Hi! We use the computer for multiple daily tasks. Indeed, from study, work, leisure, development and more. More and more time we spend using Windows. In addition, this system is usually very stable at the beginning of use. However, as time goes by, it can fail. Or even by user intervention or third parties can be damaged. Fortunately, the system itself provides tools to make backups in case something goes wrong. For example, we have seen how to create and restore a system image. However, today we will see a different approach. Indeed, in this post we will detail how to activate and use system restore in Windows 10.

How to activate system restore in Windows 10.

System Restore is a Windows feature that helps you undo changes made to a computer’s operating system files. The process attempts to return the computer to a configuration at a previous point in time. This is called a restore point. So it is a means of returning the system to a point in time when everything was working correctly. So this method serves as a means of rescue. Now, this function is disabled by default in Windows 10. With this in mind, press the Win+X combination and then click on System.

Please select system.

Once there, please click on System Protection.

Please click on System Protection.

In the next window, click on the System Protection tab. Then click on the partition where the system is installed. Finally, click on Configure.

Please click on Configuration

Then you must turn on the system protection. You can also set the assigned disk size for the restore points. Finally, press OK to continue.

Activating the system protection.

In this way, we are ready to create our first system restoration point.

How to create a system restore point.

Once the system protection is enabled, it is time to create our first system restore point. With this in mind, follow all the steps mentioned in the previous section. But this time, please click on Create.

<img loading="lazy" width="412" height="468" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/restore5.png" alt="Please click on create.
It then assigns a name to identify the point of restoration.

Please assign a name

Immediately the system will start to create the restoration point.

After a few moments the process will be successfully completed.

Finally, to restore the system to a previous state, please click on System Restore.

Please click on system restore

Then select the recommendation point or some other saved point.

Please select the point of restore

Then press Finish to confirm the work. Then wait a few minutes while the process is completed. Finally the system will reboot with the previous configuration

Please confirm to begin system restore

Windows 10 is by far the most widely used operating system in the world. In fact, the experience it offers just installed is very satisfactory. However, as you use the system, its performance decreases. And there comes a time when it is necessary to format the system and reinstall it again. On the other hand, Microsoft has incorporated the possibility of restoring the system without the need to download additional files. That is, through the Recovery function, we can reset Windows to its original state. Even the wizard offers the possibility to keep or delete personnel files. In addition, the most recent update (2004) incorporates a very interesting novelty. We refer to the possibility of restoring the system to its original state from the cloud. That is, without the need for installation media or recovery partitions. In this post, I’ll show you how to restore Windows 10 from the cloud.

How to recover a Windows 10 installation from the cloud

As mentioned, this option is a novelty in Windows 10. However, this option has been available for a long time for macOS. Furthermore, some GNU/Linux distributions like Debian also include it. But for Windows, it is only included with the May 2004 update. So the first thing you have to do is to check if you run this version. With this intention, press the Win+R combination and execute the winver command:

Running the winver command

Windows 10 is running the 2004 update.

Once this has been verified, it is time to enter the Windows settings. With this in mind, press the Win+I combination. Once there, click on Update and Security.

Go to update and security.

Then, in the menu on the left, click on Recovery. Then select Get started under Reset this PC.

Select the recovery option

The wizard will be displayed immediately. Please choose between keeping your personal files or deleting them completely.

Choose to keep the files or delete them.

Finally, choose the Cloud Download option. Please wait for the wizard to start the download and reinstall the operating system.

Conclusion

Finally, we’ve seen how to restore Windows 10 from the cloud. The advantage of this method over the traditional one is that the files will always be up to date. However, they depend on the speed of the internet connection. In addition, it is necessary to have enough space on the hard disk. On the other hand, restoring a system from local files is fast because no downloads are required. However, this method can give problems if there are corrupt files or the original installation is affected by malware. All right, that’s it for now. Before I say goodbye I invite you to see our post about blocking adult sites in any browser.
