Let’s talk a bit about the impact of browser extensions. Maintaining privacy when surfing the Internet is a fundamental factor. It is not always possible. Indeed, there are many reasons why our personal data can end up in the wrong hands. One of the most common is to decide to delete the browsing history. In this way, we avoid being spied on in case an intruder gains access to the browser. But is this enough? In this post, we will tell you something very important that we do not always take into account.

You can install extensions in browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. These extensions serve to better manage tabs, optimize downloads or can even be an antivirus. But of course, are they really safe? Could they spy on you? That’s just what we are going to explain. In fact, you should be very careful if you plan to install an extension. Especially if you do it outside the official app store, because you could put your security at risk.

Extensions can spy on you

Beyond whether you want to delete your browsing history, there is something fundamental that can put your privacy at risk: Chrome and Firefox extensions. There are add-ons that can be a real security problem. Hackers can sneak in modified or malicious extensions to collect information and spy on you.

Therefore, you may have some extension installed, and it is spying on you without you knowing it. Even if you want to take precautions, such as deleting your browsing history, if you have such an add-on you could be targeted by cyber criminals. In addition, they will be collecting information of all kinds. Through a fake extension, they will not only access your browsing history and everything you do online. In fact, they could also steal your credentials and passwords. For example, they could have access to your bank details when you make a payment, your username, and password when you log in to Facebook, etc. When we are going to install an extension, we are always warned that the add-ons could collect all the websites we visit. Even everything we type, so we should only install legitimate ones.

In short, browser extensions can be a real problem for your security. Don’t just take into account deleting the history and other general measures. In fact, you should also take a good look at what you have installed in your browsers and prevent them from spying on you through extensions.

How can we minimize the risk of being spied on.

Our recommendation is that you only install the extensions that are really necessary. For example, some ad blocker, the PDF reader and little else. Also, before installing an extension, you should look at the reviews in the official Firefox and Chrome add-on stores. This way, you could see if it is an extension that is working or really just there to try to scam users. There are certainly a lot of controls for uploading an extension to the official stores. However, keep in mind that it is not always possible to control all extensions that are uploaded or updated.

Tips when using browser extensions

So, what do you need to do to use browser add-ons safely? Our advice is to always download extensions from reliable sources. You can go to the Chrome or Firefox add-on store, for example. It is essential to download extensions from a legitimate and secure site, to make sure with some certainty that it does not have any malware or will spy on us. Although we must also keep in mind that 100% security does not exist, this is a maxim in the world of computer security.

Avoid downloading software from third party sites. In fact, it is likely that they have been modified. Cybercriminals often take legitimate software and then make modifications in order to infect computers or mobile devices. In addition, you should check very carefully what you are installing. We urge you not to install the first extension that pops up in the search engine, you should do your research. You can check reviews and ratings from other users. This will help you to know if you are installing something safe or, on the contrary, could be a risk to your security. You should not install an add-on that has bad ratings, for example.

On the other hand, it is key to keep them updated. An extension may be secure today. However, maybe in a while it will have some vulnerability that a cybercriminal can exploit. Updating it may allow you to correct these flaws. In addition to avoid being spied on or having your privacy compromised in any way. Another factor to keep in mind is to protect your device properly. Avoid using your computer without antivirus. D as this can allow malware to enter through browser extensions. A good security program can be helpful to be more protected.

Some final recommendations.

As you can see, extensions can be used by hackers to spy on you through your browser. It is key that you take action. For example, you should only install add-ons that you see as reliable and that really contribute something positive. You can always protect your browser bookmarks to avoid intruders.

Another very important recommendation is not to use too many extensions in your web browser. In fact, every extension you install will slow down your browser a bit. Moreover, it will make it consume more resources (especially RAM memory). Install only the extensions you need, and no more. You may at some point install a new extension. Then, later, you realize that you don’t use it. Consequently, the best thing to do is to uninstall it so that it stops consuming resources for no reason.

Conclusions

Extensions for web browsers such as Chrome or Firefox are really useful. However, we must pay close attention to how many extensions we install and also where we install them from. It is essential that we only install the ones we really need. In addition to uninstalling the extensions that we are not using in order not to slow down the web browser too much. In this way we avoid that the consumption of resources such as RAM does not skyrocket.

Regarding where to download them, always do it from official browser stores. Surely these have had to go through different revisions to be available for download. Unlike third-party websites where the level of review is probably clearly lower.

Hello! When browsing our favorite websites, it is possible that not all of them have an attractive design. In fact, this can be crucial when you visit it. A website might have the exact content we are looking for. However, it can be difficult to navigate it. Most of all, if it has a sloppy design or loaded with elements that hinder our navigation. Mozilla Firefox is a very complete browser. If we are using it, we can modify the appearance of a website. With this intention, it is necessary to resort to a Firefox add-on. Stay reading to learn how to change the look of any website with these Firefox add-ons.

Add-ons to change the appearance of a website

Next, we are going to see different add-ons for Firefox. These allow you to change and customize the appearance with which web pages are displayed in the Mozilla browser.

Stylebot, modify the code of any website

If we are looking to make a web image change, this add-on allows us to modify the code of a website. It also allows you to change some of its features such as font, text color, background color and text alignment. All this without the need for coding knowledge.

To achieve this, simply click on its icon in the toolbar. As a result, a sidebar will appear, from which you can select the element of the website you want to change. It can be the title, the body of the text, among others, to modify it. If, in addition, we know its CSS we can change its code and enable its Readability mode that allows us to reduce the website to its most basic elements. We can also apply light, dark and sepia themes, adjust the font, text width or line height.

Stylus, install themes or create your own style for a website

This add-on is a community-driven style manager. Its main function is to redesign our favorite websites. So, it allows you to easily install custom themes from popular online repositories. It is also possible to create, edit and manage our custom CSS stylesheets. There are different themes to choose from. Even fun and random elements like a Nyan Cat progress bar for YouTube. To be honest, for that alone, it’s worth downloading this add-on.

Its user interface is highly customizable. So, it includes themes, optional layouts, icon and badge color options, along with many other settings. In addition, it has two different optional code validators with different rules that we can configure. On the downside, inexperienced users may find its interface a bit cluttered.

Tranquility Reader, improves the readability of a web interface

By using this Firefox add-on, we will be able to make web page interfaces more readable. With this intention, we will eliminate any element that may distract us while trying to read any element. However, always keeping the main image and the whole body of the text. On the other hand, the extension can be activated or deactivated quickly with the click of a button. In addition, without having to refresh the page.

Features include NoScript support. It also allows you to save the content of the page so that it is available offline. It also can export and import the content offline. Not only that, but it also allows us to customize the font, its size and color. Finally, it allows you to edit the background color and the width of the reading area of a website.

Improve YouTube, customize and change its entire look and feel

As we can imagine from its name, this Firefox add-on allows us to modify a large part of the interface of the streaming video platform. Indeed, we can customize from the color of the player to the side of the screen where the list of recommended videos are displayed. In addition, It has more than 85 unique and useful features to enhance the appearance of YouTube. So, we will be able to configure the video player, the theme, the design, and style of the platform.

Its main advantage is that it is an intuitive and easy to use add-on. In fact, just by clicking on its button we will have access to the Player, Themes and Appearance categories. From there, you can select the elements to modify by simply activating and deactivating any lever or slider. As you can see, it can be used by all types of users.

Stylish, style manager and editor for any website

Through the use of this Firefox add-on, we will be able to apply different styles to the web pages we want. In effect, this is a style manager and editor, especially oriented to users who know CSS. In addition, who wish to dare to create their own customization layers to change the style of a website. Undoubtedly improving in this way our browsing experience.

It has an online repository, so you don’t need to know how to write styles. In fact, we will only need a couple of clicks to give a website the desired style. However, its main drawback is that many users warn that it has spyware to record the history of our web browsing.

Firefox add-on to darken a website

Occasionally, we don’t want to drastically change the look of a website. In fact, it is also possible to turn it to a darker mode. In that case, these Firefox add-ons are for you.

AutomaticDark, change Firefox theme according to the time of day

This is an extension with an elementary and useful function. With this tool we will be able to change the Firefox theme depending on the time of day. Therefore, both the browser and the content we are viewing will darken according to the time of day. To accomplish this, we can share our location with AutomaticDark. Consequently, the add-on will automatically determine the perfect time for the change. However, if we are concerned about our privacy, we can also set the sunrise and sunset times manually.

Certainly, dark mode is something that has been with us for a while. However, what really sets this add-on apart is that we don’t necessarily have to choose a dark mode. In fact, there are 21 themes to select from, including the default Firefox ones. While this does not affect the content of the website, it does help to protect our eyesight from the strain.

Turn Off the Lights, dims a page when watching a video

This Firefox add-on allows us to completely darken any page. This way, we will be able to watch any video as if we were in the cinema. It is compatible with the main streaming video reproduction websites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Twitch, Dailymotion, among others.

A simple click on its button is all it takes for the page to start degrading until it goes completely dark. As a result, we can comfortably focus on the video. By simply clicking on its button again, the page will return to normal. The extension automatically plays the videos in HD, allowing us to change the resolution up to 8K.

Dark Reader, adjusts brightness and contrast when visiting a website

We are talking about a free and open-source Firefox add-on, with which it is possible to set a dark theme for any website. With this in mind, it inverts bright colors, making them contrasting and easy to read in low light situations. For example, at night.

The extension allows you to adjust both brightness and contrast. In addition, we can use a sepia filter, a dark mode, as well as configure the fonts. Additionally, it does not display advertising and does not collect or send user information. Its main drawback is that its use can cause the browser to slow down frequently on certain web pages. Bye!

Hello! Nowadays, the development and design of a web page is one of the most demanded activities. Moreover, this type of tasks can be affordable for everyone. On the other hand, one of the most popular browsers among web designers and developers is Mozilla Firefox. In fact, it has a large library of extensions that can help us to provide it with greater functionality. One of these features is to help us create our website. That drives us to teach you the Best Mozilla Firefox add-ons for web development and design.

Mozilla Firefox is the favorite of web developers

Firefox has been the browser of choice for web developers for years. In fact, we have already mentioned that it has a series of tools and extensions that allow us to design and debug websites efficiently. Therefore, it is important to know and understand how essentially this browser can be for web designers and developers. Likewise, it is also essential to be familiar with the keys it provides us with to make our workflow faster and more productive.

Mozilla Firefox Web Console and Browser Console

Mozilla Firefox has its developer tools. These are included in the browser itself. These tools are known as the Web Console and the Browser Console. The Web Console is responsible for logging information associated with a web page, such as network requests, JavaScript, CSS, errors and security warnings. In addition, it displays informational, warning and error messages explicitly logged by the JavaScript code that executes in the context of the page.

Through it, we can interact with a web page by executing JavaScript expressions in the context of the page. To access it, just press the keyboard shortcut Control + Shift + K.

The Browser Console, on the other hand, is like the Web Console, but applies to the entire browser as a whole rather than a single tab of content. Thus, it logs the same type of information as the Web Console (network requests, JavaScript, CSS, security errors and warnings, and messages logged explicitly by JavaScript code).

However, it presents a major difference regarding the previous console. Instead of recording this information for a single content tab, it records information for all content tabs, add-ons, and browser code. To activate it, just press the keyboard shortcut Control + Shift + J.

Useful Firefox add-ons for web developers

Certainly, with the Firefox Developer Tool, the Web Console and the Browser Console we can perform almost any operation. However, some options are more complicated than others. Therefore, to facilitate their work, we can turn to add-ons developed by third parties.

Web Developer

There are many occasions where a web developer needs to have access to all kinds of functions and tools. There are many occasions where a web developer needs to have access to all kinds of functions and tools. In fact, what he is looking for is to be able to perform tasks such as hiding or showing all the photos or activating or deactivating scripts. To help us with this task, the Web Developer extension extends Firefox’s features. With this in mind, it adds a toolbar at the top of any website with various options for working with web pages.

For example, with this bar, we will be able to make modifications to the HTML and CSS code of a page. It also has the option to inspect the CSS styles of the page elements. This way we will know what CCS attributes they have and what styles affect them. In addition, we can change its resolution and even enable or disable JavaScript. You can download Web Developer from the Firefox Browser Add-ons.

Windows Resizer

We are talking about an add-on that allows us to easily change the size and position of the current window in which we are. We will be able to test different sizes and resolutions quickly and accurately. In addition, we will be able to see how our designs appear in standard resolution sizes. Simply open the user interface and select the desired design. Just add that there are 20 predefined designs to choose from. Consequently, the window will be positioned and resized to the chosen layout.

We can also add a new custom design to be added to the user interface. You must keep in mind that its mission is to change the size of the window, but not the page we are viewing. Against it, we must say that its user interface is not very user-friendly. You can download it from here.

Aardvark

This Firefox add-ons is aimed at front-end web developers. It allows us to select web page elements and edit them. We can also change their size, using quick editing controls. To accomplish this, it gives us several options such as changing their colors, which can come in handy when printing. It can also be used to view the source code of one or more elements, and see how the page is created, block by block.

Once installed, we must simply slide the mouse over the page, to see a red rectangle located under each element of the cursor. In turn, it shows us a yellow legend that informs us of the type of HTML element. In addition to its class, in case it exists. By pressing different letters on the keyboard, we can perform different actions. For example, delete the selected element from the page, isolate the element or move the selection rectangle to the element containing it. Download the latest version of Aardvark to start using it.

ColorZilla

This is a Firefox add-on specially focused on helping web developers and graphic designers with color-related tasks. Indeed, it provides basic and advanced tools as well. With it, we will be able to determine the colors with which our website is made. With ColorZilla you can get a color reading from anywhere in your browser, quickly adjust this color and paste it into another program.

As mentioned, this tool has very advanced tools. Among them are the Advanced Eyedropper, the Color Picker, a Gradient Generator, among others. With its integrated palette browser, we can choose colors in set and predefined colors. We can also save the ones we use the most to create our own personalized palette.

Greetings friends, Firefox is one of the most popular browsers among Android users. This browser has incorporated a lot of features in the past few months, which help to keep improving the experience for users. The 85th version of the browser is official, starting its deployment and in this new version, there is an important change in the way extensions are installed. This version aims to make installing extensions much easier for users. It will no longer be necessary to use the add-on manager to make this possible. So in this post, we will show you how to install extensions in Firefox for Android.

First step

Open Firefox from your phone, in case you don’t have it, you can get it from Google Play by following the link below:

Google Play Store | Firefox: the fast and private web browser.

google play

Second step

Go to addons.mozilla.org in the browser.

Go to Extesions page

Third step

Then choose the Extension you want

choose the Extension you want

Fourth step

After that, click on add to Firefox

click on add to Firefox

Fifth step

Finally, accept the permissions and wait for it to install. And that’s it, Enjoy!

accept the permissions and wait for it to install

dark reader

example

Conclusion

As you may notice, the process becomes much simpler, having a dedicated page within Firefox for all extensions exactly like the desktop version. Besides, on this page, we find the official extensions, which we know are safe, so it is less likely to install an extension that may be a risk to our phone. This feature is already available in the stable version, it is not necessary to have the beta installed, also for now only allows you to install official extensions. Remember to keep visiting us for more content. Thanks for reading us. Bye!

Hello, friends. In this short post, you will learn how to install OpenH264 on Fedora 33. You will find this post especially useful if you use your web browser a lot to play video files from the Internet.

What is OpenH264 and why is it necessary?

The technical advantages of the H.264 codec were a strong advantage over Open Source alternatives such as VP8, used in the WebM container. The main problem was licensing and cost because you had to pay to use MPEG LA. So, In order to play many streaming videos, you need the H.264 codec. However, due to licensing restrictions, H.264 is not open source like Firefox.

On the other hand, Cisco has taken their H.264 implementation and open-sourced it under BSD license terms. Development and maintenance will be overseen by a board from the industry and the open-source community.

OpenH264 has been launched in collaboration with Cisco and Mozilla. This plugin comes with Firefox but not always in its latest version.

In addition to this, it is possible to install other plugins to be used with Gstreamer in desktop projects.

So, let’s go.

Install OpenH264 on Fedora from the Cisco repository

The first thing to know is that Fedora through the
fedora-repos
package includes an OpenH264 binary that is licensed by Cisco. However, it is possible to add the repository of it, to obtain a better integration with the system and to obtain other necessary packages.

So, add the repository in question:

sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled fedora-cisco-openh264

The command will not generate any output on the screen. After that, install the necessary plugins.

sudo dnf install gstreamer1-plugin-openh264 mozilla-openh264

1.- Install OpenH264 on Fedora 33

This command installs not only the Firefox plugin but also the Gstreamer plugin needed for various projects.

Afterward, you need to open Firefox, go to menu → Add-ons → Plugins, and enable the OpenH264 plugin.

2.- Configuring OpenH264

Now it is necessary to make some changes in Firefox.

To do this, open it, and in the address bar type
about:config

From the Search field type in 264 and a handful of options will appear. Give the following Preference Names a value of true by double-clicking on false:

media.gmp-gmpopenh264.autoupdate
media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled
media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled
media.peerconnection.video.h264_enabled

Finally, restart Firefox.

Conclusion

Having our Firefox and Fedora ready to play content over the Internet is never too much to get the most out of both. With this small and simple tutorial, it is possible to do it quickly.

A new version of Firefox has arrived despite all the health problems that plague our planet. This time Firefox 76 makes its debut with a very sharp focus on security and password management. Of course, without leaving aside the correction of bugs and other novelties.

Firefox is one of the most important browsers nowadays. You could consider it as a jewel of open source. Since it was one of the first to demonstrate that if you can develop a quality application under this approach.

As is well known, the development cycle of Firefox is quite agile. This allows you to introduce new improvements and fix bugs frequently.

So Firefox 76 is here and we will examine the main features.

Firefox 76 available

While it is true that this is a rather small launch, it is very focused on safety. So it doesn’t have to go unnoticed either. Even more so when many users are not aware of the risks they run on the Internet.

Firstly, Firefox 76 displays critical alerts in the Lockwise password manager when a website is breached. Also, Lockwise receives many improvements in password management.

Moreover, if a hacked account’s password is used on other sites, Firefox will ask users to update it to keep it safe.

Moreover, you can automatically generate secure, complex passwords for new accounts across more of the web that are easily saved right in the browser.

Other features of this release

Although security is the main feature of this new version, it is also true that Webrender has its space.

Now webrender will be available for Intel laptops with resolutions lower than 1920X1200 which makes it reach more people every day. It is true that at first, only Windows users will be able to take advantage of this but be careful, it is close to Linux.

On the other hand, the Picture-in-Picture mode is available and will allow you to do many operations simultaneously and increase your productivity. If you do not know, this mode will make a video that is playing in a small box that will allow you to change tabs but still see the video. Ideal if you use a lot of platforms like Youtube.

Firefox now supports Audio Worklets. With this feature, you can now join Zoom calls on Firefox without the need for any additional downloads. This program is so used in these times of isolation.

How can I get it?

In distributions like Ubuntu, Linux Mint, ElementaryOS, or Pop!_OS an update should come soon.

In the case of OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and other Rolling Releases like Arch Linux, it should be available in the official repositories soon.

In the case of Debian and other distributions, you can download this version from Mozilla’s FTP.

With all this going on worldwide with the pandemic, the new version of Firefox has likely gone unnoticed. Yes, Firefox 75 is a new version that incorporates small but important new features. Join me in this post to find out.

So Firefox 75 is here and we will examine the main features.

Firefox 75 Features

This launch stands out for certain things, but the main one is that from now on the navigation bar is more productive. With it, you can search faster and smarter.

To achieve this, the navigation bar will suggest the main sites based on the keywords. It has also been optimized for smaller laptops.

This release brings very good news for Linux users because now the behavior when clicking on the navigation bar is the same as other platforms. This behavior is a single click selects all without primary selection, a double click selects a word, and a triple-click selects all with primary selection.

This Firefox version debuts in Flatpak. This will make it available for even more Linux distributions and with the addition of being isolated from the system.

Also, the enterprise policies may be used to exclude domains from being resolved via TRR using DNS over HTTPS.

In this version, you can save bandwidth and reduce browser memory by using the loading attribute on the <img> element.

As always, with each new version, many known bugs are corrected. In addition to this, also patches to improve the security of the application.

Finally, in this version, the Android version has minor new features and specific bug fixes.

If you want to install it, you can use Flatpak to avoid any risk to alter the system. Or in the case of Ubuntu, Linux Mint and other distributions, you should soon have it available from the distribution’s package manager.

For more information, you can read the release notes.

Hi, how are you? This time we’re going to talk a little bit about web browser security. In effect, there is a protocol called DNS over HTTPS that prevents the provider from spying on the websites you visit. Every time you try to access a website, the provider has to look up the IP address to access it. Often, we know the websites we visit and many ISPs do business with this information. However, even if they uses the HTTPS standard, the provider still has access to the website’s name and IP address. Therefore, what DoH does is encrypt the IP address using HTTPS. In other words, it hides the IP address that identifies each page, preventing it from being accessible to the provider. For that reason, let’s see how to activate DoH in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

How to activate DoH in Google Chrome

To use DoH in the Chrome browser, put this in the URL field:

chrome://flags

The advanced configuration options for Chrome will be displayed immediately. Please, inside the search engine enter DNS and then select Secure DNS Lookup. Then change the option to Enabled. Finally, restart the browser to set the changes.

Select Secure DNS Lookup. Then restart the browser.

How to activate DoH on Microsoft Edge

The new version of Microsoft Edge uses Chromium, which is the same engine as Chrome. Well, to enable this technology in this browser, please enter the following text in the navigation bar:

edge://flags/#dns-over-https

Enable the DoH and restart the browser

Select the option highlighted in yellow. And in the menu on the right, enable DoH.

How to activate DoH in Mozilla Firefox

To activate this protocol in Mozilla Firefox it is necessary to enter the browser options. With this intention, please enter the following text in the navigation bar:

about:preferences

Once there, scroll down to the Network Settings.

Go to Firefox Networking Options

A new window with all the network options will be displayed immediately. Please scroll down until you get to the DoH related option. Please check the box to enable it, and then select the DNS provider. Again, restart the browser to set the changes.

Enable DoH in Mozilla Firefox

Conclusion

Ultimately we have seen how to enable DoH in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. This way providers will not be able to know which web you visit. This represents a breakthrough in privacy and security. This is all for now before I say goodbye I invite you to see our post about how to free ram memory in Windows 10. Bye!

I use a Firefox-based web browser which connects to a Squid proxy server. The proxy server is part of a much more complicated secure network.

One of the many benefits of using Squid, in addition to the obvious security benefits, is content caching. The cache increases network performance for fetching clients and lowers internet bandwidth.

Firefox web browser
also includes its own built-in cache. Two of them, actually! It has a
memory cache and a disk cache. You can view the contents of the cache
by entering the following into your navigation bar:

about:cache

From here you can also update the cache or view the details of a specific cached item.

The Firefox web
browser cache is designed to increase performance. However, when you
have caching being performed by Squid, then using the web browser
cache is effectively a duplication of services. When the Firefox disk
cache and Squid are both actively caching I often found that
connections would hang, become unstable or even become
non-responsive. This was the result of the Firefox disk cache
conflicting with the Squid cache – two caches trying to do the same
task.

While choosing one
cache over another might not technically be a ‘better’ option, I have
found it’s better to leave the task of caching to Squid as it is a
dedicated server designated for one specific role. This frees up
Firefox resources to concentrate on rendering content rather than
juggling finite resources for multiple tasks inside the browser.

There is also an
added security benefit to disabling the Firefox disk cache. When
enabled, malicious web content can reside inside the cache. Where
memory cache is non-persistent and cleared on Firefox close, the disk
cache is persistent and if there is malicious content present, it
will get reloaded every time Firefox is booted or until you clear the
cache entirely.

It’s best to leave
the Firefox memory cache enabled to maintain Firefox web browser
performance, as the memory cache poses less threat of cache conflict
with Squid to that of the disk cache. To disable the disk cache enter
the following into your navigation bar:

about:config

Press ENTER to confirm the warning dialog. Now, search for the configuration string:

browser.cache.disk.enable

Set the value to “false“.

Your disk cache is now disabled. We can verify the change by revisiting the about:cache page.

Most of the caching is now be performed by the Squid proxy server, complemented by the Firefox memory cache.
