Hi, I hope you’re all right. Windows 10 is the most used operating system worldwide. Within that universe of users, there is a wide variety of consumers. Indeed, there is an occasional user who needs the computer for basic activities. He usually has little technical knowledge and is limited to using his computer as it is. On the other hand, there is the average user who is aware of the performance of their system. Now, the stability of the system is a concern of any user. As a matter of fact, there are different methods to recover the system from a malfunction. In this opportunity, we are going to talk about a system image backup. This method allows you to make an integrated copy of all the information available on a disk, including partitions and the boot sector. It also integrates the configurations and applications made within the operating system. For that reason, let’s see how to create and restore a system image backup.

How to create a System Image Backup

The first thing we need to do is go inside the control panel. With this in mind, type control into the search bar

Type control on the search bar

Once inside the control panel, go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7).

Control Panel>Backup and Restore (Windows 7)

In the next window, select in the left column the option create a system image

Select create a system image

Next, a wizard will be displayed, in which you must select the location where the backup will be saved. It can be on a hard drive, on one or more DVDs or at a network location. In this case, we will choose the hard drive and press Next to continue the procedure.

Selecting the drive to place the backup

Next, you must confirm the location of the backup and its size. In addition, the system to be backed up is indicated. Press Start Backup to begin the job.

Confirm parameters and start backup

In addition, a window will warn that the procedure is started with the backup on the drive.

Creating a system image

The backup process will take time depending on the size of the disk, installed applications and files. Once the process is finished, the wizard will ask if you want to create a system repair disc. For now, we say no.

Do not create a system repair disc

Finally, the wizard warns that the process has been completed and the backup is successful.

The system has completed the backup

You can check that the copy has been made successfully by entering the destination disk.

You can see the folder backup

How to restore Windows 10 using a System Image Backup.

Now, if the system fails, we can restore it using the previously created system image. With this in mind, we need to enter windows settings. To do that, click on the windows symbol, and then on the toothed wheel.

Entering to windows settings

Once inside settings, please go to Update and Security

Go to Update and Security

In the next window, go to the Recovery option on the left. Then, into Advanced Setup, please select Restart Now

In the following menu, the wizard will search for images of available systems. You can choose the most recent or any other created. In this case, select a system image.

Selecting a system image backup

Then we will see the data of the image to restore: Date, location, time and system to recover.

Select the system image to restore

In the following window, confirm the image to recover.

Once the system image is confirmed, we will be able to choose some additional options. Thereupon, there is the option to format and repartition existing disks to fit the system image. It is also possible to install additional drivers to ensure the reading of the system image.

Additional restore options

Starting the restore

All right, once the requirements are met, we must confirm the restoration. Please note that this process should not be interrupted as the system may become unusable.

Confirm the restore

A warning sign will indicate that all the data present on the disk will be replaced with the data present in the system image. Press yes to continue

Press yes to start te restore

The process will begin and may take from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the image. Please note that if you interrupt the procedure, you may permanently damage the system. Once the restoration is complete, the system will reboot with the settings contained in the system image.

Restoring system image backup running

In the final analysis, today we have learned to create a backup system image. In addition, we saw how to restore the system using a backup system image. This tool is very useful since it allows us to recover a system after a serious failure. It also includes all files, settings and even disk partitions. So we can ensure system stability.

A database is an elementary apart in the management of information within a company and is a vital component in information systems. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out operations that guarantee its optimal functioning. However, many times problems can occur that affect these data, so it is important to make constant backups of the database. If you use MySQL you will be able to do it without problems with mysqldump.

The mysqldump client utility performs logical backups, producing a set of SQL statements that can be executed to reproduce the original database object definitions and table data. It dumps one or more MySQL databases for backup or transfers to another SQL server.

Basic use of Mysqldump

The tool is a simple tool in its use but powerful for the possibilities and flexibility it offers you. Making a backup with mysqldump is really easy. I will show you:

Back up a single database:

This is the most basic form of use that mysqldump has. Thanks to this, I will backup a single database. Open a terminal and Run:

:~# mysqldump -u root -p database > output.sql

1.-Back up a single database with mysqldump

Please replace the name of the database with yours and output.sql with the name you want.

Make a backup of all databases:

But in some cases, I need to perform a Backup of all databases. To do this, run:

:~# mysqldump -u root -p --all-databases > output.sql

2.- Making a full backup with mysqldump

Don’t forget to replace output with the name you want for your backup.

Back up multiple databases

And at other times, I need to perform backups of certain databases.

:~# mysqldump -u root -p --databases database1 database2 > output.sql

3.- Making a backup with mysqldump of some databases

Again, I remind you to replace the data.

Common mysqldump options

There are many options to modify the execution of mysqldump, however, you can access them through the terminal

:~# mysqldump --help

4.- Showing mysqldump help

Of course, there are other options, but their use is less frequent.

As I said, mysqldump is a wonder and also allows you to compress the backup using gzip.

:~# mysqldump -u root -p --all-databases | gzip > backup.sql.gz
