Microsoft Team suffered a fall this week in Europe. However, the failures occurred only in the morning hours. The services of the tool were restored normally during the course of the day. Microsoft Teams is Microsoft’s document sharing, chat, and video collaboration tool. The crash coincided with the access of thousands of workers to the service. Users were trying to work remotely from their homes. As an alternative in the midst of the current Coronavirus pandemic.

The COVID-19 forced thousands of users around the world to use Team. Or similar teleworking tools. Thanks to this the tool had a sudden increase of users. This was probably the reason for the difficulties. The European users who used Team on March 16th reported the inconvenience. The tool presented problems with file sharing. Also, chats stopped working. And in some cases, the Team showed an error screen without any further information.

Subsequently, Microsoft expressed awareness of the situation. Through Teams’ Twitter account they claimed to be aware of the problems and were investigating them. Also, the company asked for “patience”, until a solution could be found.

We’re investigating messaging-related functionality problems within Microsoft Teams. Please refer to TM206544 in your admin center for further details.
@MSFT365Status

Microsoft Teams suffered a fall in Europe: Chaos at COVID-19

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies sent their employees to work at home. As a result, most communicate using services such as Microsoft Teams. Even schools use the tool to provide distance education. Correspondingly, Microsoft announced that it would grant free subscription to Team for 6 months. The company took this measure to help with the employment crisis in the face of COVID-19.

The service is experiencing the second problem of the year. Previously, Microsoft Teams suffered a fall last month. Because Microsoft forgot to renew an SSL key security certificate. Microsoft finally solved the problem after three hours of the crash. Although Team has been offering Teleworking tools for years. This collapse shows that there are details to be solved. We are confident that the difficulties have been definitively solved. So that many companies and schools continue to use this alternative to the COVID-19.

Windows Build 2020 canceled due to COVID-19. Microsoft decided to cancel the developer conference in Seattle. The event will be on May 19 and 21. However, the advance of the pandemic led the company to develop the meeting virtually.

“The security of our community is a top priority”
Microsoft Company

“The security of our community is a top priority. In light of the health security recommendations for the state of Washington, we will be converting our annual Microsoft Build for Developers event into a digital event, rather than a face-to-face event. We look forward to leveraging this new virtual format to learn, connect and code together,” a company spokesperson told ZDNet.

Other events canceled due to COVID-19

This suspension joins others in the technology world. The first event to be canceled was the Mobile World Congress. Then, the annual Facebook F8 Developer Conference continued. As well as the Video Game Developers Conference (GDC). And the popular E3 videogame fair.

For its part, Google canceled its event for developers. The Google I/O conference was to be held on May 12 and 14. At its headquarters in Mountain View. Other suspensions may be announced in the coming days. Most companies are choosing to use streaming to avoid crowding. This prevents the spread of the virus.

Consequently, technology companies like Twitter are urging their employees to work from home. Several companies use this precautionary measure. In fact, Microsoft wanted to help companies by giving 6 free months of Team. In the case of Italy, the country most affected by the Coronavirus after China, there is an almost absolute state of quarantine. Apple has closed all its premises there, following official guidelines.

It is important to mention that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the death of more than 4,000 people in the world. Most of them in mainland China. In the Asian country, 3,176 people died. Italy and Iran follow in numbers. The latter are the three countries most affected by the disease. In total, since the outbreak of the virus at the end of December, more than 134 300 people have been contaminated in 121 countries and territories. We continue to hope that this crisis will not cause more havoc.

Microsoft revealed the first known cases of its employees affected by COVID-19. In this way, it joins other technology giants. Such as Amazon.com and Facebook, which revealed that there are cases of the disease in their ranks.

On Wednesday of this week, the WHO issued a statement. In the statement, it said that the virus had become a pandemic. According to the organization, as of March 11, 118,000 cases had been reported. These in 114 countries, as well as the death of 4,291 people.

Two Microsoft employees affected by COVID-19

Microsoft reported two employees, one working at its main campus in Redmond, Washington. As well as a remote LinkedIn worker, they contracted COVID-19. Both are in quarantine, a company representative said.

“We are working closely with local public health authorities to provide the necessary support for our colleagues and their co-workers,” a Microsoft spokesman said in a statement.

Detection of those infected by COVID-19

One of the two employees worked at Microsoft’s main campus. He came into close contact with a small number of fellow staff members. They were notified of the situation to prevent them. The company has also determined that the second employee had no contact with people. Neither at Microsoft nor in its LinkedIn unit. The company had already asked its employees to work from home until March 25. This orientation remains unchanged according to the new cases of affected people.

On the other hand, Google indicated to its Bay Area employees that they can work from home due to the virus. The voluntary policy applies to the headquarters in Mountain View, California. As well as the campuses in Sunnyvale and San Francisco.

Last week, Google canceled its flagship conference. An event in May called I/O, which brings together thousands of people from around the world who partner with or create applications and websites for Google’s digital services. All this as a preventive measure in the face of the considered COVID-19 pandemic. Microsoft also wants to help with the ravages of the disease. For this reason, <a href="https://windowsmen.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=931&action=edit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="it offers 6 months free in its Team teleworking tool.
