As we well know CentOS conforms fully with Red Hat’s redistribution policy and aims to have full functional compatibility with the upstream product. CentOS mainly changes packages to remove Red Hat’s branding and artwork.

CentOS 8.2 shares the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.2 so they share many of the new features we talked about recently. Of these, the improvement of performance with specific adjustments for various architectures such as ARM stands out.

Also, new metrics from Microsoft SQL Server where you can quickly monitor its performance.

And many others.

CentOS 8.2 available: Some notes

This is a new maintenance version and not a major version. Therefore, everyone is strongly advised to install or upgrade as soon as possible. This is because important security patches are added in each new version.

Also, the development team modifies certain packages to better integrate them into the distribution such as

• dhcp
• firefox
• fwupdate
• grub2
• httpd
• PackageKit
• pcs
• plymouth

But they have also removed others related to Red Hat’s business model such as:

• redhat-release-*
• subscription-manager-migration
• subscription-manager-migration-data

Also, note that Installing the VirtualBox Addons will produce an error if your version is 6.0.12/5.2.32 or lower.
