Hello! One of the basic tools of Windows is the file explorer. Indeed, it is a daily use app. However, it also has third-party alternatives. This time, we will talk about Files. A free and open-source alternative. In addition, it was already available for Windows 10. However, it already has a date of arrival for Windows 11. And it offers all the basic functions of the file explorer. With the addition that supports tabs and adopts Fluent Desing. In addition, Files already has a release date for Windows 11.

Files will arrive on Windows 11 on October 04th

We have already told you about the performance of Files in Windows 10. Honestly, it has been a great experience. Well, for now, it is in the closed beta phase. However, this testing period is soon to end. Since the developer has posted on Twitter that the release date will be October 04, 2021.

#Files_v2 🚀 pic.twitter.com/633glUM6za
— Files (@FilesForWindows) August 25, 2021

As we have already mentioned, Files allows the use of tabs. Besides, its design is based on Fluent Design. On the other hand, it integrates almost all the functions of the classic Windows 10 explorer. In fact, it is enough to use the context menu to check it. It also supports functions such as FTP access.

But Files doesn’t just change things at the performance level. In fact, it supports the use of themes. So it’s a really attractive browser. Since it includes the option of side panels. That is, you can view folders or files in two different locations in the same window. It is even possible to preview the files inside it. On the other hand, there is still a little more than 1 month to go to know the complete news of Files. However, in the images, we can appreciate improvements typical of Windows 11. Such as the rounded corners and the redesigned icons. But if you want to see the evolution of Files, go to his page on GitHub. You already know, Files already has a release date for Windows 11. Bye!

Hello! Certainly, the file explorer is one of the most used tools in Windows 10. Indeed, it is a quick way to open folders and files. In addition, it allows you to organize, send and save them. However, it can happen that this task becomes tedious. It can become slow and buggy. It can happen that when trying to open a document, the explorer takes much longer than usual. In such a case, it is likely to be a computer problem. Or also a problem with the file explorer. Consequently, today we will see how to repair the file explorer in Windows 10.

Restart the file explorer in Windows 10

The first thing we have to do is to check the operation of the browser. So if the browser is running slow, then restart it. With this in mind, follow the steps below:

Press the Win+Shift+Esc combination to open the task manager.

You will immediately see a list of active and background programs.

Locate the file explorer, right-click and select End Task.

Finishing the file explorer process.

In this way, Windows will close the process. Therefore, it is likely to open it faster. Alternatively, you can reboot the system and check the status of the updates. Please note that an up-to-date operating system is essential to increase performance.

Eases the workload

By restarting the computer, you will probably feel the computer faster. This happens because the system has closed many of the applications and tasks running in the background. This puts an extra load on Windows. However, this cleaning can be done manually. With this in mind, from the task manager itself, you can control background apps. Just check the one you don’t need and repeat the above process to close it.

Disable quick access and history in File Explorer

When opening the file explorer, a list of recent files is usually displayed. It shows the most recently used folders. Therefore, this usually makes the work easier. However, if it gets too saturated, it can slow down the computer. Let’s see how to disable this function.

First press the Win+E combination to open the file explorer. Then click on the file in the upper right corner of the screen.

Now click on Change folder and search options.

Next, click on the General tab. Then scroll down to the Privacy section. Once there, please uncheck the two boxes. Finally, click on Clear to delete the File Explorer history.

Finally, press OK to set the changes.

Removing the preview of folders in the file explorer

Configuring the behavior of a folder

Sometimes the problem is not caused by the file explorer. It may happen that a specific folder is the culprit. Also, it may be caused by a folder with many files and subfolders. Consequently, it is necessary to optimize that folder. Please follow the steps below.

Right-click on the problem folder. Next, go to the Properties

Go to the Customize tab.

Next, the Optimize menu is displayed. Please select the option General items.

Check the Apply also this template to all subfolders box

Press OK to finish.

Optimizing a folder and its contents.

In this way, we have seen How to repair the file explorer in Windows 10. Therefore, you will be able to manage your files and folders in an easier way. Goodbye!

Hello! Windows 10 usually offers stability to its users. However, this stability is accompanied by a certain rigidity in its aspects. In fact, several aspects can only be modified with third-party apps. Unlike GNU/Linux for example. Previously we have talked about the file explorer. Which is one of the most used elements. Well, this design has not evolved much over time. However, it incorporates a side panel that allows you to preview images. But this function is only limited to this type of file. Read on to find out how to enable the preview of any file type in Windows 10.

Using QuickLook to preview any file in Windows 10.

As mentioned, Windows is very limited for previewing files. Indeed, it is not possible to preview documents, spreadsheets, or a PDF. Therefore, QuickLook offers this functionality. It is a free and open source tool that is in constant development. The project has a fairly simple intention. Since it seeks to incorporate this function present in macOS. It is a feature longed for by Windows users: the preview of files in the file explorer.

This tool has the project hosted in GitHub. Besides, it has improved a lot since its beginning. It allows 3 download tips. First, downloading the tool from Microsoft Store. But it’s also possible to download portable versions from GitHub. And finally there are available Nightly builds from AppVeyor

Whatever the type of download, all you have to do is to run it. To check that everything is in order, you should check the program icon on the taskbar.

QuickLook icon running correctly on the taskbar

On the other hand, QuickLook integrates perfectly with Files, the great option for the file explorer. So you can have previews along with this great file manager. Very well, this way we have seen how to enable the preview of any file in Windows 10. Enjoy it!

Hello! Certainly the archive scan is an essential element when it comes to controlling the contents. It is even so important, that there are many ways to access it. No matter if the keyboard or the mouse fails, the essential thing is to be able to open this tool. Stay with us to see different ways to open the file explorer in Windows 10.

From taskbar

One of the easiest ways to open the file browser is from the taskbar. It is well known that there, there are certain anchored icons that allow access to different elements. Indeed, it is very likely that a file cabinet icon will appear that directs to the file explorer.

Accessing the file explorer from the taskbar

If the icon does not appear, simply open the file explorer. Once there, right click on it and select Pin from taskbar.

From keyboard shortcut

The vast majority of keyboards have a Windows key. This has many functions, but when pressed together with another key, it launches many functions. Indeed, pressing the Win+E combination opens the File Explorer.

From Windows search

It is obviously possible to access the file explorer. To do so, just click on the search icon or press the Win+Q combination. Once there, start typing file explorer to go to the app.

Accessing the file browser from the Windows search.

From Start Menu

There are many ways to go to the file browser from the home menu. However, we will show you the easiest one. The first thing we have to do is press the start button. Then, scroll down to get Window System. Then, unfold it until you get the File Explorer.

To open it, press the combination Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Once there, from the File menu, click on Run new task.

Opening the file explorer using the command Run

From Command Prompt

With the Command Prompt you can start almost any application. Of course, it is also possible to open the file browser. With this in mind, type CMD into the search bar. Once there, please run the following command:

explorer

Opening the acrylic browser from Command Prompt

Ultimately we have seen different ways to open the file explorer in Windows 10. As you can see, you have several options to run. In addition, it is always possible to access it beyond hardware limitations. All right, that’s it for now. Stay tuned for our technology updates. See you later!

Microsoft will radically change File Explorer. Users have been asking for the change for a long time. Certainly, the Windows File Explorer has been a real headache. Searching for documents and folders in File Explorer is uphill thanks to the search. In fact, it’s a real pain in the ass.

But this will totally change with the Windows 10 20H1 update. The latter will arrive in the first half of 2020. Another key point is that the redesigned browser will use Windows Search. This is the same tool you can use now in the taskbar.

As they explain in WinCentral, this change will simplify your life. It will allow you to display a list of suggestions as you type in the search field. This will make finding files a much easier and faster task. And, above all, you will really find what you want without any complications. In particular, to access any of the files or folders that you find you only have to click with the mouse normally. By right-clicking on the new Windows 10, you will be shown where the file or directory is.

File Explorer, it works with OneDrive

On the positive side of this update is that it will include Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage. This is something that users have been demanding for a long time. Because OneDrive is deeply integrated with Microsoft Office. Additionally, Microsoft will also redesign the file explorer. In order to use it with touch screen devices such as Microsoft Surface tablets. Offering a specially adapted interface to make it easy to use with your fingers.

The File Explorer upgrade will come with Windows 10 20H1 or Windows 10 2004. It will be the first major version of the operating system this year. To all this, we must add the redesign of the start menu. This is inspired by Windows 10X, which apparently will arrive in the next Windows 10 20H2.

The update will appear in the second half of 2020. With these new features, it seems that in 2021 Windows 10 will be unrecognizable, even more so with its new file explorer. We continue to pay attention to the updates that Microsoft brings us. By the way, did you read our post about the Windows 10 shutdown button? Be sure to read it.

File Explorer is the most common and essential tool for every operating system. Windows is, by far, the most popular OS and available for both personal and enterprise usage. The default File Explorer is a very powerful one with tons of features. However, with new enhancements comes new troubles. It’s hard to keep track of every useful option. If you’re jumping from Windows 7/8.1, the File Explorer might feel a bit messy. However, with these useful tricks, your life will become a lot more fun.

Here are a few fun & advanced tricks (very simple, to be honest) for you.

1. Share files with Windows 10 apps instantly

Windows 10 comes up with native file sharing with Windows Apps with a simple click. The option extends up to Facebook, Messenger, OneNote, Twitter, and Paint 3D and so on.

Select the files you want to share.

Right-click on any of the selected file >> click Share.

Select the app or contact you want to share the file. It’ll open up that app with the file(s) attached.

For using this feature, you need to have the apps installed. If you don’t have the apps, you can install them from Windows App Store. Let’s follow these steps.

Right-click on the file(s) you want to share.

Go to Open With >> Search the Store.

2. Open “This PC” by default

If you’re a Windows 7 user and shifted towards Windows 10, you will feel really creepy with the File Explorer opening the “Quick Access” instead of “This PC”. It’s quite frustrating to navigate to the old system again and again. Now, you can change the feel completely.

Open File Explorer.

Right-click on “Quick Access” from the left panel >> click “Options”.

From the “Folder Options” window, go to “General” tab.

Change “Open File Explorer” option to “This PC”.

Click “OK”.

Now, your previous style of File Explorer will bring up “This PC” every time.

3. Rename multiple files

Renaming multiple files isn’t something we use all the time. But when we need to, it becomes a serious pain. For example, you have a series of videos and want to name them all in the same queue. Without taking the help of any third party tool, you can do this easily.

Select the first file.

Press “F2” or right-click >> select “Rename”.

Once you’ve typed the name, press “Tab”.

You’ll see the next file is in “Rename” mode. Enter your required name.

If you want to skip a few files in-between, just press the “Tab” to skip them and move forward to the next files.

4. Disable ads in File Explorer

Microsoft always promotes its apps to Windows consumers. They show these apps in Start menu, Notification Panel and in the File Explorer as well. Though the intention is good, it can be distracting and annoying in many cases. You can turn off the ads in Windows Explorer easily.

Open “Folder Options” >> “View” tab.

Under “Advanced settings”, find out “Show sync provider notifications”.

Uncheck the box >> click “OK”.

No more ads to disturb your focus.

5. Return back the “New” file

In previous Windows versions, there was a nice and handy feature that allowed you to create a file type including text files, zip files, images etc. Unfortunately, Windows 10 removed the feature. However, you can still do the same by following a simple hack.

Warning! This is for an advanced user. Don’t do anything messy or on your own, unless you UNDERSTAND what you’re doing.

Open Notepad.

Type the following code and save it as “AddFileType.reg”.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.XXX\ShellNew] “NullFile”=””

Note that the “XXX” is the file type, for example, images (.png, .jpg etc.), documents (.txt, .docx etc.)

Double-click the file >> confirm the action.

Now, the file extension will appear in the “New” option just like the following screenshot.

Feel free to share your experience with us. Windows 10 is a big shift for users of older Windows editions, but a powerful shift providing lots of features. Hopefully, these tricks will make your life a lot easier with Windows 10.
