Code editors are one of the most popular tools in the programming industry. They greatly simplify the comparison with text editors and integrated development environments (IDE). They also stand out from the former because of syntax highlighting. Also for the autocompletion (although not always) and for allowing a simple management of the projects. On the other hand, what stands out against the latter is the lack to automate or perform many tasks and features. For example, automated refactoring, visual programming and integration with databases. Also for the debugging integrated in the application, although at the time of the truth each product supports the features that suit it.

Code and text editors VS IDE

The difference with FDIs is diluted in many cases. Especially if we take into account that code editors, in many cases, support add-ons that allow extending the possibilities offered. It is then possible to provide a code editor with features that are more typical of an IDE. Another aspect to take into account is that, in general, code editors consume fewer resources than IDEs. Although this depends on the focus of each tool.

We do not intend to create a debate about whether code editors are better than integrated development environments and vice versa. In fact, each tool has a different focus and purpose. Depending on the technology being worked with and the situation, one may find it more convenient to use one over the other. However, the expansion of frameworks over the course of recent times has meant that code editors have gained prominence over IDEs. Especially because these frameworks are capable of generating code that is then edited.

Code editors have become very popular. On the other hand, IDEs do not seem to be at their best. This does not detract from the fact that the Czech company JetBrains has emerged as the queen of IDEs with some very good products. In the mobile application development sector, the use of integrated development environments is still very common. Indeed, Android Studio, which is also based on JetBrains technology, is the tool that Google officially provides for this purpose.

Rise, fall and… comeback

Code editors had their heyday in the second decade of the 21st century. For the last few years, we have been experiencing a concentration in this segment. For example, there are interesting proposals such as Atom and Brackets that were abandoned by their original developers. The former is officially defunct. On the other hand, the latter continues its development as a community project.

Despite the concentration experienced in recent years, we will mention six well-known exponents. They are certainly not all strictly code editors. This is because, in some cases, the difference with text editors is narrow.

Visual Studio Code

Let’s start with the example best known to everyone today. Visual Studio Code is the code editor built by Microsoft and based on Electron. Note that it should not be confused with the Visual Studio IDE, which is a different product. Certainly, the latter has earned it many detractors because it is basically a webapp. However, its good design and the large number of add-ons available have made it the choice of many programmers.

Visual Studio Code, often shortened to VS Code, includes support for debugging, syntax highlighting and intelligent code completion. In addition to an integrated command line console, code snippets and includes support for Git.

It appeared in 2015 as a cross-platform application for Windows, Linux, and macOS. At that time it was proprietary and in terms of features it left much to be desired. However, Microsoft has invested heavily in its improvement and released it as open source under the MIT license. This is similar to the model Google used when creating Chrome from Chromium. Therefore, those responsible for Windows have kept a few cards up their sleeves. Despite this, the VS Code forks from the released source code offer high compatibility with the available extensions.

This code editor, despite its origin, supports numerous programming languages. Some of them are C, C#, C++, Fortran, Go, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Python and Rust. It also incorporates IntelliSense for JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON, CSS, and HTML. It also has debugging support for Node.js. The official store offers many extensions that expand the software’s possibilities almost infinitely.

Sublime Text

Sublime Text is a veteran in the industry. At present, it can be considered as Visual Studio Code’s biggest rival, at least among the less geeky public. We will certainly see some very powerful options later on. However, they may require learning to master.

If you compare VS Code and Sublime Text at first glance, you might get the impression that they are similar. However, the latter has the advantage of being written primarily with C++. This on paper allows it to perform better in demanding contexts, on less resource-hungry computers, and to take up less computer resources. On the other hand, it is a proprietary and paid application. Although it offers support for Windows, Linux and macOS.

Among its features are Goto Anything. This provides fast navigation through the files, symbols, and lines of a project. It also includes a Python API. Additionally, project-specific preferences and extensive customization possibilities. For this purpose, it uses JSON. Finally, it is compatible with many programming languages.

Sublime Text supports:

Syntax highlighting

code snippets

auto-completion

macros

autosave

custom keystroke

mapping

macros

last action

replay.

Notepad++

Notepad++ takes its name from Notepad. This is how the well-known Windows Notepad is called in English. This already hints that it is a more basic application than the previous ones. But people should not be confused. In reality, this is not only a tool to write things down. We are talking about one that has enormous possibilities for programmers.

Regarding its distribution, the situation of Notepad++ is the reverse of that of Sublime Text. Indeed, it only officially supports Windows. However, it is free software as its source code is released under the GPLv3 license and is completely free of charge. During its trajectory, it has garnered quite a lot of praise. Therefore, depending on the user’s profile and needs, it may be the ideal code editor.

Notepad++ supports syntax highlighting, code folding, macros, autosave, simultaneous editing, screen splitting. It also has limited auto-completion for programming, markup, declarative and scripting languages. It also has an outstanding number of plug-ins available. Furthermore, it also supports several character encodings and dozens of languages, including the most popular ones. In fact, it arranges so many languages alphabetically.”1

GNU Emacs

It was Richard Stallman himself, the father of software, who wrote the first Emacs in 1976. Years later, in 1984, development of GNU Emacs began to provide an alternative to Gosling Emacs. This was a proprietary implementation of the same editor that is now discontinued. GNU Emacs was originally based on Gosling Emacs. However, the replacement of the Mocklips interpreter with a true Lips interpreter required rewriting almost all the code.

It goes without saying that, because it is part of the GNU project, GNU Emacs is free software under the GPLv3 license. Although it is focused on Linux and BSD, it is also possible to install it on Windows and macOS, so it offers multiplatform support.

GNU Emacs is more of a text editor than a code editor. However, it is so powerful that it is more than enough to perform programming tasks. In fact, it is not uncommon for programmers to use it. Its main features are that it can be modified deeply and extended almost without limits.

You also have at your disposal numerous extensions that allow you to add additional supports. We can also transform the text editor into a web browser, for example. Discovering the full power of GNU Emacs is something that can take time and requires a willingness to learn.

Vim

Vim, which is short for Vi Improved. As its name suggests, it is an improved version of the original Vi. This is a text editor mainly aimed at Unix and Unix-like systems. However, there is also a version for Windows. It is released under its own license with clauses related to charity and is compatible with the GPL.

Although it is mainly oriented to command line interfaces, Vim has at its disposal a graphical mode called gVim. However, the real cracks with this editor use it from the command line. After all, it is its natural environment.

Vim includes many improvements over the original Vi. Some of them are file compare and merge, a complete integrated help system. In addition to extended regular expressions, mouse interaction. Finally, also some limited functions reminiscent of a code editor, plus many other features.

One of its most outstanding features is that it supports extensions. The user can resort to NERDTree to obtain a file explorer. This way, you can manage a folder as if it were a project. NERDTree is just one of the extensions that Vim has at its disposal, and discovering everything there is for this editor is up to the user.

And as this free software opens the door to forks galore, there is one called Neovim. This one is released under the Apache 2 license. It also tries to improve on aspects such as extensibility and maintainability. It also includes Language Server Protocol (LSP) support, asynchronous I/O and Lua scripting via luaJIT.

Geany

We close the list with Geany, a simple code editor with graphical interface. It is free software under the GPLv2 license. It is built with C and C++ and with support for Windows, Linux, macOS, and BSD. The project defines itself as the lightweight IDE. In truth, despite its lightness and apparent simplicity, it is an application that treasures much more than it appears to have a handful of features, rather typical of an IDE.

Among its default features, the user will find auto-completion, bookmarks, multiple document interface. Also, simple project management, syntax highlighting and code folding. It is extensible through plug-ins and has an integrated terminal emulator. This can come in handy when working with frameworks such as Ruby on Rails.

The add-on manager provides many additional features. From this list we can highlight a debugger, a spell checker, a Git change bar. In addition to support for macros and a file explorer to make it easier to navigate through the project’s folders and files.

As languages, it supports many of the most popular languages. We are talking about C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, Python, Ruby, Vala and many others. Despite being somewhat rudimentary in some respects, it is an application that offers advanced capabilities and does not hog a large amount of resources.

Hello! We may need to create an online database for work purposes. In fact, there we will be able to organize a large amount of organized information where we can make future queries, perform searches, new entries, etc. The problem is that this will require some previous knowledge of programming. Certainly, it can become something problematic. However, we can also use some web applications. Here, we will explain how to create your own database without programming using Tadabase.

How to create your own online database with Tadabase

Tadabase is a web application. Consequently, you do not need to download any software to use it, as it is accessed directly from the browser. Using it, we will be able to create a database without the need to have any technical knowledge or write a single line of code. We only need to be able to drag and drop the necessary components and then connect them to a database.

This customized database will serve to automate daily business activities. For this purpose, it has an approval process, compliance tracking, customizable dashboard, task management, workflow configuration, among other issues. The platform works by hosting the projects created on our personal subdomain created. There, we can upload at the same time a data file that we want to use to process the personal information we entered at the time, such as a program like Microsoft Excel.

To test this online application, simply create a free account. Then upload a data file in CSV format, information that will be treated as a warehouse. Something that we must emphasize is that at the beginning it may seem somewhat complex. However, as you get more practice, you will be able to drive with ease. Let’s take a look at some features.

New data table

A data table is a collection of data, similar to a spreadsheet. In fact, you just need to give a name for the table and the fields you want to record, such as Customers or Orders. Once the database has been created and configured, we can use the information it contains to create pages in the form of tables, forms, graphs, etc.

The same platform offers a page that serves as a template. Consequently, we can start from scratch with a design or edit the existing one. When we are going to create a new page, we will have to assign a name and choose its design. We will also have to configure other parameters.

Task automation

From this section we can create scheduled tasks to trigger customized or on-demand automated workflows. For example, we can send automated emails and schedule them. It is also possible to generate a script that we can use to display components of our application. For example, it can be used to view records on the company’s website, such as its inventory, public route time or its asset listings.

Subsequently, to the page that we are going to create, we will do it with the CSV data that we have loaded. Therefore, we will be able to add elements such as buttons, graphs, images, frames, etc. To do so, it will only be necessary to drag and drop the objects. Once finished, the page is saved, and we can share it thanks to the subdomain assigned at the beginning.

Insert plugins

This web application also has support for various plugins from its Pipes section. Indeed, it has a good number of categories such as Utilities, API, Forms, Marketing, Surveys, Project Management, Time Management, among others. In addition, there is compatibility with such popular tools as Slack, Twitter, Trello, Google, Calendar, among many others. In addition, several of them are configurable. To install it, you only need to click on the desired one and then click on the Install button.

Tadabase: is it really recommended?

I know what you are wondering. Does Tadabase really work to create our own database? Well, it is certainly an option to consider for those who need to create an online database but do not have programming skills. In addition, it provides the user with all kinds of tools to carry it out. Therefore, it is a web solution for our database low cost, high security and rich in features. Specially designed for people who know nothing about coding.

Tadabase Plans and Pricing

Tadabase provides a 14-day free trial period. The only thing we will need to do is to register for which we can use our email and password. We can also access from our GitHub, Facebook, Twitter, and Google accounts. Once the trial period is over, it is necessary to purchase one of the following plans:

Plus: access to 10 applications, 100,000 records and 20 GB storage for $125 per month with annual billing.

Pro: access to 25 applications, 250,000 records and up to 50 GB of storage for $208 per month with annual billing.

Premium: up to 50 applications with 500,000 records and up to 100 GB storage for $400 per month with annual billing.

Bronze: allows up to 125 applications with 12,500,000 records and 200 GB storage, for $750 per month and annual billing.

We have already mentioned that it is a web application. Consequently, to use it, we only need a browser and an internet connection. So, it is not necessary to install any additional software.

Alternatives to Tadabase

Tadabase behaves very well. However, there are other alternatives to create databases:

Quickbase

It allows users to create applications so that we can manage almost any process starting with a template. In addition, allows building it from scratch in a simple way through the database. It even allows extracting data and information such as ERP and CRM, as well as create dynamic dashboards that are updated in real time. We can access a free 30-day version from their website.

Caspio

This is a no-code, cloud-based application development solution for all types of businesses. It has functions such as virtualization, scheduling, data flow management and data replication. In this way it helps its users to create applications without the need for programming skills. In addition, it integrates with cloud storage systems such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, among others. We can access a free trial version by clicking on this link to its official website.

At the end of the day, we have seen How to create your own database without programming using Tadabase. As a result, you will be able to manage your databases without any previous technical knowledge. Bye!

Debian and Ubuntu are some of the most stable Linux distributions out there. This is because the packages that are part of the official repositories are frozen and tested many times by many people. However, this brings a consequence: that we will not be able to have the most recent versions of the programs. An example of this is MariaDB which is a vital program for many people. So, today I will show you how to install MariaDB 10.6 on Ubuntu 20.4 / 18.04.

MariaDB is a well-known archi Database Relationships Management System that is a MySQL fork. This is due to the purchase of Sun Mycrosystem by Oracle. It is perfectly compatible with MySQL and is available in most Linux distributions.

In Ubuntu 20.04 and 18.04 LTS the version of MariaDB that is available in the official repositories is 10.3 and 10.1 respectively but recently has seen the release of version 10.5 with some interesting new features.

So, if you want to take advantage of having a recent version of this database manager, then welcome.

Install MariaDB 10.6 on Ubuntu 20.04 / 18.04

Open a terminal and install some necessary packages:

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
python3-software-properties
Recommended packages:
unattended-upgrades
The following packages will be upgraded:
python3-software-properties software-properties-common
2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 87 not upgraded.
Need to get 35.8 kB of archives.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

Once they’re ready we need to add the special MariaDB repository. This adds a lot of ease and security to the process because we won’t be using third-party repositories.

First, add the GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv --fetch-keys 'https://mariadb.org/mariadb_release_signing_key.asc'
Executing: /tmp/apt-key-gpghome.T8R2f9j18N/gpg.1.sh --fetch-keys https://mariadb.org/mariadb_release_signing_key.asc
gpg: requesting key from 'https://mariadb.org/mariadb_release_signing_key.asc'
gpg: key F1656F24C74CD1D8: public key "MariaDB Signing Key signing-key@mariadb.org" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1

Now add the repository as such for Ubuntu 20.04

sudo add-apt-repository 'deb [arch=amd64,arm64,ppc64el] http://nyc2.mirrors.digitalocean.com/mariadb/repo/10.6/ubuntu focal main'

Or Ubuntu 18.04:

sudo add-apt-repository 'deb [arch=amd64,arm64,ppc64el] http://nyc2.mirrors.digitalocean.com/mariadb/repo/10.6/ubuntu bionic main'

Note: you can choose another mirror closer to you on the MariaDB website.
Once the new repository is added to the system repository list, you can refresh APT.

sudo apt update

And finally, install MariaDB 10.6 with the following command:

sudo apt install mariadb-server
Then you can check the installed version:

mysql --version
mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.6.3-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2

With the installation of MariaDB a root password is not defined, so to define it use the mysql_secure_installation script

sudo mysql_secure_installation

Define the root password and then answer yes to all the questions asked.

Remove anonymous users? [Y/n]
Disallow root login remotely? [Y/n]
Remove test database and access to it? [Y/n]
Reload privilege tables now? [Y/n]

Now we are ready. MariaDB 10.6 is installed correctly.

Conclusion

MariaDB 10.6 is a good improvement over previous versions. But it is not always available in the official repositories of other Linux distributions. Today you have learned how to install it in Ubuntu 20.04 / 18.04.

Install MariaDB 10.6 on Rocky Linux 8 / AlmaLinux 8 / CentOS 8

MariaDB’s support with Linux is quite good and proof of this is that it provides us with a dedicated repository for Rocky Linux 8 / AlmaLinux 8 / CentOS 8 to facilitate installation.

So, access your server or start a terminal session and update the system. In this post, I worked as the root user. Also, you can use sudo if your user has permission to do so.

dnf update

And make sure you have installed the nano text editor

dnf install nano

Then we have to create a new repository entry in the DNF configuration which is
/etc/yum.repos.d/

So, create a file called mariadb.repo

nano /etc/yum.repos.d/mariadb.repo

And add the following information:

[mariadb]
name = MariaDB
baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/10.6/rhel8-amd64
module_hotfixes=1
gpgkey=https://yum.mariadb.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-MariaDB
gpgcheck=1

Then save the changes and close the editor.

Now install MariaDB 10.6

dnf install mariadb-server

During the installation, you will have to accept the GPG key from the repository and the installation will continue.

Hi, folks. In this post, you will learn how to install ODBC on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10 through a free implementation. If you use this database access API a lot, it will serve you well.

In a few words, ODBC is an open specification for providing application developers with a predictable API with which to access Data Sources. Data Sources include SQL Servers and any Data Source with an ODBC Driver.

With the need for an open-source implementation and compatibility with other operating systems, unixODBC was born. This project also has a graphical interface that you can use but its potential is in the binaries that offer compatibility with this implementation.

So, let’s go for it.

Installing ODBC on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10

Note: The screenshots are from version 2.3.7 but the post has been updated to the latest version which is 2.3.9. Don’t Worry.

Upgrading the system completely is the first step in performing this tutorial.

So, open a terminal and run the following commands:

:~$ sudo apt update
:~$ sudo apt upgrade

Once the installation has been completed, all the basic tools for compiling and building packages must be installed. This can easily be done with the following command:

:~$ sudo apt install build-essential
[sudo] password for angelo:
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
The following additional packages will be installed:

Suggested packages:
binutils-doc cpp-doc gcc-9-locales debian-keyring g++-multilib g++-9-multilib gcc-9-doc gcc-multilib autoconf automake libtool flex bison gdb gcc-doc gcc-9-multilib
glibc-doc bzr libstdc++-9-doc make-doc
The following NEW packages will be installed:
binutils binutils-common binutils-x86-64-linux-gnu build-essential cpp cpp-9 dpkg-dev fakeroot g++ g++-9 gcc gcc-9 gcc-9-base libalgorithm-diff-perl
libalgorithm-diff-xs-perl libalgorithm-merge-perl libasan5 libatomic1 libbinutils libc-dev-bin libc6-dev libcc1-0 libcrypt-dev libctf-nobfd0 libctf0 libdpkg-perl

Need to get 39.9 MB of archives.
After this operation, 175 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

This will install all the dependencies we need to install unixODBC on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10

The next step is to download the unixODBC source code file. At the time of writing, the latest stable version is 2.3.9

:~$ wget ftp://ftp.unixodbc.org/pub/unixODBC/unixODBC-2.3.9.tar.gz

Then decompress the generated file and go to the unixODBC folder.

:~$ tar xvzf unixODBC-2.3.9.tar.gz
:~$ cd unixODBC-2.3.9/

There you prepare the file for compilation:

:~$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/unixODBC

Then, using the make command to create the package

:~$ make

And finally, install it on the system by running the following command:

:~$ sudo make install

When the process is finished you can go to the
/usr/local/unixODBC/bin
folder and see all the binaries that have been installed.

Conclusion

The implementation of ODBC on Unix systems is done by unixODBC with the guarantee of being opensource and quite stable. It’s a very interesting database project that can be very useful to many professionals. So in this post, I’ve shown you how to install it from the source code.

Hello, friends. In this post, you will learn how to install Microsoft SQL Server on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10 Although in Linux we have many OpenSource options this database manager is quite good and is still used by many companies today.

In terms of proprietary database managers perhaps Oracle Database, IBM DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server are the most used and common options by many companies. They have the great advantage of having large companies behind them that provide a high level of support to their operations.

Also, there are other quite competent open-source options such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Percona. However, many companies still trust their data to proprietary options and the fact that we can install them in Ubuntu speaks well of our system. So let’s go for it.

Install Microsoft SQL Server on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10

As you can imagine, SQL Server is not available in the official Ubuntu repositories but it is available through the repository offered by Microsoft.

So, open a terminal or connect via SSH and update the system:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install software-properties-common

Then import the GPG key from the Microsoft repository.

sudo wget -qO- https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc | sudo apt-key add -

After that, add the SQL Server repository as such.

sudo add-apt-repository "$(wget -qO- https://packages.microsoft.com/config/ubuntu/18.04/mssql-server-2019.list)"

Next, refresh APT.

sudo apt update

And now you can install Microsoft SQL Server by executing the following command:

sudo apt install mssql-server

Microsoft SQL Server is pretty good at what it does and that is why many companies have it as their database manager. Having it available on Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 10 is not a difficult task and brings us even closer to the integration between Microsoft and Linux products.

Relational database management systems dominate many segments of programming. However, it is increasingly common to see real alternatives to this type of database. Of those applications, it seems that MongoDB is one of the most popular but ArangoDB improves and improves every day. In this post, I will tell you about ArangoDB, some of the main features and more. Also, I will show you how to install ArangoDB on Fedora 34/33

A little bit of ArangoDB

ArangoDB is a NoSQL database manager. It is built in C++ and is open source. Its main feature is that it is multi-model. That is, it supports different data models such as (JSON), graphs and key-value.

On the other hand, ArangoDB has two versions. The first one is paid and offers support at different levels. The second is communitarian, ideal for small or educational projects.

If you want to manage a server instance easily, ArangoDB allows it through a nice and intuitive web interface. Besides this, it has connectors for many programming languages, so this should not be a limitation. Of course, it has installers for many Linux distributions.

So let us get to work.

Install ArangoDB on Fedora 34/33

First, open your terminal and update Fedora 34/33

sudo dnf update

Once the system is fully upgraded, it is possible to start the process.

ArangoDB is not present in the main Fedora 34/33 repositories but they provide an external repository where you can install it.

So, navigate to the
/etc/yum.repos.d/
folder which is where the repository configuration files are stored.

cd /etc/yum.repos.d/

And inside it, download a file containing the data needed to set up the repository.

sudo curl -OL https://download.arangodb.com/arangodb37/RPM/arangodb.repo
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed

And now proceed with the installation by executing:

sudo dnf install arangodb3-3.7.9-1.0

1.- Install ArangoDB on Fedora 34/33

This will start the installation process.

When it is finished, you will have to start the ArangoDB service

sudo systemctl start arangodb3.service

And make it start with the system:

sudo systemctl enable arangodb3.service

Hello, friends. We already know that developers or people who are in charge of a database, require professional clients to facilitate their task. So, in this post, we will introduce you to DbGate which is another client that supports many database managers.

DbGate is a modern database management client that works with both SQL drivers such as MariaDB, MySQL; and with NoSQL such as MongoDB.

We are talking about a Free and open-source application that has been released under the MIT license. This makes that you can use it in many projects of diverse nature.

Another aspect to take into account with DbGate is that it is cross-platform. This means that we can use it on Windows, macOS, and of course Linux. Quite useful to improve possible migrations between operating systems. If you come from Windows, you can also use this application.

With DbGate you can easily:

Connect to multiple databases, directly or through SSH tunnel. Important in terms of security.

Browse or edit data in your tables or views, filter by column value. This using a data editor.

Edit SQL queries with auto-complete suggestions or use query designer.

Export and import from/to CSV, JSON, or Excel.

Connect to MongoDB, browse or filter JSON document data.

In addition to this, you can further extend the functionality of the program by adding plugins.

Install DbGate on Linux

In the Linux chaos, we have several options depending on the system you are using. In the case of Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives there is a
DEB
package that can be downloaded from Github or using the terminal.

wget -c https://github.com/dbgate/dbgate/releases/download/v4.2.0/dbgate-latest.deb

And then install it, using APT.

sudo apt install ./dbgate-latest.deb

Then you can run it from the main menu.

1.- DbGate running

There are also other formats like APPImage that you can run from any other Linux distribution or use the binaries.

Conclusion

Having professional tools for database management is a serious matter that requires some preliminary research. At the moment, DbGate has all the basic features to make it a solid alternative to others on the market. Being OpenSource and including Linux support, it generates more exceptions and is an option to take into account.

Enjoy it!

Hello, friends. Fedora is popular among developers and computer students. So it’s good to learn how to install PHPMyAdmin on Fedora 34/33 for those who don’t know it.

PHPMyAdmin is an open-source application created in PHP that provides the administration of a MySQL or MariaDB database from a comfortable web interface. It is simply installed on the server, we make a few small configurations and that’s it. That’s it. Without consuming many resources you will have a quality application.
So, let’s get started.

Install PHPMyAdmin on Fedora 34/33

Fedora 33 is characterized by fairly comprehensive repositories. So we won’t have any problems installing it.

So, open a terminal and update Fedora 34/33.

sudo dnf update

After that, you can start the installation of PHPMyAdmin by running the following command

sudo dnf install phpMyAdmin

If you do not have a web server installed, the Apache web server will be installed during the process.

Therefore, we have to start and enable the Apache webserver to load along with the system.

sudo systemctl start httpd
sudo systemctl enable httpd

After that, check the status of the service to see if everything is in order.

sudo systemctl status httpd
● httpd.service - The Apache HTTP Server
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service; disabled; vendor preset: disabled)
     Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service.d
              └─php-fpm.conf

              ├─2154 /usr/sbin/httpd -DFOREGROUND
              ├─2155 /usr/sbin/httpd -DFOREGROUND
              ├─2156 /usr/sbin/httpd -DFOREGROUND
              └─2370 /usr/sbin/httpd -DFOREGROUND

May 08 19:25:13 osradar httpd[2152]: Server configured, listening on: port 80

So all is well. Also, remember that port
80
has to be open to accept connections even if it is from localhost and logically if PHPMyAdmin is installed on a server.

firewall-cmd --add-port=80/tcp --permanent
Success
firewall-cmd --add-port=443/tcp --permanent
Success
firewall-cmd --reload

Configuring PHPMyAdmin

If you have installed the application on your computer locally, you can open a web browser and access
http://localhost/phpmyadmin
to see the login screen.

But, if you have done this installation on a remote server, which can solve some problems, then you may want to make a prior adjustment to the Apache configuration file.

sudo nano /etc/httpd/conf.d/phpMyAdmin.conf

And change the
<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin>
section to this one

<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin>
    AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
    Require all granted
</Directory>

Save the changes and now you will be able to access from any computer via
http://server/phpmyadmin

So, enjoy it.

Conclusion

PHPMyAdmin is a vital tool for many developers. It allows you to visualize MySQL or MariaDB data quickly through a well-designed graphical interface that does not consume many computer resources. Thanks to this post, you can enjoy the latest stable version of PHPMyAdmin on Fedora 34/ 33

Hello, friends. In this opportunity, I will show you how to install Cloud Panel on Debian 10 It is a fairly simple process but that allows us to have a simple and effective web administration panel.

According to the project website:

CloudPanel is a free server control panel for PHP, built for the cloud for maximum performance and security.

It is compatible with many of the most popular cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure but we can also install it on our server without any problem.

Some of the main features of CloudPanel are:

CloudPanel is free. So, No Contract, hidden costs, limitations, or restrictions.

A clean and easy-to-use server control panel to get things done in no time.

Supports more than ten languages.

Free SSL Certificates for all of your domains, with one-click, automatically renewed.

Ultra-fast lightweight components like NGINX, PHP-FPM, and MySQL for maximum performance.

So it is a very valid option for projects of all types of sizes.

Install CloudPanel on Debian 10

Despite being so powerful and useful, CloudPanel is only available for Debian 10 and servers with at least 2Gb of RAM and 15 Gb of disk space. Logically, the more capacity the server has, the better.

For this post, you need to have root access.

So, open a terminal or connect to the server via SSH and update the system.

apt update
apt upgrade

Then install some packages needed for the tutorial like
curl
and
wget

apt install curl wget
