Hello! 2021 is almost over, and it’s time for a review. This time, it’s the web browsers’ turn. They are certainly essential for internet browsing. However, their performance can be greatly improved through extensions. Consequently, we will see The best extensions for web browsers in 2021. The selection includes extensions for Chrome and Edge. Consequently, they also work on those based on Chromium such as Opera, Brave or Vivaldi. There are also some for Firefox.

Ninja Cookie

Ah! Cookies, those infamous old acquaintances. You’re probably familiar with and even sick of those cookie warnings. Well, if you want to get rid of them for good, then this extension is for you. Ninja Cookie does its job excellently. And it’s available for all major browsers, including Safari.

Sci-Hub X Now!

This extension is the perfect complement to have access to Sci-Hub. This site presents a revolutionary task. Indeed, it aims to democratize access to millions of scientific articles. These articles are usually limited to those who pay. On the contrary, here you will find them for free.

Sci-Hub X Now! For Chrome.

Sci-Hub X Now! For Firefox.

Sci-Hub X Now! For Edge.

Save image as Type

With this extension for Chrome and Edge you can save images from any website by automatically converting them to JPG, PNG or WebP. In fact, its name is quite obvious, and that is precisely its main function: to save images from the Internet in the format we want, and not only in the one in which they were uploaded.

Quickey Launcher

The favorites are very useful elements for navigation. But you may want to try a different approach. Through Quickey Launcher we will use the quick access through a simple key. If you use it, it will change your navigation style forever. In short, what it does is a launcher for Chrome’s new tab page that lets you launch any website with keyboard shortcuts. We can even assign a website to each letter of your keyboard to launch quickly.

Clipt

Clipt is a cross-platform clipboard that easily connects your computer to your mobile and vice versa. It is an application created by OneLab, the group behind the development of the mobile device manufacturer OnePlus. Consequently, you need the Android app on your mobile and the Chrome extension. Clipt uses Google account and Google Drive storage to work.

UBlacklist

This is a very fascinating extension. In effect, it allows you to block any site from your Google results. Let’s suppose you want to avoid seeing some websites appear in your search results anymore. Then with this extension you can block them in just a couple of clicks.

Chrome

Firefox

Safari

Modern for Wikipedia

This is a very curious extension. In fact, it allows you to redesign Wikipedia to your liking. Basically, what it does is to offer you different color themes, font types of different sizes, and interface styles. Moreover, you can combine them as you like. In short, you can give Wikipedia a more original and modern touch.

LanguageTool

This is one of the best Chrome extensions for students. It is certainly more than just a spell checker. In fact, it corrects all kinds of errors that go beyond spelling, such as grammar and style problems. It is also available in multiple languages.

Install LanguageTool for Chrome

Install LanguageTool for Firefox

Install LanguageTool for Edge

Install LanguageTool for Safari

Noisli

We won’t lie, this is a simple extension for Google Chrome. However, it’s almost addictive to use. What it actually does is to offer a list of relaxing background sounds that can help you keep your concentration. It also integrates a timer. This way, the music starts and stops according to our study schedule. It even has a minimalistic text editor, so you can write without distractions. One of the most curious extensions for web browsers.

Screencastify

This is an excellent tool to capture in video everything that happens on our screen or in a specific Chrome tab. We can even accompany the recording of our comments by microphone. It is also possible to capture a thumbnail image of our webcam and text. Finally, we can also add images that we add to the video once recorded.

Practically our whole life is linked to the internet. From entertainment to leisure and even work. So every time tools are realized to take advantage of all the potential of the Internet and of the navigation in the pc. However, in this same sense, many companies take advantage of the data we share on the Internet. For example, the frequency of navigation or the number of visits made. In other words, almost everything we do and this for many is morally incorrect. So to improve this, Brave a secure web browser for Linux was born. In this post, we will show you how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Mint 19.

Brave wants to revolutionize the way we use the Internet. For the browser, we are not products that companies can manipulate without problems. So Brave integrates many settings that block the crawlers that many sites use to get information about us. On the other hand, Brave is logically open source and the source code is available from Github.

Although it is a pretty secure web browser, it does not settle for just that and Brave is quite fast. In fact, on the project website, they boast that it is much faster than Google Chrome or Safari. So this is very interesting. It is available for Windows and MacOS too.

So, let us install it.

Getting a secure web browser for Linux

Installing Brave on Ubuntu 18.04 or Linux Mint 19 is quite simple. But I have checked for myself that it is worth it. So open a terminal and run the following command:

:~$ curl -s https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/brave-core.asc | sudo apt-key --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/brave-browser-release.gpg add -

1.- Import the GPG key for the repository

With the above command, we have added the GPG key for the Brave repository. This way we will install it without problems.

Then, run the following command to update the bash profile.

:~$ source /etc/os-release

After that, you can add the Brave repository.

:~$ echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/ $UBUNTU_CODENAME main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-release-${UBUNTU_CODENAME}.list

2.- Add the Brave repository

Then, install Brave by running the following command.

:~$ sudo apt install brave-keyring brave-browser

The internet has come a long way. So have internet web browsers. Gone are the days when we had to stare at the screen for eternities before Internet Explorer finally decided to display your web page. Now, we have lightning-fast and much more efficient web browsers that can display HTML5 web pages in less than a few seconds. But, there are so many browsers out there. I could name more than ten browsers off the top of my head. So, which one do you choose? Do you go for the one that looks the prettiest? Do you look for the fastest one? To determine the overall best browser, we’ll discuss four web browsers and the reasons why they made our list.

1. Google Chrome

Google Chrome is by far, the most used web browser in the world. In November 2017, 76.1% of the people using web browsers were on Chrome. The main reason for the popularity of Chrome is its speed and efficiency. The browser can load HTML5 web pages faster than any of its competitors. Other than that, Google Chrome offers a higher amount of customization options. The user can tailor the browser to suit his/her needs. Sorting pages, using multiple tabs, downloading and browsing becomes much easier with Chrome.

2. Firefox

Currently, Firefox is the only browser that can give Chrome a run for its money. A few years ago, the browser was heavily defamed after the security vulnerabilities came to light. Since then, countless updates have more than rectified that error. Firefox offer the most user-friendly interface on the web. The page is a bit slower to load web pages, but it makes up for that with its smooth processing. Firefox uses a bit more data and memory than it should and it slows down the overall speed of the computer somewhat. But, even with its errors, Firefox is the second best browser available.

3. Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge

Until late 2008, Internet Explorer was hosting the majority of the users on the web. But, once more pages started using HTML5, IE’s fame started fading quickly. IE is a fast browser with good firewall capabilities, but it is drastically slower in loading HTML5. That is the reason why IE lost to Chrome. Microsoft then released a new browser called Edge, alongside with Windows 10. This is a completely new browser, looks sleek and professional and covers up the slow processing speed of IE.

4. Opera

Opera is highly known for its compression features. Opera isn’t the fastest or the best looking browser out there but it can sure save you a ton of network data. Opera itself claims that the “Extreme Compression Mode” can save up to 90% usage on most web pages, which is pretty impressive. Opera’s mobile browsers are also one of the most stable ones out there. If you’re running outdated hardware and software, then Opera is the best choice available for you.
