Hello dear friends. Firefox and Google Chrome are the main dominators of the web browser market, but this does not mean that there are no other alternatives out there. And I think one of the most solid is Opera. So, in this post, you will learn how to install Opera on Debian 11. The process is very easy but it can be worth it.

Introducing to Opera Web Browser

What Opera always boasts about is being a modern web browser. This is because with Opera we can gain integration with social networks like Facebook and Instagram but also with Whatsapp.

Some of the main features of Opera are:

Integrated AdBlocker so that pages can load better.

Opera has a VPN that will help you to be anonymous on the Internet and improve your security.

Chat and surf at the same time with built-in messengers on the side of your browser.

The browser supports themes, keyboard shortcuts, and your favorite bookmarks from one place. Also, Opera features cross-device synchronization so you can use it from anywhere.

In addition to this, Opera is based on a browsing engine similar to Chrome, so the speed of loading websites is guaranteed.

So, let’s get started.

Install Opera Web Browser on Debian 11

Opera is not available from the official Debian repositories as it is not open-source software. But it is possible to install it with the package provided from the project website.

So, go to the Opera website.

1.- Opera web browser

Then, click on Download and it will automatically recognize the operating system and present the DEB package.

2.- Downloading Opera on Debian 11

Then, we can install it by opening the file browser and double-clicking on the downloaded file.

Also, we can do the process via the terminal which is faster. Open a terminal and access the folder where Opera has been downloaded which is usually
Downloads
.

cd Downloads

Now install Opera

sudo apt install ./opera*

This way it will install without problems. Also during the installation, you will be asked if you want to receive Opera updates along with the system. That is, you are asked if you want to add the Opera repository to the system. Answer Y.

Now run it from the main menu and it will start.

3.- Opera Web Browser running

So, enjoy it

Hi! We currently spend a lot of time in front of the computer connected to the Internet. In fact, it is a very common activity either from the pc or a cell phone. Consequently, it is necessary to use web browsers. There are certainly many options to choose from. But to surf in a fast and uncomplicated way, it is best to use a lightweight web browser. So beyond the well-known Chrome or Firefoz, today we will see the best lightweight web browsers.

Avant

Avant is a lightweight browser that also offers speed in web browsing. In addition, its most attractive feature is the low system resource consumption. It also offers important security features. For example, it blocks ad and malware. In addition, it has other features such as a video downloader and download accelerator. If you want to try all its advantages, you can download it for free from here.

Maxthon

This is another light and fast proposal in the web browser sector. In addition, it is currently available for Windows, Android and iOS. In addition, it has been on the market for a long time which generates experience. Among its features is a proprietary storage system, an email client and a password manager. Perhaps its most striking feature is that it allows you to view two pages from the same window. It also offers a translation service and its own plugins. It even offers dual rendering engines. As a personal note, angeloma and I used to run it in our early days in computing. To try it out, download it from here.

Midori Browser

This is another alternative to Firefox or Chrome that is characterized by its smooth operation. In fact, it is a browser that uses the Webkit engine also used by Safari. In addition, it has CSS3 and HTML support and is available for both Linux and Windows systems. It is open source software that boasts of not collecting personal information. Otherwise, it consumes very few resources and allows browsing without distractions or advertising. You can download it from here.

Opera

This is a browser with a lot of time on the market. In fact, it was the first web browser I tested that was not Internet Explorer. It is a powerful program that is characterized by its speed when surfing. In addition, it has interesting functions of its own. Consequently, you can chat by different ways, work as a BitTorrent client, etc. However, its most attractive feature is its own VPN service. But it is also possible to take notes within the same browser, zoom and recover lost tabs. If you want to try it, go through this link.

SlimBrowser

As its name indicates, this browser offers lightness of use and fast and fluid navigation. It also has a user interface with multiple customizable windows. Consequently, it allows you to load several websites at the same time. This improves the user experience. At the same time, it allows secure searches thanks to the data protection system it features. Therefore, it increases privacy and security when browsing. In addition, there are also portable versions available. Anyway, a very interesting option that you can download from here.

Vivaldi

This browser was founded by the former CEO and co-founder of Opera. Therefore, it is defined as an improved version of this one. It offers speed and many customization options. It also protects from crawlers and annoying ads. Additionally, it offers speed and its own email client. On the other hand, Vivaldi is available for Windows, Android, macOS and Linux.

Yandex Browser

This is a not very well known browser that presents a great speed and fluidity when moving through the Internet. The negative is that it does not support installation of extensions. However, it is very fast and easy to use. It also incorporates a turbo mode for slow connections. We can also customize the home page. Consequently, it will show what we are interested or like from the beginning. If you want to try it, you can do it from this link.

UR Browser

This web browser is based on Chromium. However, it has a lot of changes to navigate faster and save resources. For example, it supports Chrome extensions. In addition, it has two modes of operation: a minimalist mode, which saves more resources. And another full of features that allows you to set up a VPN to improve privacy and use 3D backgrounds. This browser has a download manager included that allows you to download files much faster. This is achieved by dividing them into smaller parts. In addition, it has 3 privacy modes so that users can choose the one that best suits their needs. You can download it from here.

Conclusion

At the end of the day we have seen the best lightweight web browsers. In general, these programs do not consume many resources. That is to say, they are optimized to consume little ram memory and little CPU. Consequently, they should work even in old computers. However, most of them are modern and have support and updates.

Linux is a great operating system that is gaining more and more relevance today. That is why many applications that were previously available only for Windows or MacOS make a presence in our favorite system. Some of them, for quite some time or since the beginning of their development, and others that are new arrivals. These applications cover a large number of categories, from tools to develop professional tools for servers or simply web browsers. Web browsers are a vital part of the use of our personal computer and in Linux, there are many alternatives. Therefore, today we will teach you how to install Opera web browser on Ubuntu 18.04. In addition, this tutorial also serves Ubuntu 19.04.

Opera is a well-known web browser in today’s world. Its development has been with us for some time so we are talking about a veteran program. It has many modern features, such as data synchronization, the ability to add extensions, as well as other more privacy oriented data. All this is achieved with moderate use of system resources.

So, let us start.

Install Opera Web Browser on Ubuntu

The installation is quite simple, we will be able to do it, downloading the .deb package from the project website.

1.- Opera Web browser

Once the .DEB package has been downloaded, we can install it by double clicking on the package. But we can also do it faster from the terminal. Open the terminal and run the following command:

:~$ cd Downloads/
:~$ sudo dpkg -i [package_name]

Then you can launch it from the main menu.

Another way to install Opera Web Browser is to manually add its repository and then run the package. This method is more reliable than the previous one. So let’s go for it.

Open a terminal and add GPG key to the repository and then add the repository.

:~$ wget -qO- https://deb.opera.com/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -
:~$ echo deb https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list

2.- Add the Opera repository

Then, refresh APT and install Opera web browser.

:~$ sudo apt update
:~$ sudo apt install opera-stable

3.- Install Opera Web Browser

After that, launch it and use it. If for any reason you wish to uninstall it. Run the following command:

:~$ sudo apt remove opera-stable

In case you also want to delete its repository, you can do it with this other command:

:~$ sudo rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list

And that’s it.

Conclusion

Opera is a great alternative to the giants of Firefox and Google Chrome. It is quite fast and easy to use, as well as safe. Some users will not be happy to know that Opera is not open source but is a great web browser.

Please share this post with your friends because they might need it.

Ubuntu is, by far, one of the most popular Linux distros of all time because of its simplicity and user-friendly environment. Because of the features, there are also a number of Ubuntu derivatives in the world of Linux distros. Now, for any system, a web browser is a must. That’s because without the browser, there’s actually no way to enjoy the internet facility to the full extent. Even admins require a browser for performing admin tasks via the web UI.

The browsers

Today, let’s take a look at some of the best browsers for Ubuntu and Ubuntu-derivatives.

Google Chrome

In terms of the best browser, Google Chrome is still one of the top. In fact, Google Chrome dominates the internet browser market (according to GlobalStats). Of course, Chrome is a bit resource hungry and no one’s denying it. However, it also provides the best possible user experience of all the browsers in the market.

Get Google Chrome. Google officially provides DEB package for Ubuntu and similar systems.

Firefox

If there’s any browser that fights with Chrome hand-to-hand, then it’s definitely Firefox. Developed and maintained by Mozilla, Firefox is open-source and the prime choice of all the Linux distros as it offers more flexible licensing and others.

If your system is Ubuntu or Ubuntu-based, then there’s a very high chance that your system comes up with Firefox pre-installed. Just run the following command to make sure that all the software along with your Firefox browser is up-to-date.

Is Firefox not installed in your system right now? Get it right away!

Opera

This is a Chrome-based browser that also offers the seamless performance and features of Google Chrome. Opera is also quite secure and fast enough to compete in the market. The interface is actually pretty stylish as well.

We also covered up installing Opera on a Linux system.

Brave

This is another awesome browser that earned its fame for its ad blocking and tracking protection. Brave is also a Chromium-based browser developed by Brave Software Inc. It utilizes the Blink engine like Opera for providing smooth and finest performance in browsing.

Brave also has other interesting features like auto enabling HTTPS on site connections. This is very important as HTTP is no longer secure anymore.

Min Web Browser

If you’re looking for a lightweight web browser, then Min is your right choice. Despite Min a minimal browser, there’s no lack in the list of features. The browser generally goes with DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. However, you’re free to switch to other search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo etc.

Vivaldi

Vivaldi is another nice browser that is developed and maintained by Vivaldi Technologies. This is a free, cross-platform browser that targets the heavy internet using people. The browser adopted some really cool and popular features from the old Opera 12 – a browser that depended on Presto layout engine. In fact, you can also tell Vivaldi as the MODERN edition of the OLD Opera.

It’s also pretty flexible and offers you full customization over its skins and other layouts.

Enjoy!

For every internet users, web browsers are the most important tool to perform any action. In fact, without a web browser, no PC is complete. There are tons of web browsers available on the internet and most of them are cool and powerful. However, Opera is one of the mainstream browsers and a quite popular choice. Opera is a Chrome-based, well-optimized browser that offers lots of facilities.

If you’re a Linux user, then you’re already familiar with Firefox. Firefox comes by default in most of the Linux distros, but you can install other browsers easily. If Opera is your choice, then follow the steps according to your distro to install it and get the most out of you.

Take a note that in this tutorial, we’ll be using the current stable and beta (for Arch Linux only) release. For any previous or future versions, the same method will do the work. Only change the version wherever needed.

Debian + Ubuntu

If your Linux distro is Debian, Ubuntu or other distros based on these, installing Opera is quite simple. From the official site, you can download the DEB package to install on your system.

Download the DEB package from Opera. Generally, downloaded files are stored in the “Downloads” directory.

Run the following commands:
