Hello! Today, the Internet has become an essential part of our lives. Indeed, a permanent connection to the network is almost essential to use a PC or a phone. The most common way to connect is through a Wi-Fi network. In fact, it makes it possible to have a connection without the need to connect any cables, since everything is done wirelessly. Therefore, if the problem arises that the wireless connection is disconnected randomly, it is possible to cause discomfort. Moreover, this type of connection is becoming more and more popular. Whether for work, study or leisure, it is the most convenient way to stay connected to the Internet. Over time, its signal capacity and speed have increased. As a result, it is no longer necessary to be connected to Ethernet to enjoy a good connection. Stay tuned to find out how to fix Wi-Fi disconnect in Windows.

Causes of Wi-Fi disconnects

Several Windows users have experienced Wi-Fi connection problems. Certainly, this can happen for a variety of reasons. Therefore, it is a fairly common error. As a result, disconnections occur, making it impossible to access the Internet. This annoying difficulty can occur for numerous reasons. Typically, it is caused by driver difficulties. Indeed, they may be damaged or outdated. Consequently, it is best to have updated drivers to correct errors, compatibility issues, etc. It may also be due to compatibility difficulties with the version of the operating system installed. Therefore, we should always have Windows up to date. Additionally, the power management can cause the failure.

Other causes may be related to too many users connected to the network. Furthermore, when we are out of range of the signal range. As for the hardware, it can be damaged to the connection cables or the modem’s firmware is outdated. However, in this post, we will focus on software-centric solutions.

How to solve this problem.

Next, we are going to see different actions that we can perform to put an end to the problems of random disconnection of our Wi-Fi network.

Upgrade the network adapter

As mentioned, this is a common cause of this problem. So, a damaged or outdated driver can impair the stability of the connection. Therefore, it is advisable to always have them at their latest version. This action can be executed from the device manager. The first thing you need to do is to open the device manager. With this in mind, press the Win+X combination and select the corresponding option. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Windows button.

Consequently, you will be redirected to the device manager. Consequently, it displays the section corresponding to the network adapters. Then select the Wi-Fi hardware and right-click on it. Please click on Update driver. Then choose Automatically search for drivers and let Windows update the drivers.

Upgrading the wireless network adapter driver

Occasionally, Windows cannot install the driver correctly. Consequently, we must perform the procedure manually. Assume that the wireless adapter is manufactured by Intel. Consequently, we must go to their website and download the corresponding driver. Once the drivers have been downloaded, we go through the above steps again. However, this time opt for manual driver installation.

Change network profile

Another reason for these automatic disconnections is related to the fact that a Wi-Fi network is marked as Public instead of Private. Consequently, it is advisable to change the configuration. Keep in mind that the most important thing is to maintain a correct configuration of the network settings. Otherwise, we may face these annoying problems. Consequently, what we will do is to go to the Windows Settings. With this in mind, press the Win+I combination. Once there, click on Update & Security.

Entering Windows settings

In the left menu, select Wi-Fi. Now, in the right column, click on Manage known networks.

Managing Wi-Fi networks

Next we will see the current Wi-Fi connection. Please click on it and select Properties.

Next, we will see several options for configuring the Wi-Fi network. What we must do is to change the profile to Private.

Entering the network adapter properties

In this way, we can see how to fix Wi-Fi disconnect in Windows

Change Power Management

Another possible cause of this problem may be due to the power management configuration. This may be a system issue. On the other hand, a power saving system may also be the cause. This is especially useful if you have a laptop and want to save energy when you are not using it. However, it can also cause automatic shutdown difficulties. To fix Wi-Fi disconnect in Windows, we can follow the following steps.

Once again, we have to go to the device manager. With this intention, press again the Win+X combination. Once there, again display the network adapters section. Right click again, but this time goes to the Properties.

Changing the network configuration from public to private.

Therefore, click on the Power Management tab. Then uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box. Click OK to save the changes and see if we get a more stable connection.

Reset Automatic WLAN Configuration

The Automatic WLAN Configuration service is responsible for connecting Windows to our router. In the case that it has some problem when starting, it can prevent the connection. Therefore, we can try to configure it to run automatically at startup. To accomplish this, we must press the keyboard shortcut Windows + R and launch the Run command. Here we write services.msc and press Enter.

Consequently, we will see a list of Windows services. Please scroll down to the bottom until you get the WLAN AutoConfig. Please double-click on it to access the properties.

What we want is to modify the startup type. With this in mind, click on the General tab. Once there, under Startup type, click on Automatic and press Apply and OK to save the changes. Finally, we restart the system and check if the connection drop problems have been solved.

Hello! Do you want to know the speed of your Internet connection at all times? This is possible by installing a tool like netspeedmonitor. Consequently, today we will unravel all the information about this type of utilities. Indeed, we will try to be as didactic as possible. Specifically, we will talk about 4 utilities used to monitor network speed in Windows. The first two are tools developed by third parties. The other two come integrated in the system. Anyway, we will see how to access them and get the most out of them for the system. However, first we will go deeper into the term needspeedmonitor. Then we will see how to monitor network speed in Windows.

What is a netspeedmonitor, and what is it for?

As its name suggests, netspeedmonitor is a tool that allows you to check the network speed of a specific connection. That is, a tool that shows at what speed the data sent and received by the network adapter is being transmitted. Obviously, this technology does not refer to a physical meter. It is actually a software that measures Internet connection statistics. There are many tools that monitor the network in real time. Fortunately, some of them are free:

Net Speed Meter. Free software available in the Windows 10 application store, the Microsoft Store.

DU Meter. A utility for viewing network speed at all times from various points on the screen. It is paid, but has a 30-day trial period.

Windows also has its tools to check the network speed:

Task Manager: The utility integrated in Windows 11 that allows you to consult practically all the performance statistics, including network statistics, on your computer.

Resource Monitor: Another application integrated in the operating system for which you will not have to spend a single euro. Its appearance is somewhat archaic.

How to install a monitor network speed in Windows

We have already explained what a network speed monitor is. Next we will see some alternatives to be installed in Windows.

Net Speed Meter

Net Speed Meter is a tool that you can get directly from the app store. With it, you will be able to activate the network speed monitor in a few clicks. To install it, just go to the Microsoft Store. From there, just enter the term Net Speed Meter, alternatively you can click directly on this link. Accordingly, just click on the Get button. You will immediately be redirected to the Microsoft Store.

Downloading Net Speed Meter

Once inside the store, once again click on Get. Then wait for the application to download and install. Now, click on Open to launch the application.

Opening the app

A black background box showing the data rate is displayed on the desktop. The green downward arrow refers to the download speed. On the other hand, the red up arrow indicates the data sending or uploading rate. You can leave Net Speed Meter in the desktop area, if you prefer. However, just drag it to any preferred location. It is also possible to pin it to the taskbar. With this in mind, right-click on the box and select Keep on taskbar.

Pinning the network monitor to the task bar

As a result, the monitor is moved to the taskbar. However, you should be aware that it is not locked, so it can still be moved freely.

Additional Net Speed Monitor options

Net Speed Monitor has other interesting options. Just right click to check them out. For example, you can measure the total connection speed. With this in mind, click on Test Speed.

Additional tools.

You will immediately see the panel ready to measure the network speed.

Measuring the actual connection speed

Another option is to take a screenshot to save the network speed statistics. Again, all you have to do is open the context menu and select the Take Screenshot option.

The Downloads’ directory will open immediately. This is where the screenshot is saved.

Location of the screenshot with the connection data

Du Meter is another alternative to check network bandwidth usage. Just download it from here.

Downloading Du Meter for Windows

After downloading, just install it like any other Windows program. Just follow the instructions in the wizard, and you are ready to go.

When you launch it for the first time, a wizard is displayed to better configure the application. The most striking features of the app are also listed.

Du Meter welcome screen

Please click next to check the different functions.

It is also possible to set a warning in case your provider gives you a maximum of megabytes of navigation.

Setting up an alert

Finally, we will be ready to launch the program.

In the lower-right corner of the screen, you will now have a netspeedmonitor in Windows. By clicking on it, you can select whether you want to see the graph of the speed of the Internet, the local network or the programs.

Using the task manager.

The task manager serves multiple functions. One of them is to monitor the Windows network connection speed. With this in mind, press the Control+Shift+Esc combination to open it. Once there, click on the Performance tab. Next, scroll down and click on the currently active connection. You will then see the current status of the network connection speed.

Monitoring the connection speed with the task manager

Resource monitor

The last option we propose to measure the speed of the network connection in Windows is through the Resource Monitor. There are many ways to open it, however one of the easiest is from the Task Manager itself. Specifically, from the Performance tab.

Opening the resource monitor

Next, you need to expand the Network tab. From there you will see the network statistics. The design is a bit clumsy, but fully functional.

Checking the network connection speed with the resource monitor.

Very well, in this way we have seen how to monitor network speed in Windows. As you can see, we explore different possibilities. That is, with third-party solutions and with Windows own tools as well. See you later!

Today, we will learn how to enable SNMP service in Windows 10. SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol. Actually, this function facilitates the exchange of management information between network devices. Devices that can support SNMP include routers, switches, servers, workstations, printers, modem racks, among others. SNMP is a component of the Internet Protocol suite. It consists of a set of standards for network management. It also includes a protocol application layer and a schema database. Finally, it also manages a set of data objects.

How to enable SNMP in Windows 10

As you can see, it is a useful service to configure. Therefore, if your system does not have this feature, we can enable it from PowerShell. The first thing we have to do is to check the availability in the system. To complete this, you need to go to Windows services. With this in mind, press the Win+R combination. Next, run the services.msc command.

Running the services.msc command

Consequently, the list of services available in the system will be displayed. Just browse and verify.

List of services available in Windows 10

Another way to check the availability of SNMP is through the Windows features. Pay attention to how to do it. Once again, press the Win+R combination to invoke the run box. Once there, run the command appwiz.cpl.

Executing this command will open the Programs and Features window. Once there, please click on Turn Windows features on or off, which is located on the left side of the window.

Turn windows features on or off.

Consequently, a new window will open. It displays the optional Windows features. Therefore, here you can search for the SNMP feature.

Checking the optional Windows features.

If it does not appear, do not worry. In the next section, we will give you the solution.

Using PowerShell to enable it.

The first thing you have to do is to launch PowerShell as administrator. With this in mind, right-click on the start button. You can also press the Win+X combination. Either way, just click on the required option.

Launching a PowerShell with administrator privileges.

In the console, it is also possible to see if the SNMP service is installed. With this in mind, run the following command:

Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP*"

Querying SNMP status via PowerShell

If you look at the status line, you can see that the service is not present. Therefore, we will proceed to download and install it. With this in mind, we will use the following command:

Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP.Client~~~~0.0.1.0"

Pressing enter will start the installation of the service.

Today we will learn how to know the maximum speed of the network adapters in Windows 10. Similarly, we will measure the capacity of the Bluetooth adapter, if present. Knowing this information is important for certain cases. It also allows us to deepen our knowledge of the hardware. Read on to find out how to do it.

Checking the maximum speed of network devices with PowerShell.

In this opportunity we will show you two ways to achieve it. First, we will use PowerShell. It is well known that this element allows you to execute commands. Don’t worry, we will do a very quick and easy check. First of all, you need to run PowerShell. Moreover, it is not necessary to run it with administrator privileges. With this in mind, just press Win+X and select the corresponding option:

Launching PowerShell

Then run the following command:

Get-NetAdapter

If you encounter problems with this command, then run this alternative:

Get-NetAdapter | select interfaceDescription, name, status, linkSpeed

In any case, PowerShell will output all the data we are interested in. That is, the WiFi, Ethernet and Bluetooth cards. Additionally, the name and the maximum transfer rate are displayed. Furthermore, the speed is displayed in megabytes per second. Which is a simple measurement to interpret. Finally, we will see the Mac address of each device.

Finding out the maximum speed of network devices in Windows 10.

Checking these values from the Windows settings.

We will also be able to obtain this information from Windows Settings. However, we will only find out about the one we are using. With this intention, press the Win+X combination to go to Windows Settings. Now click on Network & Internet.

Consequently, the connection options will be displayed. Please click on Hardware Properties.

Entering the connection properties

Consequently, we will see a lot of data related to the connection. Among them, the total speed of the connection.

Hello! Without any wealth there are more and more devices connected to the network. Indeed, the list keeps growing. Since many household devices are using the internet of things. Additionally, inside the computer there are many apps that also connect to the network. Consequently, connectivity can suffer. In that sense, today we will see which programs are using the Internet in Windows 10.

Why is it useful to know which programs are connected to the Internet?

It is well known that Windows 10 is the most used OS worldwide. Therefore, there is a high availability of compatible apps and software. Moreover, most of these elements need the internet to work. Consequently, it is important to know which of them are connected to the network. This is important, because if you have a poor connection, then they can slow it down. In addition, it is also convenient to prevent any safety problems. Indeed, some Trojans could be infected on the computer. Therefore, enter through a back door and control the computer via the network. Many of these threats can collect data and execute commands arbitrarily. And ultimately put the stability and security of the system at risk.

For this reason, it is very important to know which programs are connected to the Internet. Fortunately, it is a simple procedure. In addition, it is not necessary to use third-party applications.

How to see what programs are using the internet.

In Windows 10 there are several programs that display network information. In addition, these tools indicate which app is connected to the Internet. Let’s see some of them.

Task Manager

One of the easiest ways to know which program is connected to the Internet is by using the task manager. In fact, you just need to press the combination Ctrl+Shift+Esc to invoke it. Once there, essential aspects are shown. For example, there are the processes and programs initiated. Besides the use of the disk and the RAM memory. But it is also possible to see the section network.

Task manager showing the apps that consume internet.

Once there you can see the apps that are using the connection. The measurement is in Mbps. Additionally it is possible to order them from higher to lower.

Resource Monitor

Within the task manager, please click on the connection used. Then click on Open resource monitor

Opening the resource monitor

A new window will be displayed immediately. Once there it is possible to determine which programs are using the network.

Resource monitor showing processes connected to the internet

With this option, the processes connected to the Internet are displayed. To be able to control them efficiently.

Conclusion

In this way it is possible to know which programs are using the internet in Windows 10. We also show two options to do so. Please note that this info is very important. Since it is possible to monitor the access in real time. This way you can detect possible intrusions. It is also a simple process to do. We recommend doing it regularly. All right, that’s it for now! Bye!

Hello! There is no doubt that the number of devices connected to the network is increasing all the time. Indeed, it is no longer just traditional devices. Because now the Internet of things is booming. Consequently, it is interesting to know that you are connected at all times. To visualize what the network consumption is and to be able to optimize it. In this way it is possible to reduce problems. Currently there are many programs available. However, today we will talk about Network Manager, the app for monitoring the network in Windows 10.

Network Manager, a tool for managing connections in Windows 10

The first thing you need to know is that this is a free tool. However, it is very complete and intuitive. It is an open source app that allows you to monitor your network adapters in a simple way. In addition, it allows making other configurations. It also offers detailed information about each network interface. For example, IPv4 protocol, IPv6, MAC address, etc. In this way, specific connection data is obtained. And consequently, use it to determine settings.

It also allows you to configure the parameters of various network interfaces. Indeed, you can include IP addresses, DNS and different metrics to organize everything in an optimal way. But the most attractive thing is to manage Windows networks in a simple way.

How to use Network Manager

We have already mentioned that this is a multi-platform, free, open source program. Also, as an attraction no installation is needed. In fact, you just need to download the latest version from here and start it. After downloading the file, simply unzip it and run the executable file. You will immediately see a small window with some basic data. For example, the IP address of the network card we are using, as well as the public IP address. Also, the download and upload speed is shown, with a small graph.

Network Manager running on Windows 10.

Clicking on the configuration icon opens the Control Panel. There is more complete information about the connection. Since it provides data regarding the MAC address of the network card, IP address, the adapter, etc.

Network Mana Control Panel

By entering the interface configuration, profiles can be created. Indeed, it is possible to create one with the OpenDNS DNS or any of your preference. There are also practical functions such as subtracting TCP/IP values.

Profile configuration in Network Manager.

Other interesting features in Network Manager

It is possible to configure the behavior in the tools section. For example, set it to be launched at system startup or always visible. You can also set the time span of the graph. It is also possible to configure the auto update. In short, Network Manager is a great option for monitoring the Windows 10 network connection. And it also allows you to make changes and configurations. All from the same free and portable app. Bye!

Hello! Sometimes problems occur that affect network connections. Sometimes these failures can be simply due to a bad configuration. Also, the failure may be caused by an out-of-date driver or system-wide problems. Consequently, the user can use various tools and methods to check that everything is in order. In today’s post, we will see how to solve network problems in Windows 10 with the Netstat command.

What is Netstat?

This is a tool to be used through the command line. It also allows to monitor the networks and also to be able to solve certain problems that may arise. Additionally, it offers detailed information of the connections of our device through the terminal. Its name comes from Network and Statistics. Therefore, it basically provides network statistics. In addition, it also provides data related to open ports and addresses. On the other hand, this tool is integrated in both Windows and GNU/Linux. Consequently, it can be used on both operating systems. As mentioned above, it is used via command and has no graphical interface.

Netstat utility.

Certainly this command provides data on network usage. However, Netstat can be used to solve some network problems.

Using Netstat to solve network problems in Windows 10

To use Nestat on Windows 10, you need to open a command prompt with administrator privileges. With this intention, type CMD in the search bar and select the option.

Running a CMD as an administrator.

Once there, simply type in Netstat and press Enter.

Netstat command running on Windows 10.

All active connections of the device will be displayed immediately. The first column shows the protocol type (TCP or UDP). The second column shows the IP addresses and network interface ports for connections. It is also possible to view the IP addresses and ports for remote connections. Additionally, the command indicates whether the connection is active or closed. On the other hand, the process of charging the connections may take a few minutes depending on the quantity.

This command displays instantaneous information. That is, it is a data of a given moment. However, it is possible to program the command to be executed from time to time. For this please use the following syntax:

netstat -n S

Please remember to replace S with the number of seconds to update. For example, to update the command every 8 seconds please use the following:

netstat -n 8

Some Nestat commands.

With Netstat it is possible to solve some problems that may arise with the network connection. Indeed, there are different usage parameters. Let’s look at the most commonly used parameters to find specific network details. Please note, that all as commands begin with netstat. The only thing that varies is the parameter:

–a: allows you to know all the networks that are active or inactive. Consequently, it is possible to detect possible problems affecting a network.

–e: This command displays statistics on incoming and outgoing network packets on a network card.

–f: It displays the full domain name of remote addresses.

–n: This time the port numbers are displayed instead of the connection names.

-o: It displays the ID of each process at each connection.

–p: With this command we can filter connections according to the desired protocol. Example:

netstat –p TCP

-q: consult the linked listening and non-listening ports

-s: displays group statistics by protocol. This way we can classify networks according to the available protocols: TCP, UDP, ICMP, IPv4 or IPv6.

-r: This command displays the routing table of the current network.

-t: provides information about connections in the download state.

-x: In this case we can get information about all NetworkDirect connections.

In this way we have seen how to solve network problems in Windows 10 with the Netstat command. Now you have one more tool to control the connections in the system. See you later!

Hello! Windows 10 is an operating system that integrates various protocols to ensure its use with internal and external processes. Indeed, one of these protocols is Server Message Block, better known as SMB. This is a mechanism that allows network file sharing. In addition, it is integrated by a set of message packages that allow us to define which version of the protocol is to be used. Therefore, it is possible to share files, printers, and data on a local network. SMB is available in versions SMB1 or SMB2. And each one has its own characteristics. Similarly, in Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Professional editions, SMBv1 is already disabled. Consequently, only in these versions, only SMB2 is offered. So it’s important to know how to enable and disable SMB1/SMB2 in Windows 10.

Main advantages of SMB

This protocol also allows communication between Windows and Linux operating systems. On the other hand, it also has the following advantages:

Printing on a local network

Extended file attribute management

Unicode support

File, directory and shared access authentication

Benefits of SMB2

In addition to the features present in its predecessor, this protocol incorporates new functions:

Improvements in the use of the network

More complete readings and writings

MTU Support

Oplock customer lease model

Soporta versiones anteriores de SMB

How to turn SMB1 on or off in Windows 10 using PowerShell.

First, check if SMB1 is active. With this intention, it opens a PowerShell with administrator privileges. To do this, press the Win+x combination and select the app from the list.

Runs a PowerShell with administrative privileges

Then run this command:

Get-WindowsOptionalFeature –Online –FeatureName SMB1Protocol

To disable SMB1 please run the following:

Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName SMB1Protocol

To enable it, just execute the following command. Also, press Y to restart the computer and confirm the changes.

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName SMB1Protocol

How to turn SMB2 on or off in Windows 10 using PowerShell.

As with SMB1, this time we will also use PowerShell with administrator privileges. First, check the service status with the following command:

Get-SmbServerConfiguration | Select EnableSMB2Protocol

To disable SMB2 please run:

Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableSMB2Protocol $false

Please note that you must confirm the operation:

To activate the protocol, please run it:

Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableSMB2Protocol $true

Once again, you must confirm the action:
