We are going to explain how to make a program start automatically when you turn on your Windows 11 computer. You probably already know how to make a program not run when you start Windows. However, now we are going to do the opposite. Indeed, you may have a particular program or application that you always use. But also, it does not have the option to launch at startup. Therefore, we will tell you how to do this manually. Also, without having to touch anything in any configuration.

How to Automate Program Launch on Windows 11 Startup

The first thing you need to do is to open Windows File Explorer. Here, you have to activate the option to view hidden files and folders. With this in mind, click on the View button on the top bar. Next, and in the menu that opens, click on Show. Finally, choose the option of Hidden elements that will appear at the bottom.

Once you have done this, you have to navigate to the folder of programs that run at startup. With this in mind, in the file explorer you can directly paste the address:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup,

Before proceeding, you now have to create the shortcut to the program you want to start next to the PC on the desktop. Windows will not let you create the shortcut in the startup folder. Therefore, you have to do it somewhere else first. To make the shortcut, drag the .exe executable of the program to the desktop by holding down the right mouse button. Finally, when you release it, choose the option Create shortcut icons here.

Now, simply move that shortcut to the Home folder that you have open in the file explorer. When you do so, Windows will ask for administrator permissions to move the folder, and you will have to grant them by clicking on the Continue button.

And that’s it. All the shortcuts of this folder will be executed with the beginning of session, just when you turn on Windows. Just remember that the more applications you add, the slower Windows will start up. Consequently, it is not advisable to abuse this function.

Some benefits of having programs start up with Windows

There are several benefits to making a program start with Windows:

Save time. You can save time by having your program start automatically when you turn on your computer. This means that you don’t have to remember to start it manually every time you want to use it.

Ensure that your program is always running. If you have a program that you need to run all the time, such as an antivirus program or a file backup program, you can ensure that it is always running by making it start with Windows. This way, you don’t have to worry about it not being running when you need it.

Perform tasks automatically. You can use your program to perform tasks that you need to do regularly, such as checking for updates or backing up your files. By making your program start with Windows, you can ensure that these tasks are always done, even if you forget to do them yourself.

Monitor your computer for problems. You can use your program to monitor your computer for difficulties, such as viruses or malware. By making your program start with Windows, you can ensure that it is always running and can quickly detect and take action on any issues that arise.

Control other devices on your network. You can use your program to control other devices on your network, such as printers or media players. By making your program start with Windows, you can ensure that it is always running and can quickly control any devices that you need to.

In this way we have seen how to include programs in Windows 11 startup. Bye!

The Windows 10 start menu is a fundamental element of the system. For this reason, keeping it organized is a great advantage. It can save precious minutes of time. In addition, unfortunately, it often looks chaotic. Since few users take the trouble to organize it according to use. Indeed, the most common option is to leave it as it comes with the system. However, having it organized is a highly recommended measure. Very well, let’s see how to clean and organize the Windows 10 start menu

How to organize what appears in the start menu.

Windows 10 has a very complete Settings Center. In fact, from there you can configure many aspects of the system. So, if we want to fix that often involves the start menu, we must start from there. We know that the Start menu includes many elements. From newly installed applications, as well as the most used ones. Well, all this data is customizable. Let’s see how to do it. The first thing you have to do is to press the Win+I combination to go to Windows Settings. Once there, just click on Personalization.

Windows Settings>Personalization

Available options

Show more tiles on start: this option makes the space of the Start menu much larger and more icons can appear

Show recently added applications: Recently installed programs or applications will appear first in the start menu.

Use Start full screen: activating this will cause the Start menu to be displayed on the entire screen and not just in one corner.

Show most frequently used applications: the most frequently accessed applications will appear in a separate section.

Show occasionally suggestions in Start: this option shows suggestions of applications that Windows considers that can be useful to us.

Choose which folders appear on Start: This allows you to choose the folders that appear in the Start menu. Clicking on it will open a new window. There you can freely choose the folders you want to appear. You only have to select them to be displayed or not.

Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the Taskbar and in File Explorer Quick Acces: This parameter is relative to the elements open for a short period of time. In effect, these will be displayed in the Start menu or in the quick access menu.

These aspects correspond to the basic configuration of the Windows start menu. You just have to give it your personal touch. To customize it more, you only have to uninstall the applications that you do not use. In addition to anchor or unanchored the redundant ones. Since some elements are also shown in the taskbar. It is also possible to organize common elements in a single folder. To do this, simply drag one program on top of the other to form a folder.

Conclusion

Okay, so we have seen how to clean and organize the Windows 10 start menu. As you can see, it is a simple process that will improve your productivity. In addition, I recommend you complement it with the edition of the folders that form the start menu.
Today we are going to see how to edit the folders and applications in the Windows 10 Start menu list, so it is possible to sort it according to the user’s taste. Indeed, each newly installed program behaves differently. In fact, some create folders in the Start menu and others create shortcuts. It is therefore convenient to organize it. It is well known that Windows 10 has a Start menu customization section. However, it is not possible to edit the contents of the list. In order to organize these items, it is necessary to resort to the file explorer. Read on to find out how to do it.

How to edit the Start menu folders.

This is a simple procedure. Just open the Windows file explorer. With this in mind, you can click on the icon in the taskbar. Or press the Win+E combination.

Entering the Windows file explorer.

Next, it is necessary to go to a specific address. For this you need to do two steps. First, you must click on the address bar. This action causes the full address of the location to be displayed.

Clicking on the address bar.

Next, enter the following address in the search bar:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Next, press Enter to go to the selected selection. You will immediately access the list of folders and shortcuts in the start menu. As you can see, the items are displayed as they are in the Start menu. In addition, the system sorts them alphabetically. However, you can edit it to create or delete folders.

List of folders and shortcuts in the Windows 10 start menu.

Obviously, the only thing left to do is to organize it to your liking. That is to say, inside the folders there are the shortcuts. Then, it is possible to cut and paste them outside the folder. By doing so, you delete the folder and only the shortcut of the application will remain in the Start menu list. In the same way, it is possible to do the process the other way around. To organize all items in folders. Very well, in this way it is possible to edit Windows 10 Start menu folders and applications. This will give you another way to customize the system. See you later!

Windows 10 is a system with a large market share. Indeed, there are many users in the domestic and business environment. However, this does not mean that it is error-free. One aspect that has been heavily criticized is the startup menu. In fact, Microsoft is aware of this weakness of Windows 10, since the launch of the system. On the other hand, this aspect in Windows 7 was excellent and liked by most users. But Windows 8, didn’t even have a start button and showed a horrible interface. It even lacked an on/off button. This decision is due to the company’s policy of mounting a hybrid system oriented to mobile devices with a touch screen. Of course, at that time the company was betting on Windows Mobile, with the results already known. Currently, trying to improve the image, Microsoft presents the new Windows 10 start menu.

New Windows 10 start menu.

After the Windows 8 fiasco, Microsoft tried to fix it in Windows 10. For this purpose, a hybrid menu was created between Windows 7 and Windows 8. That is, it returned the basic aspect of the start menu, but it kept elements typical of Windows 8. We are talking about the interactive tiles. This element worked very well on smartphones or Windows phones. However, the utility is hard to see on a desktop computer without a touch screen.

This Windows 10 menu far surpasses the hideous appearance of Windows 8. Its improvements in interface, customization and usability are undeniable. However, users continue to demand something more like the look of Windows 7. And apparently Microsoft heard their complaints. This time it presents a cleaner, lighter, more elegant and integrated look with the rest of the interface. On the other hand, it offers the opportunity to eliminate the interactive tiles, changing them to static icons. However, Windows has them activated by default. Although now the user can deactivate it.

The new system icons are also in the new menu.

These new icons have good design. Fortunately, they abandon flat designs and faded colors in favor of a more modern and attractive finish. In fact, the icons rely on vibrant, deep, and moving colors. These aspects have been implemented in different areas of the system, in the interface, the taskbar, and in Edge. Until they finally reach the start menu.

Another improvement is the improved integration of light and dark modes in the system. This implies a more uniform appearance of the elements.

Conclusion

It is not yet known when this new menu will arrive. Since it is still being explored by Microsoft. However, we hope this redesign will be final. Additionally, according to information, it is expected to arrive for the spring update of 2021. Personally, I love this new menu and its integration with the system. Okay, that’s it for now.

New start menu design for Windows 10 arrives. Microsoft confirmed the change via a podcast. The dynamic icons do not disappear but are modified. After many rumors and leaks, finally Microsoft itself has confirmed the new design of the Windows 10 start menu. In this one the dynamic icons are not going to disappear. Although this does not imply that the design is more dynamic than the previous one.

The arrival of Windows 10X generated expectations about its start menu. The users thought that this would be the one that would arrive to Windows 10. Counting with more modern icons, and leaving behind the dynamic icons. However, Microsoft ended all the rumors through a podcast for the members of Windows Insider. In the mentioned one it finally showed the new design of the start menu. Both with the dark and the light theme.

Actual look of the Windows 10 start menu in a Lumia

The Windows 10 start menu is now more modern

Obviously, the dynamic icons are still present. But they do receive changes. So, from now on, the color blocks are removed and the background color of each one is unified. This gives a more refined and unified appearance. This, along with some icons based on Fluent Design (some already available on computers). Also, they do not have a background color. This adds modernity. In the following image we can see the current look for comparison.

Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager at Microsoft, said that the dynamic icons will not go away, and “those who like them will be able to continue using them”. With these words, he suggests that although they will still be available, they may not be the default option.

“those who like them will be able to continue using them”
Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager at Microsoft

Also, the fact that they are still included now does not mean that they will continue to be included in the next major updates. They have not made any final decision at this time. What they do will depend on the response they get from users using Windows 10X.

Last year, sources close to Microsoft claimed that the company was going to remove them because hardly anyone was using them. Also, very few developers implement them in their apps. Because most of them use static icons. Therefore, there is an increasingly clear trend towards removing them rather than keeping them.

Therefore, this new Windows 10 start menu design brings the entire operating system design closer to Fluent Design. We do not yet know the date of arrival of this new menu. This is because it has not appeared in any Insider builds so far. If it arrives with Windows 10 2004, the new menu should appear this March or April or so. Okay, that’s it for now. Please stay tuned for the latest news on Windows 10. Bye!

The start menu is one of the most used elements in Windows 10. Similarly, this element has undergone a radical transformation since the first versions of Windows. In fact, in Windows 8 it was decided to dispense with this element. However, due to user complains, the menu came back with Windows 10. In this post, I will show you how to customize the start menu in Windows 10. This way you can get the most out of it.

Modify the start menu with Start Settings

Windows 10 provides a native tool to configure the behavior of the start menu. Additionally, to launch it, please press the Win+Q combination and type Start settings.

Launching Start Settings

Immediately a menu will be displayed with several options to configure:

Startup options to customize

Here are some of the most interesting options:

Show more icons on start: this option allows you to increase the lateral expansion of the Start menu. In this way, it will be possible to place more icons. Consequently, you will be able to access the different applications and files stored on the PC.

Show app in start menu: this option is activated to make a list with all the applications installed in the computer be shown or not. This option is activated when we click on the Start button.

Show recently added apps: when activated, the Windows 10 Start button will show in the first positions the applications that have been used or installed recently. This is very useful to quickly locate the newly-installed program.

Use Start full screen: If this option is enabled, the start menu will be displayed in full screen as it is for Windows 8.

Show most used apps: This option adds a new section at the top of the Windows 10 Start menu, in which the most used applications are displayed.

Change the color of the start menu

From this same menu, it is possible to modify the color of the elements that are shown in the start menu. In the first place, click on Colors. Then click on Choose your accent color. This modifies the color of the tiles and the additional elements shown in the start menu.

Change the size of the Start menu in Windows 10

A new feature is the possibility to change the size of the items in the start menu. This could not be done in previous versions of Windows. With this intention, launch the menu and navigate to some of the corners. Forthwith an arrow will appear with which you can modify the size of the menu.

Changing the size of the start menu in Windows 10

Change the size of the tiles.

We have already seen that the tiles in Windows 10 are quite modifiable. In fact, the size can also be changed. With this in mind, just right-click on the tile and then select Resize.

Modify the size of the tiles.

Four different sizes can be chosen to suit the user’s needs.

Pin and unpin tile applications

Another way to customize the start menu is to pin any program to the menu. To do this, just right-click the mouse on the program and select the option Pin to Start

Pinning a program into start menu

To unpin a program from the start menu, repeat the above procedure. But this time select Unpin from start

Unpinning a program from the start menu

Conclusion

Ultimately we have seen customize the start menu in Windows 10. In this way, the system acquires a personalized touch. In addition, the user increases their productivity by better using this element of Windows. Very well, this is all for now, before I say goodbye I invite you to see our post on File Server in Windows Server 2019.

With the introduction of Windows 10, we got rid of the horrible start menu system of Windows 8 and 8.1. That Metro start menu wasn’t that bad but the majority of Windows users (including me) didn’t like it. Windows 7 start menu was at the core of our heart. Windows 10 reintroduced the Start menu with a lot of tweaks. Many are happy, many are not.

Personally, I’d like to stick around with the good old Windows 7 start menu. It was simple and powerful with easy interface. If you’re one of those Win 7 start menu enthusiasts, let’s get our favorite feature back! Thanks to the software devs of all over the world, there are some good pieces of software to enjoy. Don’t forget to take a look at the best free screenshot tools for Windows users!

Get start menu back!

There are a good number of available start menu apps for Windows 10. Microsoft has left Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 and moving forward with Windows 10 where all the new features along with the latest security updates are available.

For Windows 10, I strongly recommend using Classic Start. It’s completely free and open-source with the power of tweaking other parts of Windows like Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer. Classic Start is the next generation of the famous Classic Shell that came to the end of its life not so long ago. With the support from the community, Classic Start was derived and is going strong today.

As for other free alternatives, you can get the original Classic Shell (not recommended),

If you have a few bucks to spare for the best possible experience with your Start menu, you can get some really good premium tools like Stardock Start10, StartIsBack++ etc. These are extremely powerful with tons of customizable options.

We’ll be going around with the Classic Start for this guide as it’s free and open-source. I also salute Classic Shell for supporting us, the Windows user community, for such a long time.

Why Classic Start

There are numerous reasons to consider.

It’s free.

EXTREMELY customizable. You’ll be amazed when you’ll find out all the available options to modify and tweak.

A good number of available skins.

Nice start buttons

Support for older Windows (Windows 7, 8 and 8.1)

Status bar and toolbar for Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer.

Installing the start menu

The process is simple. Install Classic Start like any other software in your system. It’s recommended to install it on “C:\Program Files\” folder. This way, it’ll perform faster with the system.

Now, press the start button and feel the change!

If you’re in need of customization, right-click on the start menu >> select Settings.

There are numerous things that you can change. Perform whatever tweaks you like to give your start menu the most satisfactory view. This is my favorite one –

I’m using “Midnight” skin for having a mixture of the classic and modern style of Windows.

Feel free to customize as much as you want. There’s a backup button, so there’s no need to worry about messing things up.
