Hi! One of the most recognizable aspects of Windows is its graphical interface. Indeed, it is one of the differentiating aspects of the operating system. Moreover, it is one of Microsoft’s identities. Through it, users feel identified. Many people easily recognize the window system. Therefore, the taskbar is one of the most recognizable elements. Well, it can happen that this bar fails. When this happens, the taskbar will stop responding to the commands given to it. Or simply freeze without interacting with the mouse. Read on to find out how to repair Windows 10 taskbar.

Some methods to repair taskbar operation.

If you got this far, it is because your system taskbar is not responding correctly. Well, we will show you some methods to solve this annoying problem.

Restart Windows Explorer to repair the taskbar in Windows 10

Windows Explorer is one of the main utilities of Windows 10. In fact, it contains several essential elements for the operation of the system. Additionally, the taskbar is an element that is part of Windows Explorer. Therefore, if we are experiencing any problem with it, then we can fix it by restarting. It is very likely that you will solve the failure in this way. Here are a couple of options to do it. Any of them will work for you.

Use Task Manager to restart Windows Explorer

Task Manager helps to remove unresponsive programs on your computer. Consequently, we can use it to kill and restart Windows explorer and consequently fix the taskbar. Follow these steps:

Press the combination Ctrl+Shift+Esc to invoke the Task Manager.

Now you have to click on the Processes tab. Consequently, all currently active processes will be displayed.

Task manager>Processes

Next, scroll down to the bottom until you get to the Windows Explorer process. Finally, right click on it and select the Restart option.

Restarting Windows explorer.

This will restart Windows Explorer and your taskbar should then work.

Restart Windows Explorer using command prompt

Another way to relaunch Windows Explorer is to use the Command Prompt utility on your PC. It is a simple process. Let’s see how to do it.

There are several ways to go to the command prompt. You can use Cortana, the run box, by executing the CMD command. Well, this time we will use the search menu itself. To accomplish this, click on the magnifying glass icon. Alternatively, you can press the Win+Q combination. Once there, enter the term CMD.

Launching a command prompt.

Then execute the following command by pressing Enter.

taskill /f / im explorer.exe

Restarting Windows Explorer from CMD

Troubleshoot Windows 10 taskbar issues by re-registering it.

Some external element might have disabled the taskbar of your system. In this case, we will be able to re-register this element. With this in mind, we will use the PowerShell. This will restore functionality to the taskbar. All we will do is run a simple command within the console. The first thing you have to do is to go to the PowerShell. We will do this from the search button by entering the term PowerShell.

Launching a PowerShell

Enter the following command in the PowerShell window and press Enter

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$ ($ _.InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml"}

Registering the taskbar with PowerShell

Close the PowerShell window.

Please verify that the file explorer shows hidden files. If you want to know how to do it, please have a look at this post. Although it is oriented to Windows 11, it also works for Windows 10.

Now please go to this address: C:\Users\youruser\AppData\Local

Find the folder named TileDataLayer, right-click on it and select Delete.

Prevent certain applications from starting at startup

We are still looking for reasons that affect the operation of the taskbar. One of the possible reasons is the loading of some applications together with Windows startup. It may happen that some of them interfere with the correct functioning of the taskbar. Then what we will do is to disable the startup of those apps to resolve the problem. Let’s see how to do it. The first thing you have to do is to go to Windows Settings. With this in mind, press the Win+I combination.

Windows Settings>Apps

Next, in the left column, is a Start menu. Consequently, the right column displays all the apps that are loaded together with the system startup. Additionally, there are switches to enable or disable the startup of each app. There is even a system impact meter. Now it is just a matter of deactivating the apps that are harming the behavior of the taskbar.

Use another user account on the computer

Occasionally, a specific user action may cause the taskbar to fail. Consequently, it is a good idea to check if the taskbar works with another user’s account, even within the same system. To create another user, please follow this path:

Windows Settings>Accounts>Family & Other Users>Add someone else to this PC.

Adding a new user.

Then, just log out of your main account. Next, please log in with the newly created account. We have gone deeper into this topic in the following post.

Rollback to a system restore point

Restoring, a system restore point, helps you undo any significant changes you have recently made to your computer. This should return your machine to what it was before you made any changes to it. To start using this function, just press the Win+Q combination and in the search button, please enter Restore Point.

Using the system restore function in Windows 10

In this post we give you more detailed information about it. Okay, so we have seen how to repair taskbar in Windows 10.
Hello! Consider this scenario. You are working on your computer. Then, something goes wrong and the system stops responding. Consequently, the simplest and most apparent solution is to reboot the system. However, sometimes this involves losing work or files. Whether it is a document, a file, or a download. Therefore, it is good to know alternative solutions. That is to say, measures before rebooting. This happens mostly when windows stop responding. Likewise when the mouse does not move. Or simply, the desktop freezes. Therefore, the solution is to restart the explorer. In fact, today you will learn how to quickly restart Windows 10 explorer.

How to restart the Windows 10 explorer.

It is well known that Windows has a large number of keyboard shortcuts. In fact, most of them are very convenient to use. Consequently, the most expedient way is by means of a keyboard shortcut. In this opportunity, we will use a classic one. Therefore, nothing better than using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Consequently, the task manager will be launched. Moreover, without any shell action. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if the interface or the explorer is dead. Just use this combination to start the task manager. So you can restart the interface. Even if the taskbar has disappeared.

On the other hand, we can also use CTRL+ALT+DEL. Then select the task manager. However, the previous shortcut is more direct. But when we get there, we have two options:

First, click on the Processes tab. Next, scroll down to Windows Processes. Now click on Windows Explorer. Finally, click on Restart

Restarting the file explorer in Windows 10.

But, we know that sometimes Windows can be difficult. Therefore, the mouse pointer may not work at all. So we will solve it just using keyboard shortcuts. Please follow the path below:

CTRL+SHIFT+ESC>ALT+A>N or Enter>explorer.exe+Enter

It may happen that the browser still does not work. Or the taskbar does not appear. Even the process does not appear in the task manager. In such a case, run the task manually. Accordingly, press the Win+R combination. This action will open the Run box. Once there, type explorer.exe and press Enter.

Starting Windows Explorer manually

Very well, in the last instance, we have learned how to quickly restart Windows 10 Explorer. A recommended action is to unclog the computer. In addition to allowing to continue working safely. See you later.

I have previously told you that I love to customize my system. Likewise, many users like to change the look of Windows 10. Also, the system provides several options to modify it. And without resorting to third-party applications. Indeed, we can change icons, wallpapers, and also taskbar icons. So, we can use various designs on this element. Which vary depending on the chosen configuration. So today we will see how to change the design of the Windows 10 taskbar icons.

Changing the design of Windows 10 taskbar icons.

We can choose different ways of designing the taskbar icons. In addition, this will respond to the applications that we have open. So we can use a minimalist design or another more rough or vintage. Well, the quickest way to get to these options is to right-click on the taskbar. Once there, please click on Taskbar Settings.

<img loading="lazy" width="588" height="714" src="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/task-2.png" alt="Entering the taskbar settings.
The options for the taskbar are immediately displayed. For example, we can minimize the size of the icons. In fact, just activate the Use small taskbar buttons switch.

Minimizing the size of the icons in the taskbar

There is another option to optimize space. We are talking about the option Show badges on taskbar buttons. In fact, this option allows you to deactivate the indicators of the number of notifications next to the icon. As a result, the number of pending notifications from the app is not displayed. You only have to deactivate the corresponding switch.

Combining taskbar buttons

Now let’s look at an option that allows you to make more profound changes. We are talking about combine the taskbar buttons. Clicking on it displays 3 different options. Consequently, we can select any of them. Please note that you can return at any time.

Combine taskbar buttons

Always, hide labels: This option provides a minimalist design. Moreover, it combines very well with small icons. With this pattern, the application icons will not show the names. Also, when you have several apps open, they will be grouped together. Ideal option for small screens.

When the taskbar is full: The icons of open applications show the name in a rougher box. Also, they will only be grouped together if they fill all the space on the Taskbar.

Never: This option causes all icons to show the name and never be grouped together. This version is similar to the design of previous editions of Windows. For example, Windows 7.

Finally, we can also edit and customize the icons of the taskbar. With this in mind, just follow the steps in this tutorial. Next, just drag the icon to the taskbar. Well, ultimately we have seen how to change the design of the Windows 10 taskbar icons. An excellent option to make better use of space. Or simply give a different touch to Windows. See you later!

One of the most characteristic elements of the operating system is the taskbar. Indeed, it is a quick way to access frequently used applications. In addition, it serves as quick access to basic Windows functions. However, there are times when it may not be convenient to have the taskbar always visible. Therefore, there is an option to hide it automatically. Since there are times when the fixed taskbar can be a nuisance. So hiding it automatically is a good alternative. This allows us to concentrate on the area of interest. For example, when we visualize a video or images. Consequently, today we will see how to automatically hide the taskbar in Windows 10.

How to automatically hide the taskbar.

There are several ways to automatically hide the taskbar. The most convenient way is through Windows Settings. With this in mind, press the Win+I combination. Once there, please click on Personalization.

Windows Settings>Personalization

A new screen will open immediately. Next, in the left column please click on Taskbar. This action will display the options available for this item. So in the right column check the option to Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode. To do this, just use the switch to be in On mode. In case you have a device with a touch screen, then enable the second option. Corresponding to Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode.

Hiding the taskbar automatically

From now on, the taskbar will remain hidden. Unless we pass the mouse over where the taskbar should be. Or also when receiving a notification. This action will cause the taskbar to show momentarily.

Using the command prompt

We can also use the command prompt to modify the behavior of the taskbar. To do this, the first thing to do is to press the Win+R combination. Then type cmd and press Enter.

Then run the following command:

powershell -command "& {$ p = 'HKCU: SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / StuckRects3'; $ v = (Get-ItemProperty -Path $ p) .Settings; $ v [8] = 3; & Set- ItemProperty -Path $ p -Name Settings -Value $ v; & Stop-Process -f -ProcessName explorer} "

From now on, the taskbar will be automatically hidden. So you will have more space available on the screen. In case you want to reverse the action, just run the following:

powershell -command "& {$ p = 'HKCU: SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / StuckRects3'; $ v = (Get-ItemProperty -Path $ p) .Settings; $ v [8] = 2; & Set- ItemProperty -Path $ p -Name Settings -Value $ v; & Stop-Process -f -ProcessName explorer} "

All right lastly, we have seen how to hide the taskbar in Windows 10. An excellent option to gain more space on the screen. See you later!

Hello! Explorer.exe is the explorer process of Windows 10. It is also the process in charge of managing the explorer and desktop. Indeed, it is in charge of the start menu, folders, icons, and taskbar. In short, it is a centralizing process. Which is very useful many times. However, when this process fails, it affects a large part of the graphical environment of the system. However, Microsoft is changing this situation and making the last element independent in the latest build. Find out that Windows 10 will assign the taskbar its own DLL file.

An evolution of the taskbar that will have its own DLL file.

Windows Sun Valley continues to amaze us with its new features. For the moment, a Twitter user gives us the scoop. Albacore is dedicated to periodically analyze the Windows code for changes. So he has noticed an interesting change in the latest Windows Insider build. Indeed, the taskbar has its own DLL file.

The taskbar is being moved from Explorer.exe into Taskbar.dll. Surreal to see this get relocated after decades. Right now Explorer still contains the code, but it's possible to switch to the DLL implementation. There's still some odd bugs such as semi-broken search box UI. pic.twitter.com/2gNqcDNTzp
— Albacore (@thebookisclosed) March 25, 2021

Albacore reporting his find

However, it seems that taskbar.dll is not functional yet. Since the taskbar code is still located in the explorer.exe process as well. However, the discoverer of this change assures that it is possible to switch to the DLL implementation. Nevertheless, some strange errors do occur. For example, the interface of the search box appears incomplete. This independence of the taskbar would imply a change of policy. That is, it is faster for Microsoft to make changes to the component and make it more reliable. Since it would not depend on the current macro process. For example, errors in a folder window would not impact the taskbar and vice versa.

So now you know, Windows 10 will assign the taskbar its own DLL file. If these changes materialize, they will be effective in the next major version of the operating system. We are referring to Windows 10 21H2. Which will include a visual renovation, currently known as Sun Valley. See you soon!

Hello! The taskbar is a fundamental element in Windows 10. In fact, it contains icons and accesses that are very useful for the performance of the system. For example, the start menu and search menu are located there. Besides the controls that indicate date, time, sound, language among others. It is also possible to set app icons to have them at hand. However, Windows is very rigid when it comes to customizing it. Personally, I love changing the look of my operating system. For this reason, today we will learn how to change the look of the Windows 10 taskbar.

Fully customize the look of the taskbar with TaskbarX.

As mentioned, Windows does not allow you to customize the taskbar. In short, what you have is what you see. That’s why TaskbarX appeared. This small application allows you to control the position of the icons on the taskbar. However, this is not its only function. For example, the app allows you to change the color, adjust the transparency level, choose between different styles, and even animations.

How TaskbarX works

The first thing you need to know is that the app has several download methods. There is a portable version compressed in ZIP format. This is free and does not require installation. There is also a paid version that can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. It has a value of just over 1 dollar which is charged to collaborate with the project. It is also distributed as a skin for Rainmeter. For this post, we will use the portable and free version. Once you have downloaded the file, you only have to unzip it in the location of your preference. For this post, we will use the portable and free version. Once you have downloaded the file, you only have to unzip it in the location of your preference. Once in the location, please double-click on the file TaskbarX Configurator.exe

Please run the TaskbarX Configurator.exe file

Configuring TaskbarX

As the name indicates, we will enter the configuration of the app. The first thing we are going to configure is the Style. Actually there are 6 different variables. The first is the default appearance, then it is completely transparent, transparent with gradient, opaque, blur and acrylic. The last two are quite similar, except that acrylic is more of an acrylic material style. This is a style that Microsoft has been implementing in Fluent’s transparency recently. Below you can choose the exact color for the bar, either solid or gradient.

It also allows you to choose to have it center automatically or not. It also allows you to remove the option to have the tray with the clock and date centered or not.

At the moment I show you the desktop with the custom taskbar
