How to create an Instagram Story

Instagram Stories are audiovisual posts that last exactly 24 hours on the user’s profile. They can include photos, videos, lyrics, stickers, GIFs, emoticons, etc. As this feature and the application improve, more and more options are possible to add to Instagram Stories. Currently, Stories have almost nothing to do with the original Snapchat function.

First step

Tap the “+” sign at the top of the screen. Then in the menu that opens, select Story.

Second step

Next, the camera app will open where you can take a photo or video to share later. You also have the option to access your device’s gallery and share a photo or video you already have.

Third step

After that, once the picture or video is done you can add music, effects, emojis, GIFs or draw a picture. Then tap the “Share to” button

Fourth step

Finally, when you have your story decorated to your liking, you must click on the “Share” button to publish it on your profile.

How to share someone else’s story

Unfortunately, there is no way to share someone else’s story on your feed, unless they mention you in their story. There are many apps in the Playstore that promise to do this, but what they seek to do is to collect your data. You should be careful with these apps. In case you want to share someone else’s story in your feed but they have not mentioned you. If it is an image you can take a screenshot. This would be the simplest method, but not the most effective. There are web pages and apps that will allow you to download the content of the Stories of any user of this one. This way you can then share them in your stories or your feed. Giving their respective credits to their author.

However, recently, a new Facebook vulnerability was discovered that affected about 50 million users. That’s a pretty shocking news provided that Facebook already had a bad reputation after the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Using this new vulnerability, potential 3^rd-party crooks could easily use the user accounts for performing illegal activities or even extract data.

Facebook vulnerability

According to a post from Guy Rosen, VP of Product Management of Facebook, explained the vulnerability – an attacker could exploit the feature “View As”, allowing them to steal Facebook access tokens. These tokens then would be useful for taking over the Facebook account. Dangerous, right?

Guy Rosen also stated that their investigations are still in the early stages. However, they confirmed that a number of Facebook accounts were affected by the attack. If you didn’t know, access tokens are the equivalent of the digital keys that keep the people logged in into their accounts so that they won’t have to re-enter their password every time suing the app.

Facebook countermeasures

According to Facebook, after they discovered the vulnerability, they reset the security tokens for about 50 million users and for a safer countermeasure, additional 40 million users. Finally, the “View As” feature was brought down.

That should be enough. However, there are a few more things to consider if you want to make sure that your account is completely safe.

Your measures

• Reset your Facebook password and use a powerful one.
• Make sure that there’s no one else having active connection of your account rather than you.
• Disconnect all the apps from your account that you don’t use anymore.

As Wavebox recommends, you should install the fonts accordingly.

Installing Caprine

In order to install Caprine, follow the proper instructions according to your Linux distro.

• Ubuntu/Debian

Ubuntu and Debian users are very lucky as Caprine is available as an installable DEB package directly. Run the following command for downloading the Ubuntu package –

wget https://github.com/sindresorhus/caprine/releases/download/v2.16.0/caprine_2.16.0_amd64.deb

Once download is complete, just run the command for installing the package into your system.

sudo dpkg -i caprine_2.16.0_amd64.deb

For installing any missing dependency, run this command –

sudo apt install -f

• Other Linux systems

For enjoying Caprine on other systems, you have to use the AppImage version of the software.

Download the AppImage file –

Update the file permission of the AppImage –

Using Caprine

Everything should be all set. Start Caprine by double-clicking the AppImage or launching the app from the system launcher.

This is the starting screen of Caprine. Log into your Facebook account by providing all the necessary credentials.

When you login, you’ll instantly have access to your Messenger. It’s quite similar like the original Facebook Messenger app from app stores.

It’s not possible to hide the contacts from your screen in the web browser Messenger. However, Caprine is capable of doing that without any problem.

When you’re in the screen, just press “Ctrl + Shift + S”.

Voila! The sidebar is vanished! You can get it back by pressing the same buttons again. Note that you can also perform it via GUI. Go to View >> Hide sidebar.

Dark mode

Recently, #DeleteFacebook is going on really strong. It’s because of the recent disclosure of Cambridge Analytica incident where they stole the information of lots of people from Facebook legally. That’s a big shock to the community. Even tech expert like Elon Musk removed the FB page of Tesla and SpaceX.

You can delete your Facebook, and before doing that, you’re free to download a copy of all the information you shared and stored on the Facebook servers. Several users, downloading the copy, found out some info from the deep within.

Facebook collects call & SMS metadata

If you’re a smartphone user, Facebook app is the must-have of all, right? It allows you access the platform without any difficulty. That’s what Facebook wanted and collected some sensitive information.

The mobile app was keeping a record of phone calls and SMS transmissions from your device. The logged information includes the start time of each call, the duration, the contacts’ names etc. However, the app didn’t collect information about unknown numbers (not saved in the address book).

How to download the data

In order to verify the fact by yourself, you need to download the zip file from Facebook. Note that depending on your usage, the file may be very large (several gigabytes or more). That’s why make sure to download it in free time.

“Delete” vs “Deactivate”

Deleting and deactivating your Facebook account are completely different things. First of all, deactivating Facebook means that your account is currently disabled from being accessed. Whatever Cambridge Analytica acquired wasn’t illegal. In fact, it’s the Facebook’s “Terms and Conditions” that allows such data sharing with 3^rd-party companies. The problem with Cambridge Analytica was the platform and API of Facebook. When users logged into the quiz app, they gave up information to the company, willingly or unwillingly. Unless you decide to delete your Facebook account, you need to follow measures so that no 3^rd-party gets their hands on your private info.

How to disable info sharing

You may not know, but Facebook already has a method that will disable the information sharing. This way, your data can be secured.

• Go to Facebook.
• Go to “Settings”.

• From the left panel, click “Apps”.

• Scroll down until you find out the options like the screenshot.

Here, “Apps, Websites and Plugins” settings is in charge whether your account can be used to login into any 3^rd-party apps (games, websites etc.). If you don’t use them, you can choose to turn them off. Click on it and select “Disable Platform”. Be careful, as you won’t be able to log into lots of services.

A better solution is to manage what data the 3^rd-parties can get from your account. Under “Apps Other Use”, click “Edit”.

Here is the list of all the information that a 3^rd-party app connected to your account can collect. Here are the defaults. However, you’re free to uncheck all of them. When complete, click “Save”.

• Go to Rules >> Create Rule…
• In the “Create Rule” dialogue box, select the conditions – check “From …” and “Display in the New Item Alert window”.
• Click “OK”.
• Now, from the “Success” box, check “Run this rule now on messages already in the current folder” >> hit “OK”.

5. Sharing your Facebook Photos

If you’re a Facebook freak, you’re allowed to share your Facebook photos with the email. Outlook makes it really easy for you. All you have to do is to connect your account to your Facebook account.

• Go to Options >> Mail Attachment options >> Storage Accounts.
