192.168.255.255
DEVICE="eth0"
ONBOOT="yes"

Also, if you want to use DNS, add these two options.

DNS1=[DNS_SERVER]
DNS2=[DNS_SERVER]

Next, save the changes and close the file.

2.- Set a static IP address on centos 8, RHEL 8 and Oracle Linux 8

It is now necessary to reload the networks profile so that the system knows that there have been changes.

:~# nmcli connection reload

Finally, restart the connection.

:~# nmcli con down [network_interface]
:~# nmcli con up [network_interface]

Now, check the new IP address with this command:

:~# ip addr show

3.- Check the changes

So, everything is OK.

Conclusion

In this post, you have learned to set a static IP address in CentOS 8, RHEL 8 and Oracle Linux 8. This way you will be able to manage some servers a little better and it is a very used network function. On the other hand, if you use any of these distributions as a personal system it is probably not useful.

Java is one of the most popular programming languages out there. This is because it is the basis of many vital technologies in the professional field such as Jenkins or Tomcat. In this context, it is always convenient to have it in our operating systems. Therefore, in this post, we will teach you how to install Java on RHEL 8, CentOS 8 and Oracle Linux 8.

OpenJDK vs Oracle Java

Java is open source but its property belongs to Oracle. So, the community, taking advantage that Java is open source, has made a free oracle implementation called OpenJDK. Both do their job but there is more professional support if you use the Oracle version.

So today I will show you how to install both versions of Java on RHEL, CentOS and Oracle Linux 8.

1) Install Java (OpenJDK) on RHEL, CentOS and Oracle Linux 8

In the official distribution repositories, there are two versions of OpenJDK based on Java 8 and Java 11. Choose the one that best suits your needs or simply install both.

For OpenJDK Java 8:

:~$ su
:~# dnf install java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel

But, if you want to install version 11.

:~# dnf install java-11-openjdk-devel

And that is it.

2) Install Oracle Java on RHEL, CentOS and Oracle Linux 8

Downloading the Oracle version on a server is a bit more complicated because for version 11 which is the last LTS, Log in is required. Then, you have to download it on another computer and upload it via FTP to the server.

Once you have done this, install it with the following command:

:~# dnf install [file_path]

On the same Oracle download site, you will be able to choose several versions of Java. However, keep in mind that 11 is the last LTS and is the safest.

3) Set the default Java version

Sometimes it’s a good idea to have several versions of Java installed. This is because there are many programs that although they are created with Java, they know how to make better use of one version than the other.

Then, you have to tell the system which is the default version that the operating system will take. Of course, you can change versions without any problem.

To do this, in the terminal run the following:

:~# alternatives --config java

And write the number corresponding to the Java version you want to leave by default.

1.- Java on RHEL CentOS and Oracle Linux 8

Next, check the version Java.

:~# java --version
openjdk 11.0.2 2019-01-15 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.2+7-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.2+7-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)

And that is it. Enjoy it.

Conclusion

Installing Java on a current operating system is quite easy and necessary. Especially if it is an application server that must be able to run multiple different applications. Today in this post, we have installed Java on RHEL CentOS and Oracle Linux 8.

OpenJDK is an open source community version of Java. It is widely used because it is available by default on Ubuntu and many Linux distributions. However, you cannot use it to develop commercial applications. If you are a Java developer or you are a beginner, then, this is for you, because I will teach you how to install Oracle Java in Ubuntu and Debian.

First, let’s talk a little Java. Java is an Object Oriented programming language owned by Oracle. It is a compiled language, with its own rules and widely spread at educational and professional levels.

It is composed of three fundamental parts: JDK, JRE, and JVM. JDK is the Java development kit which contains the compiler and libraries needed to start creating applications with Java. The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is the engine for running these applications. Last, the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) functions as an intermediate layer between the JRE and the operating system where Java applications run.

Java and Linux

Java is compatible with Linux, this means that it is possible to run, and build applications from your favorite distribution. The problem is that the version in the official repositories is based on OpenJDK. In short, this means that we will not be able to use it to create commercial applications, besides it is a community version with the advantages and disadvantages that it can present.

That’s why if you want to develop applications for third parties without having licensing problems, you should install Oracle Java.

Install Oracle Java thanks to a PPA

As I said before, installing Oracle Java is necessary if you are a developer. Fortunately, it is possible to do it in a quite simple way thanks to the Java Uprising PPA.

This repository automates the process of downloading, installing and configuring Oracle Java as a .deb package. Obviously, it downloads it from the Oracle website, configures it and allows us to set a default version.

For Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10

First, you need to update the system.

:~$ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Once the installation is complete, the next step will be to add the java uprising repository.

:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linuxuprising/java

It’ll take a while, according to your internet connection.

Set Oracle Java 12 as default

This PPA brings with it a distributed tool in the form of a very useful package to set Oracle Java 12 as the default Java version of the system.

If you use Ubuntu the package
oracle-java12-set-default
has been installed as a recommended package in the installation of
oracle-java12-installer
package and it is not necessary to do anything else except verifying the installation.

:~$ java --version

On the other hand, if you want to install Java 12 but not the default one. So, you have to remove the
oracle-java12-set-default
package.

:~$ sudo apt remove oracle-java12-set-default

That’s it.

Conclusion

It is quite simple to install the proprietary version of Java, on Ubuntu and Debian, but if you are interested in learning about this programming language then you must do so.

A few days ago Oracle announced that a new version of Java was available. We are talking about version 12 of one of the most important technologies in the world. And that is why Oracle has decided to accelerate the pace of development of Java to bring it closer to other developments. So, Java 12 is released, let us talk about it.

The main feature of this new version is that it is not LTS, i.e. the support and maintenance will be shorter than version 11. However, it is still a launch full of new features for developers. First, this version will receive two updates as part of the Critical Update Patch. These patches are intended to solve serious security problems, as well as provide better language support.

But, there are many features more.

What’s New in Java 12?

As I said at the beginning, this is a non-LTS version, so it is probably not as flashy as the previous one. However, there are novelties that are worth mentioning. Some of them are:

Support for Unicode 11. Bringing compatibility with more than 600 new characters and 60 new emoticons. It seems a minor novelty, but at present, we know that this is very important for many applications.

Support for Compact Number Formatting. It is now possible to use this feature to express numbers in a more understandable way.

The garbage collector is much more efficient thanks to the inclusion of new algorithms that make it runtime deputation.

New Java Flight Recorder (JFR) Security Events. 4 new events have been added to this security library. However, these events are disabled by default.

The Switch conditional structure will be simplified. It is a few words, it can be converted into statement or expressions. It is a long-term bet for the use of pattern matching.

Microbenchmark suite. In order for developers to be able to run an existing Microbenchmark, the Java source code incorporates a Microbenchmark of its own.

And many more that you can consult in the release notes.

Do I really need to update?

It depends on whether you really need the latest Java features. In general, when they are not LTS versions the novelties are always enough and when they are LTS they focus on stability. On the other hand, if your application requires new Unicode characters, it is also possible that you need it, otherwise not.

Besides this, it is good to note that Java has a commercial license imposed by Oracle but that thanks to the OpenJDK project you can keep the GPL license. So the latter is ideal for projects related to education or personal.

Now, did you know about this news? Java programs? Let us know in the comments.

If you’re an advanced Linux user who virtualizes other operating systems in your favorite distribution, I’ve got good news for you. In short, Oracle recently announced that VirtualBox 6.0 is available for download.

VirtualBox is a free Oracle application that allows you to virtualize various operating systems in our Linux distribution. Although it is also available for Windows, its potential is discovered in Linux. In addition, it supports many versions of Windows including the popular Windows XP.

So, as it is a larger version, it is full of new features, highlighting that it incorporates the support for the 4.20 kernel. So, this new version will have a long way to go. Also, many people prefer not to update the kernels so aggressively.

Equally important is that VirtualBox 6.0 supports VMSVGA in the Linux and X11 Additions. As a result, you will notice a significant improvement in the execution of graphical effects on the systems.

On the other, hand Mac users also get some affection and that is that it incorporates the initial support for Guest Additions. Without a doubt, this is great news for Apple system users.

Another important new feature is that the user interface has been changed to make it easier to use. VirtualBox 6.0 also incorporates a new file manager enabling the user to control the guest file system and copy files between host and guest.

VirtualBox 6.0: others features

Of course, as it is a major update, there are many changes, some of them I have already mentioned, but there are others. Here are some:

Implemented support for exporting a virtual machine to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

User interface: greatly improved HiDPI and scaling support, including better detection and per-machine configuration.

Major rework of user interface with a simpler and more powerful application and virtual machine set-up.

Added support for surround speaker setups (as used by Windows 10 Build 1809).

In addition to many other novelties that are not considered “major”. These are only bug fixes and other details. You can read all the changes here.

So, you can download VirtualBox 6.0 for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Just go to this site and follow the instructions.

Conclusion

As a conclusion,

I can say that VirtualBox 6.0 is good news for those who like to virtualize. For example, we have used it many times for our articles so we are partying.

On the other hand, it is a major version with many new features, if you want stability, I recommend you wait for the maintenance versions.

Please share this article with your friends.

Oracle is one of the leading database service providers of the world. It provides lots of suitable functions and facilities for the enterprise level and the advanced mechanism ensures security, better performance, lower costs etc. Oracle released their latest database solution – Oracle 18c. It brings up a lot of benefits and useful features for the industry.

First of all, the name sounds a bit odd, right? The previous Oracle release was Oracle Database 12c Release 2. In the new release, Oracle simply changed the name so that it reflects the year of its release. A new caveat – Oracle 18c is the first product of Oracle series that follows the yearly pattern. From now on, Oracle will release their new products every year, followed by quarterly updates.

Why this strategy? This yearly release model will simplify the patching process and diagnose the patch issues more easily. Moreover, those small changes are less likely to create any problem, compared to the issues that come with major releases.

Features of Oracle 18c

Oracle 18c is the next release of Oracle 12c Release 2. It consists all the major features from the previous release. In addition, it has integrated many incremental enhancements that target to improve upon the release. The release itself concentrated on 3 key areas.

Features of Oracle 12c Release 2

Multitenant – Oracle’s strategic container architecture that allows a pluggable database (PDB) to be connected and disconnected from the main database and move them to other containers. Thus, it’s easier to backup, manage and patch numerous databases as one.

Database In-Memory – This method allows blazingly fast analytics against their operational databases instead of being forced to use new hardware or compromise with their data processing method.

Database Sharding – It’s a process in which a large database is partitioned into smaller, easily manageable and faster parts, called “data shards”. This allows better runtime performance and easier, simpler lifecycle management.

Oracle 12c Release 2 also included tons of other improvements like syntax improvements, Index Usage Statistics, improved JSON support, real-time materialized views etc. With the new release of Oracle 18c, there are no major/big changes in the infrastructure and others. However, the incremental improvements will make things even better. The newer release focuses on the 6 key areas.

New features of Oracle 18c

Performance – Memory optimization fetches (faster lookups), Oracle In-Memory (multi-thread, parallel scan)

High Availability – Sharded RAC, user-defined sharding, zero-impact GI patching

Multitenant – Clone from Standby (from ADG standby), refreshable PDB switchover, snapshot carousel (periodic snapshot clones).

Security – Active Directory integration, per PDB key support, schema-only accounts

Data Warehousing – Improved machine learning, On-Line Partition merge, polymorphic table functions

Development – Updated tools (SQLDeveloper, APEX, SQLCI), private temporary tables, improved JSON support

In addition to these improvements, the system also introduces a new Connection Manager mode. Connection Manager (CMAN) can funnel tons of data into one single Oracle database.

Oracle holds all the new features released within Oracle 18c. You can check out the in-depth information here.
