Windows 10 20H2 has been released as a minor operating system update. As a result, it has managed to reduce platform errors. In addition, it has encouraged users to install it with the consequent decrease in the fragmentation of Windows 10.

New Microsoft update release policy.

Indeed, Microsoft has adopted a Windows as a Service policy for the development of its flagship operating system. In other words, two major annual updates have been scheduled in rolling release mode. As some GNU/Linux distributions do. This methodology has the advantage of keeping the system updated in functions and new technologies. However, it also has drawbacks.

On the other hand, Microsoft has been unable to maintain this development model. Among other reasons, because updates sometimes cause errors that can be serious. Therefore, users choose to maintain older but stable versions. This causes the fragmentation of the system. For this reason, the Redmond giant has chosen to recover the service pack model for the second annual update. All this to improve performance and stability. Although the errors persist, they are not as many or as serious as in previous years. In addition, the gradual distribution of updates seems to regain the confidence of users.

Windows 10 fragmentation is reduced

The latest version Windows 10 20H2 is already installed on 9% of computers. A much faster adoption than previous versions. On the other hand, Windows 10 2004, has increased to 37.6% and has become the most used version.

Windows 10 v1909 still has 36.4% of the market. However, it has dropped quite a bit in the last two months, just like the previous editions. With respect to Windows Insider, it varies according to version between 0.5 and 1%. That’s where many errors come from that can be fixed before the release of the stable versions.

Good news because it means that the quality of software has been improved. Additionally, two annual feature updates are not required. Obviously, a stable and safe system is preferable. On the other hand, comparisons are often hateful. However, Apple represents a serious rival for Microsoft and Google. Inasmuch as, Android is the worst system in terms of fragmentation. Well, Cupertino’s company only releases one annual update for macOS and iOS.

For now, Windows does not yet adopt this policy. However, lately the updates have not been as harmful as before. Since in short, Microsoft has reduced the fragmentation in Windows 10. In this way, Microsoft pleasantly surprises its users. All right, that’s it for now.
