<p>Hello! Without a doubt, the start menu is a fundamental part of Windows 10. In fact, it is practically the first stop when you turn on the system. For that reason, today we will solve what can be a serious problem. Specifically, the Windows 10 start menu is not working. This element has been an elementary part of Windows. However, let&#8217;s remember that Windows 8 was removed in its traditional form. Since the system was oriented to touch screens. This situation was criticized by many users. So much so, that the start menu partially returned in Windows 8.1. However, the start menu with its classic look is back in Windows 10. It is well known that this system maintains a policy of security updates. We have even shown you how to <a href="https://www.osradar.com/how-to-clean-and-organize-the-windows-10-start-menu/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">clean and organize</a> it. But sometimes, this menu can fail. Which is often very cumbersome. </p>

<h2>How to repair the windows start menu with Regedit.</h2>

<p>Windows do not have a specific tool to repair the startup menu. It is certainly a shortcoming of the system. And it is very likely to be added in the future. Therefore, as a first alternative, we will resort to the registry editor. As always, we recommend <a href="https://www.osradar.com/make-a-backup-of-the-windows-registry/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">backing up </a>the registry before proceeding. So the first thing you have to do is to press the Win+R combination to go to the run box. Once there, please run the <em>regedit </em>command.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start.png" alt="Opening the registry editor. " class="wp-image-30535" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /><figcaption>Opening the registry editor.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Then, go to the following path:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\Cache\DefaultAccount</pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="317" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-1024x317.png" alt="" class="wp-image-30536" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-1024x317.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-300x93.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-768x238.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-696x216.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3-1068x331.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start3.png 1136w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Next, right-click on Default Account and then select <strong>Delete.</strong> This action will delete all the configuration cache from the start menu. Consequently, you will be back to factory defaults.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="822" height="785" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start4.png" alt="" class="wp-image-30537" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start4.png 822w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start4-300x286.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start4-768x733.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start4-696x665.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></figure>

<h2>Restart the file explorer.</h2>

<p>Occasionally, problems with the file explorer can also damage the startup menu. So what we will do is restart it. To do this, it is necessary to open the task manager. With this in mind, press the combination Control+Shift+Esc. Please click on the Processes tab. Next, select File Explorer with the right mouse button. Finally, select <strong>Restart.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="909" height="591" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start5.png" alt="Restarting the file explorer. " class="wp-image-30538" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start5.png 909w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start5-300x195.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start5-768x499.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start5-696x453.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 909px) 100vw, 909px" /><figcaption>Restarting the file explorer.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Please wait a moment while the file explorer restarts. Then check to see if the problem has been resolved.</p>

<h2>Restart Cortana</h2>

<p>Some users have reported that Cortana has caused problems with the start menu. So another solution is to restart Cortana. This action can be done from the PowerShell. However, we must launch it with administrator privileges. With this in mind press the Win+X combination and select the corresponding option.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="273" height="614" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start6.png" alt="Launching a PowerShell with administrator privileges. " class="wp-image-30539" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start6.png 273w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start6-133x300.png 133w" sizes="(max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px" /><figcaption>Launching a PowerShell with administrator privileges.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Next, please run the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><strong>Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}</strong></pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="859" height="732" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start7.png" alt="" class="wp-image-30540" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start7.png 859w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start7-300x256.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start7-768x654.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/start7-696x593.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px" /></figure>

<p>Please note that this command takes several minutes to execute. Then restart the computer and check that the problem is fixed.</p>
