<p>Hello! We use Windows 10 daily. In fact, we develop personal or work tasks. Therefore, the system is filled with unnecessary files and elements. These types of items are considered junk. Since the only thing they do is take up space on the hard disk. Consequently, it is advisable to clean this space. So that it is occupied in relevant tasks. Well, today we will show you how to free up space in <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windows 10.</a></p>

<h2>Clean Windows 10 temp files to free up space.</h2>

<p>These files are generated by the different URLs and websites visited. Therefore, they can be many. In addition, they are made up of elements that allow the fastest loading of the site in question. For example, loading of titles, images or cookies. As you can see, they are useful. However, as time goes by, they grow. So they fill up the disk storage. In addition, some apps installed on the system also generate temporary files. Let&#8217;s see how to eliminate them. First press the Win+R combination to invoke the run box. Once there, please enter the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">%temp%</pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean.png" alt="" class="wp-image-27753" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>

<p>Immediately the file explorer will open showing the temporary files. As the name suggests, these items should be temporal. That is, only be while the browser or app session is active. Therefore, when you close the session, they should disappear. However, this may not happen. Therefore, it is necessary to remove them before they accumulate. To do this, select them all and then delete them.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="786" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-1024x786.png" alt="Deleting temporary files in Windows 10" class="wp-image-27754" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-1024x786.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-300x230.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-768x589.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-696x534.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2-1068x819.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean2.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Deleting temporary files in Windows 10</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Cleaning the Prefetch folder in Windows 10.</h2>

<p>This folder seeks to maintain and improve system performance over time. In this folder is hosted the file cache of the most used apps in the system. Therefore, it will improve the access to those apps. But over time, excess data becomes counterproductive. To remove them safely, press the Win+R combination and enter the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">prefetch</pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="399" height="206" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean3.png" alt="" class="wp-image-27756" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean3.png 399w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean3-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px" /></figure>

<p>After granting the corresponding permissions, you will have access to the content. Once again, select them all to remove them.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="790" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-1024x790.png" alt="Removing the contents of the Prefetch folder" class="wp-image-27757" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-1024x790.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-300x231.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-768x592.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-696x537.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4-1068x824.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean4.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Removing the contents of the Prefetch folder</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Clearing the Windows 10 Recycle Bin</h2>

<p>Every time you remove an item from Windows, it does not disappear completely. In fact, it is redirected to the recycle bin. This way they can be recovered at any time. This will continue until it is emptied. But normally the user does not do this. So it is usually full of objects. So let&#8217;s see how to empty it. The first thing you have to do is click on <strong>Manage Recycle Bin</strong>. Then, click on <strong>Empty Recycle Bin.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="787" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-1024x787.png" alt="Emptying the contents of the Recycle bin" class="wp-image-27760" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-1024x787.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-300x231.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-768x590.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-696x535.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5-1068x821.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean5.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Emptying the contents of the Recycle bin</figcaption></figure>

<h2>How to free up space on the PC using the Windows 10 storage sensor.</h2>

<p>This function integrated into the system is very useful. It allows you to free the system from unnecessary files. For example, temporary files, Downloads folder, recycle bin and much more. To go to this function you must go to <strong>Windows Settings</strong>. With this in mind press the Win+I combination. Once there, go to <strong>System.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="798" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-1024x798.png" alt="Go to System." class="wp-image-27762" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-1024x798.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-300x234.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-768x599.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-696x543.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6-1068x833.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean6.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Go to System.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Once there, you must click on <strong>Storage. </strong>Then, verify that the storage sensor is activated. Then click on <strong>Temporary Files.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="787" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-1024x787.png" alt="Using the Windows 10 storage sensor." class="wp-image-27764" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-1024x787.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-300x231.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-768x590.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-696x535.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7-1068x821.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean7.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Using the Windows 10 storage sensor.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Then the wizard will show the files ready to be deleted. Just select a group and finally click on <strong>Remove Files.</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="787" src="//1081754738.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-1024x787.png" alt="Removing unnecessary files" class="wp-image-27765" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-1024x787.png 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-300x231.png 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-768x590.png 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-696x535.png 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8-1068x821.png 1068w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/clean8.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Removing unnecessary files</figcaption></figure>

<p>Hi, how are you? Storage space is a concern among Windows 10 users. Even though we have a large storage device, it&#8217;s likely that it will end up getting full. This is going to be a big problem. Under those circumstances, you can try to uninstall applications, run the Windows cleanup function or delete unnecessary data. However, there are programs that can help us free up unnecessary data. For that reason, let&#8217;s see how to use DupeKill to delete duplicate files in Windows 10.</p>

<h2>How to free up disk space with DupeKill</h2>

<p>As mentioned above, this free application allows you to search for duplicate files on your computer. Consequently, it is possible to delete them quickly. The utility of this tool is that it allows you to discover that there are duplicate files on the hard disk. In this way, it is possible to free up storage space. In the first place, please go to the project page to <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="download (opens in a new tab)" href="https://cresstone.com/apps/DupeKill/#appInfo" target="_blank">download</a> the latest version.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://windowsmen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/dupe.jpg" alt="Download the latest version of DupeKill." class="wp-image-148"/><figcaption>Download the latest version of DupeKill.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Please note that the file comes in a compressed format, so once downloaded you will have to decompress it. With this intention, you can use some program like 7zip or WinRar. On the other hand, the program is portable. Consequently, when running it for the first time, it asks where to save the configuration.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://windowsmen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/dupe2.jpg" alt="Location of the settings" class="wp-image-149"/><figcaption>Location of the settings.</figcaption></figure>

<p>In the configuration window, two saving options are displayed. First, you can save the settings in the application directory. This is for easy handling of the program. Second, you can save it to the profile directory. Please note that you must remember the configuration directory. Since there is no uninstaller, you can delete the program by deleting this folder.</p>

<h2>Launching DupeKill</h2>

<p>After installing the program, it will be launched immediately. In the Look in section, you can include the drive, directory or folder where you will look for the files. It is highly recommended to select the option to include subfolders in the search. Once the parameters are set, press the Scan button to start the search. The search time will depend on the selected unit and the number of files present.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://windowsmen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/dupe3.jpg" alt="DupeKill initial screen" class="wp-image-151"/><figcaption>DupeKill initial screen</figcaption></figure>

<p>Once the search is complete, the list of duplicate files is displayed. In addition, the file properties are displayed. Likewise, we see size, name, path, creation and modification date. Once the search is complete, the list of duplicate files is displayed. In addition, the file properties are displayed. Likewise, we see size, name, path, creation and modification date. </p>

<p>But the most interesting option is the one related to the recommended actions for the files. You can keep or delete them, and the program also shows the number of duplicate files. Finally, by double-clicking on the file, we can execute it, open its folder, copy the path, delete it, move it or save it.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://windowsmen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/dupe4.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-153"/><figcaption>Additional actions in DupeKill</figcaption></figure>

<h2>Enabling advanced search.</h2>

<p>The program has an interesting advanced search function. To enable it, just click on the search bar. Immediately a window will be displayed, where it is possible to enter different search criteria, such as include and exclude folders, limit the size or set a date range. It is also possible to select the type of file to be searched. Consequently, this tool makes the search more specific. </p>

<p>Ultimately we have seen how to use DupeKill to delete duplicate files in Windows 10. This way it is possible to increase the storage space on hard disks. In my case, I gained more than 8GB of storage. And best of all, I didn&#8217;t know I had such an amount of duplicate files. Well, that&#8217;s all for now, before I say goodbye I invite you to check our post about <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="PowerToys (opens in a new tab)" href="https://windowsmen.com/install-the-powertoys-in-windows-10/" target="_blank">PowerToys </a>in Windows 10. <p>Hi. How are you? Today we are going to talk about maintenance in Windows 10. It is well known that, as any system is used, a series of residual files are generated that occupy space on the hard drive. Also, the accumulation of these files usually slows down the operation of Windows 10. Many times, these are temporary files that accumulate in the system memory. In addition, there are also residual files of updates that accumulate. Besides, with the passage of time, the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="cache memory (opens in a new tab)" href="https://searchstorage.techtarget.com/definition/cache-memory" target="_blank">cache memory</a> within the system also increases in size. Under those circumstances, these useless files accumulate inside the system causing malfunction. For that reason, let&#8217;s see how to clean up Windows 10 of junk files.</p>

<h2>Using the Disk Cleaner tool</h2>

<p>Windows 10 is a system that aims to provide users with all the necessary tools to have an optimal system. One of these tools is called Disk Cleaner. <h2>Deleting browser data.</h2>

<p>It is well known that as you browse the Internet, you generate temporary files, cookies, images, and cache memory. In addition to the browsing history. All these data accumulate in the system unnecessarily. Now let&#8217;s see how to delete all that data in Google Chrome. A similar procedure can be used in the Microsoft Edge beta channel, as this is based on Chromium. Moreover, this mechanism is done from the browser. With this intention, run Google Chrome and locate the 3 dots in the upper right corner. This will open the Google Chrome menu. Once there, navigate to the advanced section, then select Clear browsing data.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="728" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-1024x728.jpg" alt="Clear browsing data" class="wp-image-14961" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14.jpg 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-768x546.jpg 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-696x495.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk14-591x420.jpg 591w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Clear browsing data</figcaption></figure>

<p>In the next window, you can delete the history, cookies, cached images and other files. In addition, you can set the time range to be deleted.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="728" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-1024x728.jpg" alt="Clearing navigation data by time range " class="wp-image-14964" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1.jpg 1024w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-768x546.jpg 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-696x495.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk15-1-591x420.jpg 591w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Clearing navigation data by time range </figcaption></figure>

<h2>Deactivates the hibernation cache.</h2>

<p>Microsoft has incorporated a function related to the cache memory. This is called a hibernation cache. To clarify, it is an accumulation of data on the applications and files that were open when the PC was turned off so that when it is turned on again they start up more quickly. In like manner, this feature is activated by default, and although its function is to improve the speed of the system. It actually accumulates a large amount of data within the system. So if the equipment is connected to a constant source of power, try deactivating it and using the sleep mode. To the end that, please open a Command Prompt with administrator privileges. With this intention, please typing CMD in the search bar, and selecting <em>Open as administrator. </em></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="760" height="640" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk11.jpg" alt="Running a CMD as administrator" class="wp-image-14954" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk11.jpg 760w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk11-300x253.jpg 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk11-696x586.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk11-499x420.jpg 499w" sizes="(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px" /><figcaption>Running a CMD as administrator</figcaption></figure>

<p>Once the Command Prompt is opened, please enter the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"> powercfg.exe /hibernate off </pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="980" height="512" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12.jpg" alt="Disabling the hibernation cache." class="wp-image-14955" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12.jpg 980w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12-768x401.jpg 768w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk12-804x420.jpg 804w" sizes="(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px" /><figcaption>Disabling the hibernation cache.</figcaption></figure>

<p>If you want to revert the process and enable hibernation cache again, repeat the internal process but add the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted"> powercfg.exe /hibernate on </pre>

<h2>Cleaning the Microsoft store cache</h2>

<p>As the Microsoft Store is used, temporary files are generated that occupy unnecessary space in the system. To delete them, just type <em>WSReset.exe</em> in the search bar.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="672" height="676" src="//1723336065.rsc.cdn77.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk13.jpg" alt="Cleaning Microsft Store cache" class="wp-image-14958" srcset="https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk13.jpg 672w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk13-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk13-298x300.jpg 298w, https://www.osradar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/disk13-418x420.jpg 418w" sizes="(max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px" /><figcaption>Cleaning Microsft Store cache</figcaption></figure>

<p>The wizard will then automatically clear the store cache.</p>
