<p>You may find the title of this post confusing. In fact, if you have only one operating system installed, then this is not for you! However, sometimes some users have more than one version of Windows installed on their computer. Or even GNU/Linux or macOS versions. Well, in those cases it is advisable to have multiboot properly configured. That is to say, a boot manager that allows choosing the system with which we want to start. Well, in this post we will see how to change the default boot system in <a href="https://www.osradar.com/category/windows/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windows 10.</a></p>

<h2>How to modify the default boot system in Windows 10.</h2>

<p>If you have more than one operating system installed on your computer, you will probably see a screen like this.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-1024x576.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-28605" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>In this case, Windows 7 is the default system configured to boot. Well, let&#8217;s see how to modify this aspect. First, press the Win+R combination to open the Run dialog box. Once there, run the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">msconfig</pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot2.png" alt="" class="wp-image-28606" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot2.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot2-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>

<p>In the next window, please select the Boot tab. Once there you will see the installed operating systems. Also, which of them boot by default. Therefore, just choose the desired system and set it as default. It is also possible to set the timeout period for booting. When you are ready, press OK. You will probably see a warning sign asking you to reboot to set the changes. Or simply exit without restarting.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped"><ul class="blocks-gallery-grid"><li class="blocks-gallery-item"><figure><img loading="lazy" width="571" height="403" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot3.png" alt="" data-id="28607" data-full-url="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot3.png" data-link="https://www.osradar.com/?attachment_id=28607" class="wp-image-28607" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot3.png 571w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot3-300x212.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px" /></figure></li><li class="blocks-gallery-item"><figure><img loading="lazy" width="347" height="143" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot4.png" alt="" data-id="28608" data-full-url="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot4.png" data-link="https://www.osradar.com/?attachment_id=28608" class="wp-image-28608" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot4.png 347w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot4-300x124.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 347px) 100vw, 347px" /></figure></li></ul></figure>

<h2>Choose Operating System when booting Windows 10 from Startup and Recovery</h2>

<p>This is another option available to modify the boot order of Windows. With this intention, press once again the Win+R setting to open the run box. Once there, please run the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">sysdm.cpl</pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot5.png" alt="" class="wp-image-28609" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot5.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot5-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>

<p>Next, select the <strong>Advanced</strong> tab. Then scroll down to <strong>Startup and Recovery.</strong> Please click on <strong>Settings</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="412" height="485" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot6.png" alt="Entering the system properties. " class="wp-image-28610" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot6.png 412w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot6-255x300.png 255w" sizes="(max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px" /><figcaption>Entering the system properties.</figcaption></figure>

<p>The default operating system is shown there. It is also possible to configure the timeout. Just select the operating system and click on OK.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="476" height="557" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot7.png" alt="Setting the default operating system. " class="wp-image-28611" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot7.png 476w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/boot7-256x300.png 256w" sizes="(max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px" /><figcaption>Setting the default operating system.</figcaption></figure>

<h2>How to edit the bootloader with third-party tools.</h2>

However, it can also be used to manually choose the default operating system. This program can be downloaded free of charge for personal use from <a href="https://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here.</a> After installation, please click on the Edit Boot Menu tab.
