Introduction

For the last few days, I was looking for some chat app for my office. Suddenly, I notice a new chat app i.e. PUMBLE.

I can guarantee that Pumble is a newly emerging team chat app. Though, a lot of big players are already in the market. But, when I went through the features of that chat app, I immediately started deploying it for my organization. Let’s discuss the features, pros, and cons of Pumble.

What is Pumble?

During this pandemic situation, maximum of the organization are preferring work from home. Lots of paid applications are there already. Pumble can give a really tough competition to its competitors. And, the reason is the flowless ness and features of that product

1. Familiar interface.

I would just say, the user interface almost looks like MS Teams R. So, new users will not face any difficulty while using it. Very sleek icons, quick to set up, and lightweight application.

2. Personalized channels

Teams can easily collaborate by creating team level channels. Users can chat and share data quickly.

3. Multiple themes

Themes can be preferred. Dark or light themes are available.

3. Easy to setup

A very simple to install application, sign up, download and start using it.

4. Multiple platform support.

Application is for MS Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux. Which makes that platform even more effective and easy to use.

5. Centralized control via admin panel.

A very rich admin panel, where you can manage, edit, or remove users. You can invite team members via admin panel.

Pros and Cons

I would personally recommend to use that tool, based upon pros of Pumble. As per my personal following are

pros:

Quick to set up, even no techie can set up Pumble quickly.

Free of cost application.

Easy data sharing, users can quickly share data.

Quick customer support, I personally drop an email to the support team and got a response within 5 min.

Standard interface, no experiments are done with application and straight interface.

Cons:

No calling and video features. Though Pumble is claiming to start call and video chat features soon.

Lagging at first time installation. Users may face challenges while installing that application first time. The screen got freeze and can remain idle for a while.

Every time when you log in to a desktop application, it always sends an email to get a login. It should not be there and the application must get login via providing creds.

In this blog, we have emphasized the importance of team communications. Because we are in a globalized world where more and more projects are getting bigger and bigger. Also because thanks to the internet the participants are not physically in the same place. And this requires fluidity in private conversations. We commented all this when we taught you about Slack, now we have one more alternation. Therefore, today we will show you Zulip an excellent alternative to Slack for your team communications.

Zulip is an open source tool similar to Slack that allows group chats in a team. The main difference with Slack is that it is open source. Zulip is one of the fastest growing Open Source applications with many contributors to the projects. It is released under the Apache 2.0 license which guarantees that we can examine its source code. On the other hand, Zulip adds threaded and topical conversations within the conversation channels. This makes it even more efficient.

The main advantage of Zulip against Slack and other similar applications is that it takes advantage of the benefits of asynchronous communication. The program allows you to combine real-time chat with asynchronous communication. This is important because if at that moment, a member of the team is not online, he can read and track the messages easily. All this thanks to the fact that in Zulip each channel has a topic so each message has a specific objective. Topics hold Zulip conversations together, just like subject lines hold email conversations together

On the other hand, the application boasts a lot of integration since it can be integrated with more than 100 applications. Including the very popular Dropbox, Gmail, Google Calendar and many others.

Install Zulip an alternative to Slack

The Zulip client application is quite simple to download, it is offered for various systems such as Windows, MacOS and for Android and iOS mobile platforms. So to do it, it is necessary to write these commands in a terminal:

:~$ wget https://github.com/zulip/zulip-electron/releases/download/v2.3.82/Zulip-2.3.82-x86_64.AppImage

1.- Download and install Zolip an alternative to Slack

Next, set execute permissions to the file.

:~$ chmod +x Zulip-2.3.82-x86_64.AppImage

As we can see, we downloaded a .AppImage file. Just open the file browser and double click to open it.

2.- Running Zulip

So we can create a new organization and configure Zulip to our liking.

Conclusion

There are many applications today. The great advantage of this is that by categories we find several that favor competition and benefits users. Today Zulip e wants to show as a serious alternative to Slack adding improvements and new concepts.

I recommend you to visit the website of the project and get more details of the application.

Please share this article with your friends.

The Internet has replaced a great revolution in the field of work. Many jobs and projects are carried out by people who are not physically close. With this in mind, organizations need to have software capable of satisfying this problem. So, in this post, we present Slack a tool for team communication.

Slack is an application to develop communications within an organization. Or even, for teams within one. In addition, it has several features for offering a powerful center for information exchange between many people related to the project.

Slacks

Some Features

To organize team communications efficiently, Slack implements channels that label a conversion with a #.

In addition, it is possible to access a history of conversations to search through common words. Excellent, not to lose sight of valuable information about our project.

Slack Brings important information and alerts into relevant channels by connecting services like Zendesk, Salesforce, JIRA, and more.

All these and other characteristics have one thing in common, security. Slack uses strong encryption protocols so that your communications are not intercepted, including SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and HIPAA.

Team communication importance

In this new era, projects require even more than their members have clear project requirements. In addition, we are in a hurry to offer innovation, so that not much time can be wasted on communications.

So, the organization is the key to team communication so that all information and interaction can be developed effectively and smoothly.

A great team communication ensures that the project is successful, something vital in a company.

How to install Slack on Linux

Slack is a great investment for your organization and projects. As I said before, you should not underestimate the value of communications within a team. So, install it on Linux.

The easiest way to do it in Ubuntu is through snap. This packaging system developed by Canonical means you don’t have to worry about libraries. However, you can also install it using the .deb package in Debian and derivatives such as LMDE.

If you use Fedora, CentOS or OpenSUSE, don’t worry that there is also a .RPM package so you can do it in your favorite distribution without complications.

First, open a Terminal and run:

For Ubuntu 17.10, 18.04. 18.10:

:~$ sudo snapd install slack --classic

If you want to download it on Debian 9:

:~$ wget https://downloads.slack-edge.com/linux_releases/slack-desktop-3.3.3-amd64.deb -O slack.deb

1.- Download Slack
