<p>Time goes by, often without us realizing it. Indeed, a year has already passed since the launch of <a href="https://www.osradar.com/the-new-windows-package-manager-is-great/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winget.</a> Indeed, Windows Package Manager is the first Windows 10 package manager itself. A tool that allows you to use commands from the terminal to install applications. Just like in GNU/Linux distributions. Winget is an open-source tool available on GitHub. In addition, its developers had promised to release version 1.0 in May 2021. A goal they have been able to achieve. Certainly, the tool is still in a preliminary state. However, much progress has been made. Especially in terms of the commands available. In short, Winget upgrades to version 1.0.</p>

<h2>Some new features of Winget update 1.0</h2>

<p>Recall that Winget initially offered only 6 commands. However, with the arrival of version 1.0, we have reached 14 commands, including the upgrade, list, and uninstall commands. These allow you to update, list, or uninstall all apps automatically. The settings command is also available. This command displays the configuration by opening the .JSON file. Once there, we can do things like change the progress bar to a rainbow. But it is also possible to disable telemetry.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="859" height="732" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win3.png" alt="List of commands available for Winget" class="wp-image-30344" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win3.png 859w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win3-300x256.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win3-768x654.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win3-696x593.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px" /><figcaption>List of commands available for Winget</figcaption></figure>

<p>We also have the export/import command for the List of commands available for Winget. Additionally, the list of available repositories has grown. Even including applications from the Windows Store. With the <em>winget search</em> command, you can get the list of available applications.</p>

<h2>How to install and use Winget</h2>

<p>The only requirement to install Winget is to have Windows 10 1809 or a later version. Then, just download the installer from GitHub. It is available from this<a href="https://github.com/microsoft/winget-cli/releases/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> link. </a>Please note that the name of version 1.0 is <em>Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle.</em></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="787" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-1024x787.png" alt="Downloading Winget version 1.0" class="wp-image-30342" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-1024x787.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-300x231.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-768x590.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-696x535.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win-1068x821.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Downloading Winget version 1.0</figcaption></figure>

<p>The installation process is very simple. Whether you are upgrading to 1.0 or installing for the first time. Just follow the process like any other Windows app. Once you are done, just use the terminal of your choice. Windows PowerShell, Command Prompt, the new Windows terminal, or a third-party client.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="652" height="415" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win2.png" alt="" class="wp-image-30343" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win2.png 652w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/win2-300x191.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px" /></figure>

<p>To display the available commands, just type <em>winget i</em>n the terminal. Installing an application is as simple as using the syntax <em>winget install packagename.</em> For example, to install the VLC player, just use <em>winget install vlc.</em> To upgrade from the terminal, just use the <em>upgrade </em>command. Now, if you have installed several applications installed with Winget, then use <em>winget upgrade</em>. This command will show all the apps that have new versions available. To upgrade all apps at once, please use <em>winget upgrade &#8211;all.</em> You can upgrade an individual program as well. With this in mind, use <em>winget upgrade vlc</em>. Obviously, you have to click Next when the program installs the new version. However, it saves you the trouble of looking for the new version manually.</p>

<p>On the other hand, if you don&#8217;t want to fiddle with the commands. Or manually search the long list of packages. Then you can resort to <a href="https://www.osradar.com/winstall-how-to-use-a-graphical-interface-with-winget/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winstall,</a> the unofficial graphical interface for Winget. It allows you to choose programs from a nice web interface, and then install them with Winget. But in a simple way and with less work. Very well, in the end, we have seen that Winget upgrades to version 1.0. Bye!</p>

<p>Hi! In a previous post, we talked about the Windows Package Manager. In fact, this new tool also called Winget, is an interesting option to install programs. Despite being in a preliminary state, its operation is smooth and stable. Also, despite being new, the catalog of available programs is very extensive. On the other hand, the installation method reminds of the Linux system, since it is necessary to use the terminal. However, Microsoft did not include a graphical user interface with the program. For that reason, some users may feel somewhat uncomfortable. However, independent developer <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://twitter.com/mehedih_" target="_blank">Mehedi Hassan</a> decided to solve this problem. And the result is Winstall, a web app that allows us to install apps in Windows 10 in batch. Also, in a fast and easy way. In other words, Winstall allows you to use a graphical interface with Winget.</p>

<h2>Winstall: Winget&#8217;s unofficial graphical user interface</h2>

<p>If, as we mentioned, Winstall fills the gap left by Microsoft by not incorporating GUI into Winget. This package manager offers a very pleasant experience when installing programs. However, the fact of using only commands can make some users feel intimidated. Well, the latest version of Winstall incorporates its own API, in addition to other important improvements. For example, dedicated pages for each application, search for applications by tag, developer, or latest update date. Also, it incorporates icons and the selection of multiple versions of the same app. And everything is managed from the web.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="546" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-1024x546.png" alt="" class="wp-image-21066" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-1024x546.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-300x160.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-768x409.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-696x371.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1-1068x569.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win-1.png 1366w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2>What is the utility of Winstall?</h2>

<p>If you&#8217;re not familiar with Winget and Winstall, then you might ask yourself this question. Surely, you would think that installing an app is as easy as clicking on it. In short, this app saves you these clicks. Also, it avoids having to go to every website to find the programs. In addition, the apps are downloaded from their official sites. Therefore, there is no danger of downloading viruses or Trojans. On the other hand, it is necessary to have Winget installed, as we show you <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.osradar.com/the-new-windows-package-manager-is-great/" target="_blank">here.</a> As we saw, in order to install a program, it is necessary to run a command in the terminal. What Winstall does is show the programs and automatically generate a script. Then, you just have to copy this command into a CMD or PowerShell. In addition, it is possible to select several apps at the same time.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="546" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-1024x546.png" alt="Script ready to install Spotify, Zoom and Dropbox at the same time" class="wp-image-21067" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-1024x546.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-300x160.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-768x409.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-696x371.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1-1068x569.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win2-1.png 1366w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Script generated ready to install Spotify, Zoom and Dropbox at the same time</figcaption></figure>

<p>Another way to use Winstall is to generate a .bat file. Once the app selection is done, click on the Download .bat option. Please ignore any warning signals from the browser, as the file is safe. Then, double-click on it and it will start the installation of the apps.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="546" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-1024x546.png" alt="Download the .bat file to install the apps with winget" class="wp-image-21068" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-1024x546.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-300x160.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-768x409.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-696x371.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1-1068x569.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/win3-1.png 1366w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Download the .bat file to install the apps with winget</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Conclusion</h2>

<p>As noted, Winstall allows the use of a graphical interface with Winget. Now if you have no excuse to use this great package manager. From time to time, Microsoft surprises us with good innovations like this. Hopefully, over time, it will be polished up. But at the moment it looks very good. See you later!</p>
