<p>Hi, how are you? This time we&#8217;ll talk a little bit about Android. It is well known that this is the most used mobile operating system worldwide. Similarly, a smartphone is used for multiple daily tasks. One of them is file management. In fact, the exchange of information through the Internet or social networks is a very common activity. Consequently, many users download and send files in different formats. Sometimes, these files are compressed. On a computer, handling these files is not a major problem. However, perhaps you didn&#8217;t know that in Android it is possible to manage them natively. For that reason, I show you how to compress and decompress files in Android.</p>

<h2> Compress files in Android. </h2>

<p>A great advantage provided by the operating system is that it is possible to manage compressed files natively. In other words, there is no need to download third-party tools. However, it is good to clarify that if the management of compressed files will be frequent, then it is advisable to download special tools. If not, then Android provides everything needed to work with compressed files. Well, to compress files we will use the File Manager application. This app is present in most Android devices. Please note that this app can be different on computers with a custom interface. This happens on<a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" Samsung (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/phones/" target="_blank"> Samsung</a> devices, the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="EMUI (opens in a new tab)" href="https://consumer.huawei.com/latin-en/" target="_blank">EMUI</a> layer or the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="MIUI (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.miui.com/" target="_blank">MIUI </a>interface. However, the functionality is almost the same.</p>

<p>To compress the files, just launch the File Manager application. Once there, select the files with a long touch.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_19-56-49-485x1024.jpg" alt="Select the files to be compressed." class="wp-image-17140" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_19-56-49-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_19-56-49-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_19-56-49-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_19-56-49.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption> Select the files to be compressed. </figcaption></figure>

<p>Then, click on the menu and select the option <strong>Compress</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-00-05-485x1024.jpg" alt="Compresses the selected files." class="wp-image-17141" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-00-05-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-00-05-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-00-05-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-00-05.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption>Compresses the selected files.</figcaption></figure>

<p>The wizard will assign a default name related to the files. However, you can choose any name. In addition, the file will be saved in ZIP format.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-01-16-485x1024.jpg" alt="Files finally compressed." class="wp-image-17143" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-01-16-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-01-16-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-01-16-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-01-16.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption>Files finally compressed.</figcaption></figure>

<p>At the end of the process, you&#8217;ll see the zip file. The only drawback of this method is that all files must be in the same folder.</p>

<h2>Decompressing files on Android.</h2>

<p>To decompress the files, the process is as simple as the previous one. The first thing you have to do is open the File Manager application, and select the compressed file. Immediately a menu will be displayed with the file options. It is possible to unzip the file in the same location or in another folder. In this case, we&#8217;re going to decompress the file in a different location.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-15-12-485x1024.jpg" alt="Decompress the files in another location" class="wp-image-17145" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-15-12-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-15-12-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-15-12-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-15-12.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption>Decompress the files in another location</figcaption></figure>

<p>Then the file explorer will show the folders present in the system. Just choose one, and click on Extract.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-18-45-485x1024.jpg" alt="Extract the files to the selected folder." class="wp-image-17147" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-18-45-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-18-45-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-18-45-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-18-45.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption>Extract the files to the selected folder.</figcaption></figure>

<p>After the decompression is completed, a folder will be created with the files in the selected location. Please enter it to see the unzipped files.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="485" height="1024" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-21-07-485x1024.jpg" alt="Decompressed files." class="wp-image-17149" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-21-07-485x1024.jpg 485w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-21-07-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-21-07-199x420.jpg 199w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/photo_2019-12-26_20-21-07.jpg 606w" sizes="(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px" /><figcaption>Decompressed files.</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Conclusion</h2>

<p>As has been noted, the procedure for compress and decompress files on Android is very simple. However, as we warn, if you are going to work with a lot of compressed files, then it is advisable to download third-party tools. Some of the most efficient ones are <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rarlab.rar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="RAR (opens in a new tab)">RAR</a>, <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.winzip.android" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="WinZip (opens in a new tab)">WinZip</a>, and <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="7Zipper (opens in a new tab)" href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.joa.zipperplus7" target="_blank">7Zipper</a>. All right, that&#8217;s it for now.
