Hello! The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of daily life. Indeed, we have made an accelerated transition to the digital world. Therefore, we are spending more and more time on the computer. So, we use it for work, study, and leisure. Therefore, we are likely to share much of our life data with the computer. Consequently, it is advisable to maintain privacy in the different aspects of our life. For this reason, Firefox has been working on a container concept. This tool allows you to manage different profiles in the browser. Read on to find out what are Firefox Multi-Account containers.

What are Firefox Multi-Account containers

It is a tool that will allow you to separate work, shopping and personal navigation. Plus, without having to delete history, log in and out or use another browser. Specifically, the containers are based on tabs. However, they behave differently from normal tabs. In effect, the visited web pages will have access to a separate area of the browser storage. Therefore, browsing preferences will not be transferred to another container tab. In short, each container will maintain its settings independently from the others.

We have already established that when we surf the Internet, we leave a trail. This happens thanks to cookies and trackers. We certainly cannot do without cookies. Indeed, we would not be able to log in. But if we use a container, then we would limit the tracking to the information in it. On the other hand, it is possible to log in to several accounts at the same time. For example, we could use our work Gmail account and our personal Gmail account in each container. It also offers greater protection in case of a cyberattack. For example, a link will only affect one container. It also allows you to assign a web page to a specific container so that it will always open there. Finally, it allows differentiating between work and personal containers. So, it is possible to open one or the other depending on where you are.

How to install multi-account containers in Firefox

The first thing you need to do is to open Mozilla Firefox. Next, let’s add the extension. With this in mind, please visit this link. You will immediately see a screen like the following one. Please click on Add to Firefox.

Adding the Firefox Multi-Account Containers Add-on

Just grant the appropriate permissions, and wait a few moments while the add-on is added.

How Firefox multi-account containers work.

To start using this tool, just click on the icon in the upper-right corner.

Starting the Firefox multi-container configuration.

After clicking on Get Started, a wizard will show us the most important features. In addition, we will be able to synchronize the containers. We will not use this option for the moment. Therefore, just click Not now. Therefore, we are now ready to start using the containers. Consequently, we will see a list of available containers. To start, click on the “work” container.

A new tab for this container will open immediately. In fact, we notice that it has a different color assigned to it. In addition, the name of the container and its respective icon appear in the address bar.

New tab of the work container in Firefox.

Another way to access a container is to press and hold the + symbol. From there, it is also possible to manage Firefox multi-account containers.

If there is a system that is characterized by the incorporation of new features is Fedora Linux. This is because it wants to be a modern, safe and leading distribution in the collaboration of projects. This philosophy fits quite well with Docker because it is a powerful technology, innovative and above all useful for the administration of servers. So, in this context, this article will help you install Docker in Fedora 34/33.

Docker is a recent technology that allows the deployment of applications and programs in the form of containers. That is, as a kind of virtual machine but contained only for that application. In this blog, we have taught you how to install some applications using this methodology.

Deploy PHPMyAdmin using Docker Compose

Nextcloud using Docker compose

How to deploy Jenkins using docker-compose?

Deploy MongoDB using Docker Compose

This is a great advantage at the time of deployment because we do not care about the dependencies they may have. On the other hand, Docker is very secure and by default isolates network processes and data between host and container. It is widely used among sysadmin and even developers.

Install Docker on Fedora 34/33?

Fedora 34 being so new, uses cgroups v2 by default and this is a problem with Docker because it doesn’t implement it yet. Then, to the steps that are indicated in the official documentation of Docker, it is necessary to add some new steps. Let’s go for it:

First let’s install Docker normally, for it opens a terminal session and executes the following command:

$ sudo dnf config-manager --add--repo https://download.docker.com/linux/fedora/docker-ce.repo

Then, once the Docker repository is configured, we proceed to install it with the following command:

:~$ sudo dnf install docker-ce

1.- Installing Docker on Fedora 34/33

When the installation is complete, Docker will be installed.

You can configure Docker to run without root permissions. To do this, run the following commands:

:~$ sudo groupadd docker :$ sudo groupadd docker
:~$ sudo usermod -aG docker $USER

We will now make some changes to Fedora’s grub to adapt the system to Docker.

Edit the default grub configuration file:

:~$ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

And in the line that starts with “
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX
“, the following parameter must be added:
system.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0
.

Then save the changes and close the file.

To apply the changes you have to update the grub with the following command:

:~$ sudo grub2-mkconfig

And finally, reboot the system.

When you start the system again, you can start and use docker. To start the service, just use the following command:

:~$ sudo systemctl start docker

And if you want it to start along with the system, add this other command:

:~$ sudo systemctl enable docker

And now, you can use Docker on Fedora 34/33.

Conclusion

Fedora is an excellent and innovative system, but sometimes being at the forefront means some inconvenience when installing certain programs. That is why for Docker to work perfectly, you have to take some extra steps. And you have learned that today.

Hello, how are you? In this opportunity, I want to talk about the software containers we can do with them and how to install it on Windows 10. In detail, A software container wraps a piece of software in a complete file system that contains everything you need to run the application. It consists of a complete execution environment, a package of elements that in addition to containing the application itself will contain its dependencies, as well as the libraries and binary and configuration files necessary for the proper functioning of the application.

In other words, it is a very powerful tool that allows us to carry out light virtualization, that is to say, it is not in charge of virtualizing an entire operating system as Hyper V or Virtual Box can do. Indeed, what it does is in charge of virtualizing applications such as a web server, FTP server, or a Linux bash terminal. Moreover, Docker is the application par excellence for running containers. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to install it in windows 10.

Prerequisites

The first thing to know is that this function is not available for all versions of Windows 10. In fact, we have to use Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise. In addition, we need to have virtualization activated in our system, and of course, a processor with the ability to do so. If you don’t know how to activate this feature, I recommend you check out our Hyper V tutorial. Please note, if you do not manually activate the virtualization, the installer will do it automatically for you. Now, let’s get down to work.

Installing Docker in Windows 10

In order to download the most recent version of Docker for Windows, we have to register in Docker Hub.

Docker´s site to download it

Next, we have to run the file, and the installer will start. It is very intuitive and will start downloading from the internet everything you need to run.

Installer downloading packages necessary in order to run the program

We will be asked if we want to use Windows containers instead of Linux ones. Keep in mind that this option can be changed after the installation.

Configuration options

The installer will unpack the files and start the installation.

Unpacking files

The wizard will finish its work, and ask us to log out in order to complete the installation.

Close and logout

Once we enter again, a pop-up window will warn us that the container and Hyper V features are not activated. We can activate it automatically whatever restarts the computer.

Restart to enable Hyper V and Containers features

After this restart, a sale will warn us that docker is not running and if we want to activate it.

Select start to running docker

Configuring and testing Docker for Windows

After starting the server, the Docker logo will appear at the bottom right of the screen.

Docker logo

If we double click on it, we see the Docker options where we will be able to access the options of the software itself, check for updates, or switch from Linux containers to Windows containers easily. In addition, we will also be able to make use of our Docker ID to access the Docker Hub repositories.

Docker menu

In the configuration section, we can modify the options relative to the amount of memory and processor assigned, the network options, and if we want Docker to start with the system.

Docker settings configuration

Once we have configured it, we will be able to check its operation through CMD or Powershell.

docker version

Docker version

If we want a list of all available docker commands, we have to insert the following command.

Lost of commands available for Docker

Running a container in Docker

The classic example in Docker is to run the “Hello World” container. To do this we simply write “docker run hello-world”. As we do not have the previously downloaded image, Docker connects to the Hub to get it and save it on our PC. Then it executes the container on the downloaded image and ends the life cycle of the container.

docker run hello-world

Hello world container running on Docker

Finally we have installed and configured Docker for windows. Now we can start to run our images and containers. In next articles we will continue studying this tool.
