Mozilla Firefox has been around for many years. Besides, it has very interesting features that you should not miss, if you are not using them. Don’t worry, we’ll tell you which are the most important ones for us. Firefox is a browser that has been with us for almost 20 years. Consequently, the level of features and options it has is very high. Although it is not the most used, it is one of the most preferred by users. This is because it is one of the fastest, one of the safest. In addition, like Google Chrome, it has extensions, a fascinating addition for anyone.

It may be that for many users it is difficult to get to know all the features that Firefox has and has been implementing for years. This implies that in the end they end up using it as their main browser. That’s why I thought it was a good idea to show you the features of Mozilla Firefox that you should use and that you might not be aware of.

Search in tabs

One thing I’m sure you’ve already noticed is that Mozilla Firefox displays tab results when you type in the address bar. You should know that you can filter the results to only tabs by typing the percentage character (%) and then pressing the space key.

With this, what we will achieve is that the search is limited only to our tabs. This is something that will make it easier for us to search in the current workspace, without clicking on each tab.

Switch tabs

Another interesting thing about Firefox is the amount of keyboard shortcuts it has. The one we are going to use the most is the one that allows us to switch from one tab to another. Just press Control + Tab to switch to the next tab on the right. Alternatively, you can press Control + Shift + Tab to move to the tab on the left.

Screenshots

The screenshot tool has been implemented in Firefox for quite a few years now. We can hover the mouse over an area to capture only the highlighted page element. However, there is also a button to save the visible page, as well as the possibility to save the entire page.

The screenshot functions are by right-clicking on the page and selecting Take screenshot. You can also add the screenshot button to the toolbar from the customization screen (Main menu>More tools>Customize toolbar).

Video in a floating window

Having a floating screen to watch a video is not something exceptional. In fact, virtually all web browsers have this functionality. The nice thing about Firefox is that it is somewhat different. In fact, this browser ignores the HTML attribute that some pages use to block PiP mode, something that in general is really very useful.

Firefox has a very complete Picture-in-Picture with an interactive video timeline, fast-forward, and rewind buttons. Plus a volume slider and a full screen button.

Firefox appearance

Firefox’s themes are something that has also been around for quite some time, although now, with the dark mode craze, they may not be used as much. Themes can be incorporated from the Firefox add-ons site. However, if we want to create our own theme, we have a Firefox extension called Colors by Mozilla. By means of it, we will be able to make our own personalized one.

Search box

If what we like is that the address bars and search bars are separated, in Firefox we will be able to achieve it. Right-click anywhere on the main toolbar and select Customize toolbar. You can also go to the Menu button > More tools > Customize toolbar. Then we simply drag the search box from the item grid to the toolbar. It’s as simple as that.

Speed Dialers

Having the most interesting websites in bookmarks is something that many users employ to make everything flow faster on pages that we enter often. Firefox makes it easy to quickly open a page we have bookmarked, even without touching the mouse. On the other hand, you can configure the bookmarks bar to be hidden, to appear only on the new tab page or to be always visible.

To decide how we want it to behave we must right-click on the toolbar and select an option from the Bookmarks Toolbar menu, clicking on Always show, Only show in new tabs or Never show.

A very effective way to search our bookmarks is to type the asterisk character (*) in the search bar. Then, press the space bar, to make what we type, only search within our bookmarks.

PDF files

As virtually all browsers do, Firefox is able to display PDF files from the web. The peculiarity is that it can do exactly the same with a file that is saved on the computer.

Firefox will appear as an option when opening a PDF. However, we can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O on Windows to browse for a file or go to File > Open File.

The PDF viewer is quite complete, since it has:

Sidebar with outline and thumbnail options.

Page selector.

Zoom options.

Full screen presentation mode.

Multiple ways to scroll through pages.

Write and draw on top of PDF files and save changes.

Recent access

If we want to clear the recent activity of the Firefox browser, we will not need to open the settings. There is an optional Forget button that can quickly delete the last five minutes, two hours or 24 hours of activity.

To get the button, right-click anywhere on the main toolbar and select Customize toolbar (you can also go to Menu button > More tools > Customize toolbar). After that, we drag the Forget button from the popup window to the toolbar, and we will have it ready to use whenever we want.

Surely you didn’t expect Firefox to have these interesting functions and tricks. Now that you know them all, you will be able to take advantage of your Firefox browser much better and with more conviction.

Hello! Nowadays, the development and design of a web page is one of the most demanded activities. Moreover, this type of tasks can be affordable for everyone. On the other hand, one of the most popular browsers among web designers and developers is Mozilla Firefox. In fact, it has a large library of extensions that can help us to provide it with greater functionality. One of these features is to help us create our website. That drives us to teach you the Best Mozilla Firefox add-ons for web development and design.

Mozilla Firefox is the favorite of web developers

Firefox has been the browser of choice for web developers for years. In fact, we have already mentioned that it has a series of tools and extensions that allow us to design and debug websites efficiently. Therefore, it is important to know and understand how essentially this browser can be for web designers and developers. Likewise, it is also essential to be familiar with the keys it provides us with to make our workflow faster and more productive.

Mozilla Firefox Web Console and Browser Console

Mozilla Firefox has its developer tools. These are included in the browser itself. These tools are known as the Web Console and the Browser Console. The Web Console is responsible for logging information associated with a web page, such as network requests, JavaScript, CSS, errors and security warnings. In addition, it displays informational, warning and error messages explicitly logged by the JavaScript code that executes in the context of the page.

Through it, we can interact with a web page by executing JavaScript expressions in the context of the page. To access it, just press the keyboard shortcut Control + Shift + K.

The Browser Console, on the other hand, is like the Web Console, but applies to the entire browser as a whole rather than a single tab of content. Thus, it logs the same type of information as the Web Console (network requests, JavaScript, CSS, security errors and warnings, and messages logged explicitly by JavaScript code).

However, it presents a major difference regarding the previous console. Instead of recording this information for a single content tab, it records information for all content tabs, add-ons, and browser code. To activate it, just press the keyboard shortcut Control + Shift + J.

Useful Firefox add-ons for web developers

Certainly, with the Firefox Developer Tool, the Web Console and the Browser Console we can perform almost any operation. However, some options are more complicated than others. Therefore, to facilitate their work, we can turn to add-ons developed by third parties.

Web Developer

There are many occasions where a web developer needs to have access to all kinds of functions and tools. There are many occasions where a web developer needs to have access to all kinds of functions and tools. In fact, what he is looking for is to be able to perform tasks such as hiding or showing all the photos or activating or deactivating scripts. To help us with this task, the Web Developer extension extends Firefox’s features. With this in mind, it adds a toolbar at the top of any website with various options for working with web pages.

For example, with this bar, we will be able to make modifications to the HTML and CSS code of a page. It also has the option to inspect the CSS styles of the page elements. This way we will know what CCS attributes they have and what styles affect them. In addition, we can change its resolution and even enable or disable JavaScript. You can download Web Developer from the Firefox Browser Add-ons.

Windows Resizer

We are talking about an add-on that allows us to easily change the size and position of the current window in which we are. We will be able to test different sizes and resolutions quickly and accurately. In addition, we will be able to see how our designs appear in standard resolution sizes. Simply open the user interface and select the desired design. Just add that there are 20 predefined designs to choose from. Consequently, the window will be positioned and resized to the chosen layout.

We can also add a new custom design to be added to the user interface. You must keep in mind that its mission is to change the size of the window, but not the page we are viewing. Against it, we must say that its user interface is not very user-friendly. You can download it from here.

Aardvark

This Firefox add-ons is aimed at front-end web developers. It allows us to select web page elements and edit them. We can also change their size, using quick editing controls. To accomplish this, it gives us several options such as changing their colors, which can come in handy when printing. It can also be used to view the source code of one or more elements, and see how the page is created, block by block.

Once installed, we must simply slide the mouse over the page, to see a red rectangle located under each element of the cursor. In turn, it shows us a yellow legend that informs us of the type of HTML element. In addition to its class, in case it exists. By pressing different letters on the keyboard, we can perform different actions. For example, delete the selected element from the page, isolate the element or move the selection rectangle to the element containing it. Download the latest version of Aardvark to start using it.

Hello! The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of daily life. Indeed, we have made an accelerated transition to the digital world. Therefore, we are spending more and more time on the computer. So, we use it for work, study, and leisure. Therefore, we are likely to share much of our life data with the computer. Consequently, it is advisable to maintain privacy in the different aspects of our life. For this reason, Firefox has been working on a container concept. This tool allows you to manage different profiles in the browser. Read on to find out what are Firefox Multi-Account containers.

What are Firefox Multi-Account containers

It is a tool that will allow you to separate work, shopping and personal navigation. Plus, without having to delete history, log in and out or use another browser. Specifically, the containers are based on tabs. However, they behave differently from normal tabs. In effect, the visited web pages will have access to a separate area of the browser storage. Therefore, browsing preferences will not be transferred to another container tab. In short, each container will maintain its settings independently from the others.

We have already established that when we surf the Internet, we leave a trail. This happens thanks to cookies and trackers. We certainly cannot do without cookies. Indeed, we would not be able to log in. But if we use a container, then we would limit the tracking to the information in it. On the other hand, it is possible to log in to several accounts at the same time. For example, we could use our work Gmail account and our personal Gmail account in each container. It also offers greater protection in case of a cyberattack. For example, a link will only affect one container. It also allows you to assign a web page to a specific container so that it will always open there. Finally, it allows differentiating between work and personal containers. So, it is possible to open one or the other depending on where you are.

How to install multi-account containers in Firefox

The first thing you need to do is to open Mozilla Firefox. Next, let’s add the extension. With this in mind, please visit this link. You will immediately see a screen like the following one. Please click on Add to Firefox.

Adding the Firefox Multi-Account Containers Add-on

Hello! It is well known that Mozilla Firefox is one of the most used browsers worldwide. Although its market share is surpassed by Chrome and the new Microsoft Edge, it still has its legion of followers. This is because, from the beginning of the browser, it always bets on the user’s privacy and security. Indeed, these aspects are essential when surfing the net. Since it is necessary to keep our data safe. Information leaks have been determined when browsing certain pages or when using services and platforms. Logically, our data has commercial value. They can be used for advertising purposes, receive spam, and be sold to third parties. For this reason, browsers can be enhanced with extensions to increase security and privacy. However, Firefox incorporates an integrated function for this purpose. Consequently, let’s see how to enable redirection tracking protection in Firefox.

How to be safe from redirection tracking?

Tracking redirection is used by websites, to prevent the browser from blocking online tracking. It may sound complicated, but the mechanism is very simple. That is, even if the browser blocks third-party cookies, redirect tracking adds the tracker’s site to the browsing event. Consequently, it makes it the first in context. For example, when going from one website to another, we briefly enter an intermediary site. Although this process is imperceptible to the user, privacy is compromised. Because the tracker can associate tracking data with the identifiers stored in the cookies. This way, it can forward this data to third parties.

Conversely, Firefox’s anti-tracking redirection protection does delete those cookies and data from the site. Specifically, it will clear data such as image cache, network, cookies, ServiceWorkers, DOM notifications, AP reports, etc.

How to enable this protection in Mozilla Firefox.

Earlier we talked about the optional features in Chrome and Edge. In fact, in these browsers, they are called flags. Well, in Firefox it is also possible to access these optional and experimental options. With this intention, you only have to enter the following in the navigation bar: about:config. Please accept the risks and continue.

<img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="787" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fire-1024x787.png" alt="Go to the optional Firefox settings.

Facebook is one of the hot topics in the world of cybersecurity for quite a while. The way 3rd-parties are able to exploit Facebook to collect users’ sensitive info has put a lot of negative impact on the most popular social platform. However, it’s still not enough powerful argument to erase your Facebook account. Instead, use the Facebook Container that will contain Facebook’s spying activity at bay. It’s available in Firefox.

For using this feature, you need to use Firefox. It’s one of the major and most powerful web browsers. Firefox is available on different platforms including smartphones, making it a versatile choice of browser. With the latest edition – Firefox Quantum, the performance and stability are now rock-solid. Get Firefox.

Facebook Multi-Account Containers

Whenever you’re running Facebook in your browser, it has deployed different spying method that takes a look at your browsing history, what pages you’re visiting now, your every clicks etc. This gives a tremendous advantage in the market of advertisement. That’s why Facebook is free for all and the most popular social networking platform.

The Firefox extension is extremely powerful to keep your privacy intact. Whenever you’re on Facebook, the extension will create a container for Facebook. The container is an isolated space in the system without having any connection to the original platform, making it really hard for Facebook to spy on you.

Once you’ve installed successfully, the extension will remove all the Facebook cookies and login info from your browser. Then, whenever you log in to Facebook, the app will launch it into a blue-colored tab (container tab). Thus, Facebook is kept into an isolated system.

Don’t worry, as you can easily use the “Share”, “Like” button on other websites. Whenever you click on the buttons, the extension will start Facebook into the container mode. Note that the view and feel will not be the same, but you’ll get used to it.

Not everything is safe, though

The app will secure your browsing history and other types of spying on you, but it can’t prevent leaking information like uploading file(s), image(s), video(s) etc. In these cases, you’re the responsible one for leaking your information.

That’s why make sure to think twice before you share anything on Facebook. Anyone keeping a sharp look on your Facebook can easily tell a lot of things about you. This process is called “social engineering”.

Firefox is one of the best web browsers of the entire internet world, right? It’s stable, fast and awesome with thousands of extensions in the store. In every case, Firefox competes with all other web browsers and have earned a good reputation. However, there’s a security gap found recently in the browser that puts users at risk.

The risk

If you’re a Firefox user, you already know that there’s a feature named “Master Password”. The browser will remember all the passwords of every login credentials; you have to unlock them only using the master password. This is a really time-saving and powerful feature. Unfortunately, due to poor design, the system is highly vulnerable.

The same feature is available in both Firefox and Thunderbird. Security experts lauded the attempt as until that point, Firefox saved the passwords in the cleartext format, leaving them vulnerable to anyone having physical access to the PC. Now, the author of Adblock Plus – Wladimir Palant, says that the master password system uses a weak encryption method that’s highly vulnerable to brute-force attacks.

The leakage

Palant looked into the source code and found the function that converts the passwords into SHA-1 string along with some random salt and the actual master password.

In this process, the count of iteration is a big factor. The higher the count, the better protection. In the industrial area, the accepted value is 10,000 whereas other powerful apps like LastPass use the value 100,000. In this factor, the count for Firefox is extremely LOW – only 1!

This low iteration count allows a hacker to easily break down the master password by using the brute-force attack and use it to decrypt other stored passwords from the database of Firefox and Thunderbird. Palant also points out to present powerful GPUs that can brute-force simplistic passwords within a minute. Thus, the “Master Password” feature isn’t worth at all.

This issue was reported about 9 years ago by Justin Dolske when the “Master Password” feature was just launched. Despite the report, Mozilla didn’t take any official action for years! Recently, Palant received the first official Mozilla response regarding the case – they’re developing a better tool, currently codenamed “Lockbox” and it’s available as an extension. Once it’s fully developed, it’s supposed to solve the issue.

If you’re using a master password, you don’t need to worry right now. Unless Mozilla fixes things permanently, use a longer and more complex password. This way, the vulnerability can be mitigated to the lowest level. If you’re not using, use master password as it encrypts the other passwords instead of plain text.
