<p>Hello friends! Signal, the open-source instant messaging and calling app, has gained popularity recently, due to the emphasis they have placed on privacy and security in comparison to <a href="https://www.osradar.com/how-to-create-surveys-in-whatsapp-for-android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a>. It can be used to send text messages and multimedia content, as well as encrypted messages. <strong>By default, Signal encrypts the message database on the user&#8217;s device, as well as both ends of the communication, to protect the messages that are sent between its users.</strong> By default, the backup option is not enabled. In case you were to lose your account you would not have a backup. In this post, we will show you how to enable backup in Signal.</p>

<h2>Enabling Backup in Signal</h2>

<p>It is likely that as in other messaging apps you will want to have a backup of your conversations. Signal also has the function to make backups like other apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram, to make this possible you must first enable this function, this way you can make backups of all your chats in Signal. A backup is a good option in case your chats have been deleted, or you have deleted them on your own, so you can restore them. The backup in Signal works as follows, Signal will save the backup in the internal memory of your device. It will also generate a password for you to access it.</p>

<h3>First step</h3>

<p>Open Signal on your phone</p>

<h3>Second step</h3>

<p>Then tap the menu button located in the upper right corner the screen.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb01-461x1024.jpg" alt="Then tap the menu button located in the upper right corner the screen enable backup in signal" class="wp-image-33975"/><figcaption>Then tap the menu button located in the upper right corner the screen.</figcaption></figure>

<h3>Eighth step</h3>

<p>After you have made these settings, you have now activated the ability to back up chats in Signal. If you want to create one now, just click on<em> &#8220;Create backup&#8221;</em>. <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="461" height="1024" src="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-461x1024.jpg" alt="Enable Backups in Signal!" class="wp-image-33983" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-461x1024.jpg 461w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-135x300.jpg 135w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-768x1707.jpg 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-691x1536.jpg 691w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-922x2048.jpg 922w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-696x1547.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10-1068x2373.jpg 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Eb10.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px" /><figcaption>Enable Backup in Signal!</figcaption></figure>

<p>Every time you want to make a backup of your chats, you will have to use this function in the app. The copies will be stored in the folder you have selected or created, so that if you want, you can then copy that file from the copies in the cloud, to keep it safe. It is a very useful way if you want to prevent the loss of your data.</p>

<p class="has-line-data">Hello, friends. Security in communications is very important nowadays and every day more and more questions arise about security in WhatsApp. So today I will show you <strong>how to install Signal Desktop client on Debian 11 / Ubuntu 20.04 / Linux Mint 20.</strong></p>

<h2 class="code-line"><a id="What_is_Signal_2"></a>What is Signal?</h2>

<p class="has-line-data"><a href="http://signal.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Signal </a>is a messaging service that comes to compete with WhatsApp and Telegram. As you can imagine it is less popular than these two but it is very well valued by advanced users. The reason is that Signal is committed to offering the highest level of privacy possible.</p>

<p class="has-line-data"><strong>Signal uses an end-to-end encryption protocol called Open Whispers Systems for all communications</strong>. This means that<strong>messages are sent from your mobile phone already encrypted</strong> and are only decrypted when they reach the recipient.</p>

<p class="has-line-data">While I love installing <a href="https://www.osradar.com/install-telegram-desktop-any-linux-distribution/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Telegram Dekstop on Linux</a>, it is also true that Signal offers better security. That is why it is so important for many users.</p>

<p class="has-line-data">So, let’s get started.</p>

<h2 class="code-line"><a id="Install_Signal_Desktop_Client_on_Ubuntu_2004__Linux_Mint_20_12"></a>Install Signal Desktop Client on Debian 11 / Ubuntu 20.04 / Linux Mint 20</h2>

<p class="has-line-data">One of the great advantages of Signal Desktop Client is that the source code is open to everyone. So you can examine it and see that there are no backdoors or malware. And also as you can imagine, it enjoys great support for Linux and especially DEB distributions.</p>

<p class="has-line-data">So, open a terminal and make sure to update the whole system.</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">Then, download and install the official GPG key from the Signal repository by running these two commands:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">wget -O- https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt/keys.asc | gpg --dearmor &gt; signal-desktop-keyring.gpg
cat signal-desktop-keyring.gpg | sudo tee -a /usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg &gt; /dev/null</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">Now add the official Signal repository run:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">echo 'deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg] https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt xenial main' | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">Refresh the APT cache</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">sudo apt update</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">And finally, install Signal by running</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">sudo apt install signal-desktop

After this operation, 358 MB of additional disk space will be used.</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">When the installation is finished, you can run it from the main menu.</p>

<p class="has-line-data">If you want to uninstall it, you can simply uninstall it by running</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">sudo apt remove signal-desktop</pre>

<p class="has-line-data">So, enjoy it.</p>

<h2 class="code-line"><a id="Conclusion_48"></a>Conclusion</h2>

<p class="has-line-data">Signal is an application to take into account if we want to have the maximum privacy possible in our communications. Even though it is not that popular, it is useful for many people who don’t want to compromise their communications.</p>

<p>Hello! The quality of the internet connection depends on many factors. Therefore, we should be aware of all of them. In particular, the Wi-Fi signal strength is a determining factor. Nowadays, we use the computer everywhere in the house. Indeed, gone are the days when we were limited to a desktop. We use to play, work and study in any environment. Whether lying on a sofa, lying in bed, or from the terrace. The problem is that sometimes in these areas there is poor signal strength. Well, in this post we will see how to check WiFi signal strength in <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windows 10.</a></p>

<h2>Taskbar icon is the quickest option</h2>

<p>Obviously, the option to check the taskbar is the fastest. Indeed, the connection icon shows the Wi-Fi signal strength level. And not only that of the current connection, but also that of other available networks. If by any chance it is not displayed, please click on the arrow to show hidden icons.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="360" height="616" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi.png" alt="Measuring Wi-Fi signal strength from the task bar" class="wp-image-29480" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi.png 360w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi-175x300.png 175w" sizes="(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px" /><figcaption>Measuring Wi-Fi signal strength from the task bar</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Using PowerShell to measure Wi-Fi signal strength.</h2>

<p>On the other hand, there are formulas to obtain a more accurate measurement. For this, you have to use PowerShell. For this purpose, press the Win+X combination and launch <strong>PowerShell.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="273" height="631" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi2.png" alt="Launching PowerShell" class="wp-image-29481" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi2.png 273w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi2-130x300.png 130w" sizes="(max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px" /><figcaption>Launching PowerShell</figcaption></figure>

<p>Then, you just have to run the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"><em>netsh wlan show interfaces</em></pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="859" height="732" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi3.png" alt="PowerShell showing the strength of the Wi-Fi connection. " class="wp-image-29482" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi3.png 859w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi3-300x256.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi3-768x654.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi3-696x593.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 859px) 100vw, 859px" /><figcaption>PowerShell showing the strength of the Wi-Fi connection.</figcaption></figure>

<p>The image shows the magnitude of the wifi signal expressed as a percentage.</p>

<h2>Using the command prompt to view the Wi-Fi signal strength.</h2>

<p>Another option to appreciate the value of this variable is with the system symbol. With this in mind, press the Win+R combination to invoke the run box. Once there, type <em>CMD</em>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi4.png" alt="" class="wp-image-29483" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi4.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi4-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>

<p>Then, you only have to run the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"> <em>netsh wlan show interfaces</em></pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="979" height="512" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi5.png" alt="The signal strength shown by the system symbol. " class="wp-image-29484" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi5.png 979w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi5-300x157.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi5-768x402.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/wifi5-696x364.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 979px) 100vw, 979px" /><figcaption>The signal strength shown by the system symbol.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Once again, you can see the signal strength expressed as a percentage. Very well, this way we have seen how to check the WiFi signal strength in <a href="https://www.osradar.com/category/windows/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windows 10.</a> Small data like this allow improving the understanding of the network connection. See you later!</p>
