ScreenStyler is a free tool that is still in the beta phase. Therefore, it is likely that some bugs will appear. In addition, new features will be added soon. However, its current features are very interesting. So it is worth taking a look at them. Basically, what the app does is modify the appearance of Windows 10. Therefore, it is possible to design the desktop to the user’s liking. To do this we can change aspects such as:

It’s Canta, not “Santa”, folks! Here comes a really unique theme that’s based on the material design. Instead of the classic coloring, this one comes up with lime green, white and a dark shade of black with Apple-style window buttons.

The theme is available on the GTK2 and GTK3 based desktop environments, so includes the major ones like GNOME, Xfce, MATE, Budgie etc.

• Vimix

Material themes come up with only a couple of colors, right? Then, how about a big combo of colors?

Yes, that’s what Vimix offers to you. It’s a flat, material design theme that grants you the wish of your favorite colors (gray, blue, red, green and much more). It’s based on the famous Material theme and supports all the desktop environments using GTK3 and higher (GNOME, Cinnamon etc.).

• Paper

This is one of the ancient themes of the starting of the Material craze. Unlike Adapta, Paper offers a better approach towards the core of the material theme. The theme offers a wide variety of bold colors as well.

The overall design is pretty similar to the Android’s Flat look while carefully following the Google Design guidelines.

You can enjoy Paper on any desktop environment that uses a reasonably up-to-date version of GTK3. Get Paper from the official site.

• Material

Material offers the classic look and feel of the material design. It comes up in 3 color variations. It’s more popular due to its rich animation effects, cleaner design and the sharp following of the material guidelines.

Material is also celebrated as one of the well-supported Linux themes of all. You can enjoy the theme on any environment that comes up with GTK 3.20 or higher. More interestingly, the theme comes up in the Flatpak format!

Qogir is a GTK theme. That’s why you have to make sure that your system contains the GTK theme engines and other dependencies.

Flat-Remix is a pretty simple icon theme inspired by material design. It can be installed on all Linux distributions that use GNOME as a desktop environment. It is also released under the GPLv3 license, which guarantees that you can modify and reuse it.

In addition, the theme is available in several versions (Main, Dark, Light) as well as an icon theme and for GNOME Shell.

As can been noted, the last stable version of this complete theme is 1.32 which was released a few days ago. In this new version, some bugs have been fixed and some icons have been updated.

Install Flat-Remix Icon set on any Linux Distribution

If you want to install Flat-Remix in any Linux distribution, I have the good news that is quite simple.

In the first place, you have to install git to clone the Git repository of the project. Open a Terminal, and then, type:

:~$ sudo apt install git

Now you can clone the first repository (icon set), to do it, run:

:~$ git clone https://github.com/daniruiz/flat-remix

Second, clone the other repository (GTK theme).

:~$ git clone https://github.com/daniruiz/flat-remix-gtk

The only thing left to do is to create the local folder where the theme will be.

:~$ mkdir -p ~/.icons && mkdir -p ~/.themes

Then, copy the contents of the cloned folder into the new one.

:~$ cp -r flat-remix/Flat-Remix* ~/.icons/ && cp -r flat-remix-gtk/Flat-Remix-GTK* ~/.themes/

Finally, open gnome-tweaks-tool and in the appearance section, choose the new theme.

Conclusion

Today, let’s cater ourselves with Oranchelo – an awesome icon theme pack. This theme pack is easier to install and enjoy for anyone.

Downloading Oranchelo

This theme officially supports Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux, openSUSE etc. major Linux distros. If your Linux system wasn’t there, don’t worry. There’s also a generic method to follow.

Much like the Adapta, Evopop is also inspired by the Material design that looks very snappy and modern. However, the theme is no longer under development as Solus has moved towards Adapta. But it’s still worth taking a look today.

For enjoying the awesome Evopop theme, you have to be using GNOME desktop environment. If your desktop environment is compatible with GTK version 3.20 or higher, this theme should also work just fine.

Installing the theme

There are 2 possible ways that you can enjoy the theme. First is to install it directly using the built-in script and second is to build the theme from source. At first, install it from the default script.

Installing with script

Run this command for downloading the complete Evopop theme with the source.

git clone https://github.com/solus-project/evopop-gtk-theme.git
cd evopop-gtk-theme

Now, run these commands for installing Evopop system-wide.

sudo ./install-gtk-theme.sh

If you’re a user of Geary email client, don’t forget to activate Evopop for that, too.

./install-geary-fix.sh

If you’re willing for enjoying Evopop Azure, run this command as well.

./install-gtk-azure-theme.sh

Now, all you have to do is activate the theme from your system’s theme option.

Building from source

It’s an easier method of enjoying the theme irrespective to almost any Linux distros. Run the command(s) according to your distro for the prerequisite tools.

• Ubuntu

sudo apt install git autotools

• Debian

sudo apt-get install git autotools

• Arch Linux

sudo pacman -S git autotools

• OpenSUSE

sudo zypper install git autotools

• Fedora

sudo dnf install git autotools

Download the source code of the theme.

git clone https://github.com/solus-project/evopop-gtk-theme.git
cd evopop-gtk-theme

Prepare the critical files of the theme. Don’t MISS this step!

./autogen.sh

When everything is complete, start building Evopop theme’s code.

sudo make

Once the building is complete, install the theme in your system.

sudo make install

There are also other great themes to try out – Arc, Paper, Vimix etc.

Even if the theme is installed successfully, it’s still not activated. You have to activate it from your distro’s theme settings. There are lots of available desktop environments, but the most popular ones are GNOME, XFCE4, and KDE.

The easiest way to find out the proper option is to search from the “Apps” menu. After activating, enjoy the awesome Arc theme.

Prerequisites

In this tutorial, the theme will be built from the source. This way, you can get the latest version of the theme without any trouble. Before installing the theme, you have to prepare your system so that it can properly support the theme.

Run the following command(s) according to your Linux distro.

• Ubuntu

sudo apt install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk2-engines-pixbuf git autoconf

• Debian

sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk2-engines-pixbuf git autoconf

• OpenSUSE

sudo zypper install gtk-murrine-engine gtk2-engines git autoconf

• Fedora

sudo dnf install gtk-murrine-engine gtk2-engines git autoconf

• Arch Linux

sudo pacman -S gtk-engine-murrine gtk-engines git autoconf

If your system wasn’t listed here, you should search and install these items for proceeding further – “Git”, “GTK murrine engine”, “GTK engines” and “Autoconf”.

Building the theme from source

After all the dependencies are installed successfully, it’s time to download and build the theme from scratch.

Get the latest code of the theme from GitHub:

git clone https://github.com/snwh/paper-gtk-theme.git

Change the working directory:

cd paper-gtk-theme

Now, the building process begins. Run the “autogen.sh” script. It’ll check your system and generate all the necessary files for the final building process.

./autogen.sh

There’s another script called “configure”. It’s generated by “autogen.sh”. Run this script for finishing what “autogen.sh” started.

./configure

After everything is alright, it’s time to build. Run this command for starting the compilation process:

make

“make” will configure and complete the building process. Now, run this command for installing the theme. It’ll be installed system-wide.

sudo make install

Icon pack

If you want, you can enjoy the awesome icon pack of Paper theme. The process is also the same for building and installing the icon pack. Run these commands for installing the icon pack.

./autogen.sh
./configure
make

sudo make install

Today, let’s take a look at openDesktop – the awesome app for installing & managing tons of themes from different sources.

Downloading openDesktop

In order to use the application, you have to download the software in your system. The program is available as an AppImage, meaning that it’s portable and can be used in any version of Linux.

Download openDesktop. Assuming that your download is saved in the “Downloads” folder, let’s mark the file as executable.

cd ~/Downloads

chmod +x opendesktop

Using openDesktop

Now, you can double-click the AppImage file and start browsing through the vast collection of different icons, cursors, themes etc.

Double-click and run the app. You’ll find lots of available themes, icons and other customizability options out there.

How to install the theme(s)

In order to install a theme, browse through the collection and open your favorite one. For example, I wish to install this “Droid Shell” theme.

Scroll down and click on the “Files” tab.

Now, click on the OCS-Install section next to the proper download option. Don’t worry; you can try out other downloads and easily uninstall the old ones.

After the download is complete, click on the “Installed” option from the top bar.

From here, you can easily manage your theme – activate, deactivate or remove anything you want.

Desktop environment oriented option

If you want to filter the theme for more compatibility with your system, you can change the homepage to other pages like GNOME-Look, XFCE-Look etc.
