Hello! It is well known that some Windows updates break things. Indeed, this has been a recurring practice. Specifically, the last two updates corresponding to July and August, have been problematic. They have broken key system functions. Most of all for the gamer users. We are talking about the Alt+Tab function. Corresponding to the July 2021 update in the preview version. And it also reaches the August 2021 update. See why the latest Windows update breaks the gaming experience.

Latest Windows 10 update disables Alt+Tab and breaks the gaming experience

The bug was in the June preview version. It is well known that it was an optional update. Therefore, it was to be expected that Microsoft would fix the bug. Even before the final update in August. Unfortunately, this was not the case. So, patch KB5004296 is breaking the Alt+Tab function on some computers. This feature allows you to quickly switch between open windows. However, this bug affects the function when playing games. Specifically, if we play the game and press the combination, we will not be able to switch between the game and the app. On the contrary, Windows will take us directly to the desktop and not to the app. In addition, if you want to return to the game, then the screen will appear black. So you have to close it to open it again.

The latest Windows 10 update breaks the gaming experience

Possible solutions to this failure.

The bug occurs if we are playing in full-screen mode. So let’s see some possible solutions. First of all, you can uninstall the updates. Which carries some security risks. Another solution is to run the game in fullscreen mode without borders. It has been reported that the error is generated by the News and Interests function. Therefore, you would just have to disable it. With this in mind, right-click on the taskbar. Next, News and Interest and finally click on Turn off.

In the end, we have seen that the latest Windows update breaks the gaming experience. Therefore, we recommend waiting a bit before installing these updates, see you soon!

Some Windows security updates were affected by problems during the month of March. In fact, at the beginning of the month, it was reported that an update caused a blue screen of death. Specifically, with computers connected to some printers. Therefore, Microsoft released a patch to fix this problem. However, the patch brought more bugs than fixes. So it had to be withdrawn and later re-released. Consequently, the Redmond company has adopted another policy. This time it has released a patch that fixes many problems. But it is released as an optional update. Today we will see that the latest Windows 10 patch fixes many bugs.

Latest optional Windows Update patch will solve many bugs

The monthly update will be optional

We are talking about a preview or preliminary version. Let’s say, a beta of the patch. It would usually be received on Thursdays of each month in the usual security patch. The general idea is to cater to those who have been really affected by problems. Those who should update as soon as possible. This way they avoid causing more inconvenience with the patch. The Windows Update Twitter account has clarified how everything will work.

The March 2021 monthly “C” release preview update for Windows 10, version 20H2 and Windows 10, version 2004 is now available. https://t.co/kd0iVyybZN
— Windows Update (@WindowsUpdate) March 29, 2021

Problems solved by this update

So pay attention. If you have been affected by some of these problems, then the optional update KB5000842 fixes them:

Fixed issue with zooming that occurs when using Microsoft Edge IE mode on devices using multiple high pixel density monitors.

Fixed issue causing High Dynamic Range (HDR) displays to appear much darker than expected.

A repaired issue causing video playback to be out of sync in duplicate mode when using multiple monitors.

Fixed issue that causes “Computing Filters” to be displayed indefinitely or not at all when filtering File Explorer search results.

Fixed issue that causes the split layout to be unavailable for the touch keyboard when a device is rotated to portrait mode.

Informs users when a Family Safety Plan child account has administrative privileges.

Fixed issue preventing closing toast notifications with the close button on touchscreen devices.

A repaired issue with 7.1-channel audio technology.

Fixed issue that causes a device to stop working if files or folders that OneDrive syncs are deleted.

So now you know. The latest Windows 10 patch fixes many bugs. However, it will be an optional download for more problems. We recognize Microsoft’s effort to improve the situation with updates. In addition, it is likely that more such measures will be taken in the future. This would imply a leap in quality. Since the user would benefit more. I am personally of the opinion that this policy should be maintained. All right, that’s all for now. Stay tuned for more updates on Windows 10. Bye!

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update brought more problems than solutions. Users around the world are complaining about a new bug. A bug in Windows 10 that prevents you from using the internet. The error makes it impossible for some applications to connect to the internet. Therefore, the applications do not work. For example, Spotify.

Interestingly, the internet connection remains active. Users report two scenarios. In the first, the connectivity icon indicates no connection but they can browse. In the second, applications show connection failure but can browse.

The reason is that the link from Windows 10 to the server is broken. The link that indicates whether or not there is a connection at the system level. The Windows 10 software that asks for information about the computer’s connection. So it allows you to use certain browsers because there is an internet connection. But the apps linked to that API cannot connect. This causes some applications not to connect. However, the solution is simple:

Search for ‘Registry Editor’, using the Windows taskbar search.

Open the ‘Registry Editor’ and allow it to make changes.

In the ‘Registry Editor’ go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\SvcParameters

Right click on ‘EnableActiveProbing’ and select ‘Edit’.

Change the value from 0 to 1.

Click ‘OK’ to close the menu and save the changes.

Restart the computer.

Another alternative to open the registry editor is to type in Windows + R and type in Regedit. Then press ‘Enter’ and access the registry. Afterward, the user proceeds to look for the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Internet. You then proceed to the next set of steps indicated in the first option.

Applications give out Internet connection error messages

Window in trouble: but that prevents using the Internet is not the only

As mentioned, the Windows 10 May 2020 Update brought more problems than solutions. In addition to the fact that the update prevents the use of the Internet, there are major problems. The main one is that, although we are finishing July, there are many users who have not been able to update. The difficulty arises because the service marks an unknown error and does not provide details to solve it.

The second is because both the Windows 10 2004 update (the May 2020 Update) and some subsequent patches have come with some errors. Consequently, the error mentioned in this post. And we’ll ask ourselves, why so many errors? Although the bugs in Windows 10 are not new.

The answer is that the source code of the operating system has many lines of code. This ensures a great compatibility with previous systems. However, the abundant lines of code complicate its manipulation. The process of upgrading or troubleshooting includes irremediably affecting another function. This is why the bug that prevents you from using the internet is the least of the problems. Microsoft responds to the passage of so many difficulties. While we wait for a solution to the multiple errors of this update, read our How to activate God mode in Windows 10.

Hello! Microsoft’s product update policy is well known. That is, they are programmed to receive updates periodically and install them automatically. This mechanism is very useful for desktop systems, since it avoids making manual searches for updates. However, in the server environment this can have non-functional consequences. Since some of these updates may cause the system to reboot. In addition, rebooting the server is critical, since many services, processes and folders depend on server activity. Well, in today’s post we’ll see how to disable automatic updates in Windows Server 2019/2016.

How to disable automatic updates in Windows Server 2019/2016

All right, to do this you need to enter the server settings. With this intention, press the Win+X combination and launch a PowerShell with administrator privileges.

Launch a PowerShell with administrator privileges.

Below are the available options:

A: Automatic. This sets up Windows Update to automatically download and install updates on your computer

D: Download Only. With this option, the updates will be downloaded, but will not be installed on the server. Consequently, the user will decide when to install it.

M: Manual. This is one of the most ideal options since no available updates will be downloaded. In effect, the administrator will determine when to download and install any updates.

In this case, please enable this option. With this in mind, enter the letter M and press Enter. The change will be applied immediately. Back to the previous screen, press the number 5, and validate that the updates are now manual.

Conclusion

All right, this simple way we’ve seen how to disable automatic updates in Windows Server 2019/2016. As mentioned, it is highly recommended maintaining control over this aspect on the server. Since some updates force a reboot of the system. Additionally, the nature of the system means that it must always be kept active. And this is because a great number of resources depend on the constant activity of the server. All right, that’s it for now. Sometimes, these little tips can make a difference in the optimal functioning of the system. I hope you find it useful.

With the next May update to be released. Windows 10 presents problems with its update KB4549951. Users report the error in the official Microsoft forums. And it is the error deleting user profiles and their data from Windows 10.

Apparently, the problem introduced with the patch KB4532693 in February, returned. At that time, Windows 10 finally recognized and solved the bug. At least that’s what it looked like until it reappeared. The problem is the disappearance of user profiles and data. That is, the content of the profiles also disappears (files, documents, photos).

However, it seems that these are not deleted permanently. Instead, the system creates a new user and hides the real user. Despite this, the original user and data do not reappear after rebooting the computer. The cause of the problem is unknown. Some users have difficulty switching from 1903 to 1909 via Windows Update. Also, others have presented the failure after a Windows installation.

Possible solution for error deleting user profiles

As mentioned above, apparently Windows does not delete the profile. Instead, it renames the profile and disables it. Therefore, the data is not deleted, but is available. Except in extreme cases of failure.

The original profile of the users must be in the directory C:Users. But instead of a folder there will be a file with an unknown extension, like “.ooo” or “.bak”. There are different ways to fix the problem and to recover the profile with your data:

The first is to restart the computer 6 to 8 times. Then Windows 10 restores the user’s original profile. Similarly, it recovers the profile data.

Another alternative is to create a new user account. And through the account, try to access the temporary account. Later, we will have access to all our data and we will be able to recover all our profile manually.

After using these alternatives, the problem will probably disappear. That is, the error that removes user profiles will be solved. We hope that finally Microsoft will solve this bug. And that this time the solution will be permanent. Also, we are confident that the solution will arrive before the May update. And that this one does not come with similar bugs.
Microsoft brings a big surprise for users. Specifically in its next update. Although the update does not include many changes. The main innovation is valid for everyone. And that is that Redmond speeds up the operation of Windows 10. The news comes in the May Update this year. Yes, Windows 10 faster.

This improvement responds to frequent complaints about the system slowdown. In fact, the update favors users with older hard disks. The improvement consists of the file indexing process. Indexing allows you to quickly find files when searching for them. Previously, indexing was done constantly in the background. This process occupied the processor. Therefore, the execution of tasks was delayed.

Now, Windows developed a system that checks the processes. For example, if the user is playing or running a process that occupies a lot of data. The system indicates that the indexing is done when the use decreases. Otherwise, if the user copies, pastes, or removes files, the indexing will stop. And the process is postponed until it is finished.

Thanks to this, the system is not overloaded. Also, the processes are lightened. Many users refused to migrate to Windows 10. Probably because their computers were old. And they ran better with Windows 7 or Windows 8. This upgrade allows you to use Windows 10 more quickly. This means that now these users will be able to enjoy the operating system.

Conclusion

The big change is most evident in computers with hard disks. On the other hand, on computers with SSD, the progress will be less noticeable. This update is now available for Insiders. It will soon be released publicly, and we will be able to enjoy it. It definitely improves the user experience. As well as solving problems for users unable to acquire new technologies.
Microsoft Teams announced that the platform will have new features. In fact, many of them are related to meetings. In particular, for remote medical consultations and video conferencing. Updates are up to the users. Specifically to the thousands who use the tool by COVID-19. Thus, Microsoft focuses the updates on the dynamics of work and learning of these people.

According to Jared Spataro, corporate vice president, Microsoft 365, thousands of organizations have used Teams. This search for a center for teamwork. Also, that allows them to stay connected and committed to the tasks of the company.

What’s new in Microsoft Teams?

What’s new builds a better online meeting experience. Also, they seek to bring technological solutions to meet the needs of frontline workers. Likewise, for health care workers. Sequentially, Team brings a new option for real-time noise suppression. This option can minimize background noise. The same that sometimes serves as a distraction. Or it prevents you from clearly hearing what a person is saying.

Additionally, the “raise your hand” function allows you to send a visual signal to indicate that there is a contribution to be made. This option is useful in large meetings. Because participants may have difficulty communicating their input.

News comes also for industrial workers. Through a new integration between Teams and the RealWear HMT-1 device, frontline workers will be able to access information. As well as communicate with remote experts from their workplace.

In the last 3 years, thousands of companies have used Microsoft Teams to work remotely. However, in the last few months it has increased due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The Bookings application in Teams makes it easy to schedule, manage and make virtual appointments. For situations that require B2C virtual consultations. For example, medical consultations with patients. As well as meetings with clients or interviews with candidates for a job.

Regarding chats, Teams will soon show chats in a separate window. This way, it optimizes the workflow and allows mobility. This is easily done between ongoing conversations. Also, comes the offline and low-bandwidth support. It allows you to read chat messages and write responses. Even without an internet connection, so that tasks can be advanced anywhere.

Microsoft Teams expands its tools little by little. It does so through alliances with other platforms. Including now appropriate functions for conference rooms. These new features improve the forced experience of many users who work and study thanks to this option. We already want to see what Microsoft Teams brings us next. And talking about Microsoft Teams in COVID-19 times, did you read our post about <a href="https://windowsmen.com/microsoft-team-suffered-a-fall-but-got-up/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="the fall it had at the beginning of the month in Europe?
Windows Insider is a program from Microsoft to assist with system updates. Users who have signed up for the program enjoy free updates made by the programmers. Before they reach ordinary users. This in exchange for helping to develop new features for Windows 10.

Pros of being a Windows Insider

Besides collaborating with the development and improvement of Windows 10. Among the positive features of being part of Windows Insider are

Having official free Windows 10: Certainly not with the final versions, but with the trial versions. However, in the last rings the risks are minimal. Since most of the errors have already been corrected. And, in fact, you will have the free Windows as long as you use the Insider Previews only.

Enjoy the new features first before they are shown to others: New features arrive in the rings months before they are officially released. The faster and more unstable the ring, the faster and more you will receive updates.

Choose the level of stability or ring. Windows Insider is divided into 6 rings. The first 3 rings are available to Windows developers. The last 3 rings for Windows Insider users. The lower the stability of the ring, the more updates or builds you will have. The rings are:

Canary Ring: Here the Windows developers propose and test for the first time the updates.

Windows and Devices Group Ring: Here are the approved updates in the Canary Ring.

Microsoft Ring: Here comes the approved updates in the Windows and Devices Group Ring. In this ring both developers and other Microsoft workers can approve the updates.

Quick Ring: This is the first public ring for Insiders. Here come the beta versions of the next updates. It is the most unstable and the highest moving level. Because the versions probably have a lot of bugs or errors.

Slow Ring: Here are the most stable updates after passing the Fast Ring.

Release Preview: This is the point before the release of the updates. It’s the most stable ring with the least movement. Because the errors in the updates must have been corrected when you got here.

Cons of being an Insider

Like everything else, there are also negative aspects to being part of the Insider community. Among them are:

You can’t enjoy the final versions: While you are part of Windows Insiders, you can’t have the final updates obtained with license. That is, you will never enjoy the latest version that you help improve.

System instability: As updates are released, bugs and errors are common. This gives little stability to the system. Therefore, it is preferable that the computer you use to be an Insider is for personal use and not for work.

These are some of the features of Windows Insider. Would you like to be part of the Insider community? In our next post we will explain you step by step how to join. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our latest article on

Windows 10 is known for its constant failures in updates. Because of this, Microsoft created a user program dedicated to improvements. This program is called Windows Insiders. Through Windows Insiders, users can test the updates made by the company. Also, users check the operation of the new features. Of course, before they are released to the market. In this way, the same users check the good or bad functioning of the update. This is to avoid users having to uninstall updates.

Despite the efforts made by Redmon’s people with this strategy, errors persist. In fact, we recently read about Microsoft’s own recommendation to uninstall its latest system update. This last one was due to problems in the functions that the update should improve.

Uninstall updates step by step

However, everything has a solution. The good thing is that updates can be uninstalled. And in this post, we explain how.

First of all, we enter the start menu and press the ‘settings’ button. This button is above the ‘power’ button. You can recognize it by its gear icon. With this tool, we can configure aspects of the system like security and updates.

Press Settings button in the start menu

A window with different configuration options will then appear. We will refer to the last row. Then, we select the ‘Update and Security’ option.

Click on Update and Security

A window with a sidebar is then displayed. The first box of this is ‘Windows updates’. This section displays available updates. As well as the alternatives to pause or activate them, and advanced options. There is also an update history. We will press this last option.

Enter in Windows Updates

Consequently, we found the list of updates recently installed on our system. At the top, we click on the option ‘Uninstall Updates’.

Update History

After selecting ‘Uninstall Updates’, you will now be directed to the control panel. There you will see again the list of updates in more detail. Select the update you want to uninstall. Then press the ‘Uninstall’ option.

List of updates in the Control Panel.

Automatically after selecting ‘Uninstall’ the confirmation window appears. Consequently, press ‘yes’ and that’s it. The uninstallation process of the update starts.

Confirmation to uninstall the update

You won’t have to worry about a buggy update anymore. In any case, the important thing is to detect the faults in time and prevent them from causing further inconvenience. At least Windows 10 allows you to uninstall updates you don’t want. Whether they work or not. We trust that Microsoft, instead of inviting us to uninstall, will fix the errors in the updates. Meanwhile, I hope this post is useful to you.
