Things you can currently only do on Linux, and it’s not Windows 11

A truly free operating system.

As you probably already know, GNU/Linux is open source, and you can install it for free. Unlike Windows, which is sometimes quite expensive. The creator of GNU/Linux developed this operating system because he wanted it to be truly free to use. Therefore, you can select any version of Linux and install it without worrying about spending a dollar. There are certainly some paid versions. However, they are the exception to the rule. Besides, they are optional, and you will always have the opportunity to install a free version.

In addition, most of the applications that come with Linux, such as LibreOffice, Firefox, GIMP and many more, are also free. Here is a big difference from the expensive Microsoft Office subscriptions, which has really generated a great success.

Forget about having to reboot to upgrade.

Rebooting after every system update or uninstalling software is quite annoying on Windows. This is usually not the case with Linux. Indeed, installations do not require the system to reboot at every step. It is true that there is an exception and Linux needs to reboot sometimes. However, this is only after updates to the Linux kernel. With this and in general, the experience is quite smooth. 1. Boot distro. As per official recommendations you must have at least 30 G of storage and 4 G of RAM. Click to install.

2. Select Location.

Install TastyIgniter on Ubuntu 20.04

1.- Install LAMP on Ubuntu 20.04

TastyIgniter is a web application created with PHP, so we need a functional webserver to deploy the application. You can use Apache or Nginx, but in this post, we will use Apache.

Also, we will use MariaDB as a database manager, and together with PHP, we will make the LAMP stack.

Also, install these PHP modules:

libapache2-mod-php7.4 openssl php-imagick php7.4-common php7.4-curl php7.4-gd php7.4-imap php7.4-intl php7.4-json php7.4-ldap php7.4-mbstring php7.4-mysql php-ssh2 php7.4-xml php7.4-zip unzip

And now we can continue.

2.- Create a new database and user for TastyIgniter

TastyIgniter is a data-intensive application that requires a database manager like MariaDB. But it is also a good practice to create a dedicated user for the application.

So, let’s go for it.

Open the MariaDB shell:

sudo mysql -u root -p

And it executes each of these commands to create the database, the user, and the permissions on the database.

CREATE DATABASE restaurant;
GRANT ALL ON restaurant.* to 'user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'restaurantpss';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
exit;

Replace the names with the one you consider convenient.

3.- Download TastyIgniter on Ubuntu 20.04

Now you can download it. To do so, from a client computer with a graphic interface, go to the TastyIgniter website and download the Setup Wizard.

Then, upload it to your server using the scp command and place it in the terminal folder as follows

scp [file_path] [user]@[your-server]:/tmp

In my case, specific:

scp Downloads/setup-master.zip angelo@restautant.osradar.test:/tmp

Now, place the file in the /tmp folder and decompress it to the Apache root directory

sudo unzip setup-master.zip -d /var/www/html/

Then access the installer’s folder

cd /var/www/html/setup-master/

And it assigns the corresponding permissions, as well as the change of ownership of the folder:

sudo chmod -R 755 .
sudo chown www-data:www-data -R .

And creates a new Apache VirtualHost for TastyIgniter:

sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/restaurant.conf

So, add the following content:

       ServerAdmin admin@your_domain.com
       DocumentRoot /var/www/html/setup-master/
       ServerName your-domain.com

      <Directory /var/www/html/setup-master>

Replace ServerName with your own and then save the changes and close the text editor.

Finally, enable the new VirtualHost and rewrite module.

sudo ln -s /etc/apache2/sites-available/restaurant.conf /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/restaurant.conf
sudo a2enmod rewrite
sudo systemctl restart apache2

Now we will proceed to install TastyIgniter.

4.- Install TastyIgniter on Ubuntu 20.04

With everything almost ready on the server, we can now open a web browser and go to http://your-server/, and immediately, the wizard will analyze the server to see if it meets all the software requirements.

When everything is OK, we can click on the Continue button.

Then, you will have to accept the license terms shown to you.

After that, enter the database parameters, previously defined.

Then, configure your restaurant. You can also create an administrator account there.

On the next screen, you can choose a theme or extension. You can also add a Site Carte key which is obtained by creating a TastyIgniter account.

After that, you will start the installation process

If everything goes well, you will see a screen like the one below:

From there you can visit the website as such or the administration panel.

If you go to the administration panel, you will have to log in.

And finally, you can start to fully configure your TastyIgniter instance.

So, enjoy it.

Kdenlive is one of the best video editors, free, open-source and very easy to use. In addition, it allows us to modify the video in its timeline as we want without complications.

Downloading and Installing Nginx

The first thing we have to do is go to the Nginx website in order to install it. Once there, go to the download section and there select the most recent version. In this case, download version 1.17.3

The downloaded file is compressed. Next, go to the root of the file system, and there decompress the folder.

Inside this folder are all the files needed to configure nginx. Before starting the server, it is necessary to edit the configuration file. With this in mind, within the program folder, navigate to the conf folder. Once there, select the file nginx.conf, and open it with the notepad.

As the name implies, this is the server configuration file. By default, the server loads HTML files. What we will do is allow you to upload images. Besides, we will modify the listening port to avoid conflicts with other services. Please pay attention carefully, because editing the file incorrectly can spoil the functioning of the server. But don’t worry, here I’m going to write textually the lines that you must add or modify. Next, I show you the configuration file as it comes, with marks of where it will be edited.

The first thing we are going to do is edit the line corresponding to listen. As you saw in the file, the default port is 80. Change this value and write 8080, to avoid having a conflict with any other service. Then navigate to the line: location / and add the following lines:

location /pictures/ {
     root html;
 }

Check how the file looks once the modifications have been made.

This will allow the server to load the images you place in that folder. Besides, to make this configuration effective follow this path: C:\nginx-1.17.3\html. Once there, create the pictures folder. Inside the folder place the test image that you want to upload to the server. Remember the name as will be needed later. Then, in the same folder, open the index.html file with notepad.

Use nginx server

To start the nginx server, please open a Command Prompt by typing cmd in the search bar.

Navigate to the server folder, and there type:

 start nginx.exe 

To check that everything is in order, open the web browser of your choice and open the following address: localhost:8080. The welcome page will appear, along with our test image. This means that we have been able to install and configure the server correctly.

To stop the execution of the server just type in the cmd:

 nginx -s stop

Additionally, we have reached a point where a Linux installation into Windows 10 is a real possibility and there is the basis of this article.

How to install Q4OS 3.8 Centaurus from Windows 10

In the first place, we need to know what is Q4OS 3.8 Centaurus, according to its official site it is about a fast and powerful operating system based on the latest technologies while offering a highly productive desktop environment. They focus on security, reliability, long-term stability and conservative integration of verified new features. It is a Debian based distribution offering with Plasma and Trinity as the desktop´s environment. But, the most interesting about it, is that includes windows installation to perform it as a regular executable application. So go for it, download the installer from here, and run it.

It is important to realize, that the installer is very intuitive and it will be downloading, extracting and expanding the target image file. Once we double-click on it, a window be appear with installation options, here we can choose drive destination of the installation, installation size, language, username, and password.

We select installation options and press Install in order to it begins to download and extracting the necessary files to complete the job. It could take a time, from a minute up to an hour depending on the disk size selected, or connection speed, so we need to be patient.

Once the installation process has finished, close the installer window and restart the computer.

First booting

The first boot takes a little more time than usual, inasmuch as the system is configuring the necessary services to work properly. Besides, the linux operative system will be booting directly to a splash screen where we have to enter the password.

Once we had entered the password, we starting to configure Q4OS as we like, principally with the apps an updates necessary to correct the performing of the system. Then we need to reboot the system, to apply the changes. After this restart, the computer will boot with a grub menu with Windows and Q4OS, and we can choose any of them.

Well, we already have Windows and Q4OS installed and we can boot any of them. It is important to realize, that the installer allows us to run it directly without having to modify the disk. For this reason, Q4OS offers an alternative to those novice users who want to try Linux without complications. Below we will show you some images of Q4OS already installed.

Now, if we want to uninstall the system we just launch the “q4os-winsetup.exe” installer once again and the Q4OS uninstall wizard starts. The uninstaller removes the Q4OS installation completely, so our computer will be reverted into its original status as before installation. In conclusion, we talk about a great and simple option to explore a free operating system.
